Never watched Origins, but from what you posted I think the cities look like soulless shit (even if the gyms look a little better). I say that as someone who played the originals at the height of their popularity. You know, the versions with a whopping four colors (or green and darker green if you had a brick). There is such a thing as trying to adapt the source material too closely.

Honestly, I would have preferred a manga adaptation anyway.

Mega Evolution defeated M2, and you need to have high friendship levels with your pokemon in order to trigger it unless you're Rayquaza who can just do it whenever it likes.
Also incidentally the only pokemon smart enough to eat its mega stone so it frees up a slot to hold items.
