Dude, all of the girls in the originals look like they came straight from an old Key VN with their ridiculously uguu faces. I mean SHIT look at how far apart their huge eyes are in most scenes and in most promo art. Nobody can defend this garbage (although the Yuki-chan artstyle is boring soft crap so it ain't much better either).

Well, the designs are based off the manga spin-off, and they're pretty close to that.
So comparing them to the Kyoani Haruhi show isn't that correct, when the source is different already.

That said Kyon and Haruhi are terrible.
The other aren't that bad, given that you're not comparing them to LN/Kyoani designs, as unrelated thing.
Because this is pretty much unrelated, not your S3 never, deal with it.

The only one whose design feels off is Kyon's to be honest.

Every other character seems like a nice cross between the manga designs and the original designs by the creator.

I don't see why the KyoAni designs get so much praise, they hardly look any different from any other KyoAni crap and compared to all the other versions, including the LN designs, they always looked incredibly bland.

Again, Kyon's the only one here I think who looks a little generic and unrecognizable here, but I'd rather wait and see his character in action in the series with the original VA, because I think what made Kyon look distinct from the other characters in the KyoAni series was mostly his bored sleepy eyed look.
