I remember how nervous I was when I learned how to drive a car. Piloting a huge machine fighting creatures just as huge, which could possibly kill me? I'd be even worse than Shinji and let Rei do it, no matter how crippled she was.

Lately I'm having troubles watching other movies. I recently watched A Fistful of Dollars with a couple friends and while we had our laughs and it certainly was dumb fun I cannot abandon the thought that authors who write these sort of stories always write them as some sort of wish fullfilment. Don't get me wrong, I didn't complain throughout the movie. I never even mentioned it. I still enjoyed it, but I couldn't get it off my mind.

Every story has characters which originate from your own thoughts obviously, since you cannot write a character which you cannot think of and thus many fall into the category that they write characters they'd like to be, for example Kirito from SAO. While not 100% of the time, but still for the most part, Anno wrote Shinji not how he wanted to be, but how he actually is, which is what made Eva so unique and interesting for me.
Very few shows/moves/etc. do this and lately I'm having trouble watching shows with characters that never ever doubt themselves and are straight up badass.
Am I just being autistic or do you guys feel similar from time to time?
