There is not a single protagonists that has suffered as much as Killy from BLAME!.

>has lived so fucking long he has to actually delete personal memories that don't have anything to do with his mission
>can spends centuries completely alone during
>has to fucking WALK the entire distance of the fucking solar system
>pretty much everything wants to kill him
>gets blown to pieces, maimed, limbs cut off, and skin burned, flayed and torn off on a fucking regular basis
>finally manages to find a waifu
>has to kill her
>manages to find the kid he needs at the end
>has to walk the whole fucking way back and pray to the silicon lords that this little shit doesn't get killed

Guts has fucking nothing on Killy.
>>
Sounds like a Gary Stu.
>>>/sao/

Not really, he maintains the same power level throughout the manga, and arguably becomes weaker at the end.

If anything Guts is a Gary Stu seeing as how he repeatedly gets new weapons and magic fucking armor.

Yeah, because, at that point, the Safeguard was going all out. She was more powerful, but, sadly, so were her foes. Plus, she was trying to protect Cibo. All being equal, in a straight 1-1 fight,Sanakan would've won.

Sanakan wasn't protecting Cibo from safeguards, those were Silicon Lifeforms or whatever they were called.

The medieval knight looking things with the shields that stopped GBE were silicon lifeforms. The big weird enemy at the end was a safeguard tho i think

Sounds like EYE: Divine Cybermancy.

I want to read Blame! but last I checked the online scans were all hideously awful. Has this changed?

I really wish Sidonia were better. Nihei's beautiful clean art style really is done a huge disservice by the cookie-cutter tropes.
>>
One thing I never got where the giants near the beginning who are nearly twice Killy's size, the ones calling him a kid I mean
>>
>>121644744
There's a complete torrent on BBT that's perfectly readable. Dunno where you got the idea they were bad, all the scans I've seen are the ones translated from the French scans (Band of the Hawk? It's been a while).
>>
>>121644788
They were just humans without the net genes. They had just evolved/mutated to be large, and they thought he was a kid because of his height.

You have to remember the "City" they in is like half the size of the entire solar system. So you have pockets of life scattered that are completely isolated from each other for incredibly long lengths of time.

Same reason that one race of humans they found were so short.

>>
>>121644404
He spends 3000 years fighting exterminator class safeguards, giant monsters, Sanakan, psychic cyborgs, Silicon monsters then gets shot by a nobody near the end of the journey I feel bad for him.
>>
I really liked the manga, but I don't think Killy suffered as much as some other characters if you compare the BLAME! universe to a few others that contain suffering. Pretty much everyone in the manga is in a constant state of suffering, so I doubt Killy even thinks his suffering is actual suffering, at least until he has to kill that woman. Because up to that point everything was routine, walking all that distance, going up for as long as he can remember, the guy basically had no emotions since he had to delete those.
Though Guts is a fucking pussy and all the suffering was because of his own stupidity at doing anything.
>>
>>121646656

Scans are fine. Don't try to read online - the art style doesn't deal well with compression.

Pretty much this. There are other iterations of the GBE, but the one he has has no equal in the entire BLAME! universe. Worse yet, it's a weapon he found at some point in his travels, and was not something presented to him.

Which is really scary, considering that all GBEs that we know of otherwise, originate from the NetSphere. This either means someone illegally downloaded the data and then managed to survive a safeguard wrath, or the fucking City through it's crazy physics, space-time mechanics, and expansion, managed to naturally produce one that just happened to end up being between Killy and his goal.

Either way, it really is the strongest weapon in all existence, within the BLAME! setting.

The beauty of the GBE, at least Killy's, has to be the fact that it's such a simple design for something so utterly broken.

>>121654954

There's no such thing as anti-gravity reactors sprinkled around the city. It's a dyson sphere the size of a solar system with interconnecting structures and other mass stored here and there. It effectively has enough mass to generate it's own natural 1G gravity.

The only thing that exists in the city, however, is the Gravity Furnace, which has been speculated as being one of the core sources of the vast amount of energies required to facilitate the pure chaotic and rampant growth of The City. Especially given that it's effectively able to create multi-dimensional realities, where even scarier the fact that--there exists another City and equally large BLAME! verse.

The arc involving the gravity furnace is the closest we've gotten to a confirmation that the event that causes The City and it's existence + expansion is something that affects more than one reality. And to be specific, we're ignoring the base reality/net reality terminology used by safeguards who exists within the netsphere when they talk to Sanakan on the final communication, letting her know that if she dies this time around; there's no recovery.

>>
>>121656278

It's implied that a total of three pre-safeguards were sent out into The City to find someone who had Net Terminal Genes.

Given that the city expanded with reckless abandon and the builders never stopped, it's safe to assume that the other two pre-safeguard agents were unsuccessful in finding someone with Net Terminal Genes.

The focus instead is on Killy's story, and arguably much of his success can be attributed to the fact that he has a GBE.

In NOiSE, the expansion had reached the moon. In BLAME! one of the chapters has Killy enter a cavernous space, where a silicon creature states the space is some few ten thousand kilometers in diameter. People did a look up of planetary bodies and found that Jupiter's diameter is the closest matching of the number, plus minus a few hundred kilometers.

Thereby, it's speculated that the room contained Jupiter at one point. Plus it's also noted said space contained the materials for a large chunk of The City's growth during a particular expansion period, because the silicon creature in question has been in observation for a millennia or more.

>>
>>121656997

There's speculation.

From what I've read, I'm guessing he's a human who was converted into an autonomous prototype safeguard by the Authority as a backup plan in case things went south and they lost control (which they did). The one authority guy says he's part of a "pre-safeguard system" yet we know that he has safeguard functions like the ability to scan for net genes.

My headcanon is that he was a kid who was abducted and turned into a safeguard once silicon life started showing up.
>>
>>121657124
"proto-safeguard" just means that they were created before the system of safeguards were set up. As for why people think Sanakan is one, it's before she knows Killy before their first encounter in the manga, so it's possible that they worked together in the past.
>>
>>121657124
>Why pre, and if Sanakan was supposed to be one of those 2 peers, what happened to her that changed her around or whatever?

Sanakan wasn't one of his peers. She was just a high ranking safeguard that the Authority finally got control over later on in the manga.

We don't know anything concrete about Killy's peers from the flashback. They probably died.

Nice to see a Blame thread, I absolutely loved this manga. The atmosphere and designs have no rival. I also loved the strange way of conveying its story through minimal dialog or no dialog at all.
>>
>>121660212

Unlikely. The Net Sphere AND the safeguard system in place to protect it, all know of Killy. The Net Sphere needs him, the corrupted Safe Guard system deems him a threat.

Sanakan knowing of Killy before her first introduction, isn't a reliable enough source, to say that she's related to the other two figures in his backup memory during reconstruction post level 9 safeguard attack.

Also, there's two variations of Sanakan which makes the entire situation equivalent of an unreliable narrator. Firstly, is the Sanakan who wanted to kill everybody, including Killy. The second is the case where Sanakan protected Cibo and even Killy, regardless of the status of the Net Terminal embyro. Similar goals, certainly; but she could have easily killed Killy and taken Cibo somewhere safe. She doesn't.

Of course, this is all somewhat unrelated technically, but I'm relating it on the basis that a single bit of data isn't sufficient to draw such a conclusion. Either it needs to be explicitly stated or there needs to be enough grounds for an inference, anything less isn't acceptable; not in BLAME!-verse.

That universe is too god damn big for half-assed guesses.
>>
>>121660090

No. That, anon, is an Exterminator; First Class. Written exactly like that.

It's incredibly powerful, but definitely nowhere close to a level 9.

The Safeguard the other anon is talking about, is the one that shows up in the 2nd to last chapter. The only similarities are that the safeguard symbol is very easy to spot. It's an upside down spaced cross.

I think he figured it wouldn't take much to blow a hole in a mere human's head.

>>
>>121660928

>signed onto being a safeguard

No, that's not right. She didn't have much of a choice. They basically told her that they were going to memory wipe and train her to become an agent. But that she'd at least have a choice before that happened on whether she wanted to go back to being a head on a pike outside or become something better.

It was inevitable for her to become Safeguard anyway, just that the notion of choice was presented. All that said, Killy's memories of the three seems to be after a considerable amount of time compared to where The City was with respect to Earth & Moon for Musubi's timeline.
>>
>>121653820
No.
>>
>>121660952

Because producing a GBE that could be a threat to Killy is kind of a problem. Killy in those chapters, was basically at the edge of the Dyson structure. The conversion towers and the hardware of the megastructure in those regions probably wasn't sufficient in allowing for the creation of a GBE that would be a threat to Killy. Plus, if there's one thing that's glaringly obvious in BLAME!-verse, size has no bearing on power.

That teeny little gun, blew a hole through Killy's head. The only issue here is that the safeguard assumed that doing so would be enough to stop Killy. Plus because Killy is an entity that rejected Safeguard registration, THOUGH they know of him; they have none of his records and therefore only know of his capabilities through the destruction he leaves behind and the rare points where the safeguard he meets/governing agency he agents he comes across.

Why was Killy the one immortalized in the history of Silicon Life? Doesn't Sanakan kill a fuckload more of them when she tries to get Cibo back?
>>
>>121661322
Well, Killy did kill their Messiah or whatever.
>>
>>121661236

The issue with that is two part.

1. You'd have to come up with a procedural system for creation of life in BLAME!-verse with a myriad of complex powers that you'd have to defend yourself from.

2. A weapon system that would allow you to defend yourself from these creatures. Most of the weapons in BLAME!-verse are within the scope of a general use. There's machine guns, rocket launchers, pistols; etc. The issue, again, arises with the GBE. If you have a weapon system, at some point the GBE needs to exist. If the GBE exists, it needs a use. If it has a use, you now have to program procedural deformation of materials into the engine for the entire game.

This creates the other issue, the 70km holes the LOWEST setting leaves behind. Level 2 and 3, leave much larger, much longer, far more destructive holes.

Level 4 is fucking broken beyond belief.

LEVEL 4 EXTRA is you literally having a supernova blow-torch as a penis waving it all around like a giddy little school kid. It's not that it cannot be done, but that your computer would probably crash trying to compute all the physics and deformation/explosion/damage that would result of you having a shit eating grin with a LEVEL 4 EXTRA GBE in hand.

That said, I still want it to happen.

>>121661322

Silicon Life have been around since the events of NOiSE. Killy came some time after NOiSE, but has been around for at least one to two thousand years before Sanakan ever touched foot in base reality.

He's got a MUCH MUCH bigger track record of fighting with Silicon life, and most of it, likely without having a GBE. After he got one, he became The Calamity.
>>
I don't understand why Killy was still being hunted at the edge of the city. The directive given to the safeguards was to destroy Cibo - she was destroyed.

The Safeguard units at the edge of the city seemed to be fully sentient just as Killy or Dhomochevsky. Why did they continue to hunt him down?

And why wasn't killy's lost leg regenerating?
>>
>>121661548

Because of the idea that the embryo may contain information, in it's genes, about the level 9 safeguard. Since net terminal genes are well, GENES, which can interface with the core of the Net Sphere that even those within the net sphere can no longer access; same way.

Killy's lost leg wasn't regenerating, because he was tired as fuck. Completely drained of almost all but his reserve energy stored inside. It's like being pushed to your physical limits, then being pushed 10x even further than that, and then being forced a 100x even further than that.

The dude was utterly exhausted, he couldn't regenerate.

Killy is asked once about the gun and he says he doesn't know anything about it, but that's because he's been erasing his memories due to running out of space in his head. He is an agent of the Authority, it makes perfect sense for the gun to have been given to him way back when he started and the Authority could make stuff at will. He erased the memories of that event but left the prime directive of "Not Losing the Gun" which is why he always makes it a point to retrieve it. I don't know where you got that he picked it up somewhere.
