I find it interesting how Sidonia keeps have these military technology revolutions which makes their previous armed forces look like a joke, yet as they do the Gauna become even more stupidly powerful in proportion to them.

Makes you wonder whether the Gauna are also evolving, or they were always this strong and just enough force to match them.

It seems pretty clear that the Gauna are hivemind, and given that they also absorb information (theorized genetic memory in the anime), it seems plausible that they are only keeping up purely because they are basically stealing the technology from humans.
