VLC is notorious for having buggy built-in codecs and plugins. This is especially a problem with fansubbed encodes because the community is always pushing for the latest and most efficient codecs, renderers, etc.

This isn't based on old information, is it? Because the latest VLC in Fedora's repos is 2.2.0 and it plays just as good as MPC ever did.
