Space Dandy as a big hit in the west, but how well did it do in Japan. Did it sell well?
It didn't even do that well in America. The ratings came crashing down at some point.
And no, the series was a huge flop in Japan. Both seasons averaged about a thousand copies, which is extremely poor.
>in the west
What are you even talking about?
Why don't you just say North America instead of ''west''?
Wouldn't that depend on how much of that profit actually goes back to the Japanese production company? Unless Toonami is willing to fund an anime of its own, like with Big O season 2, I can't really see how it'd change anything.
Isn't Toonami a pay channel? And their free stream runs ads so I would guess that yes, ratings are pretty important because people watching it on the pay channel are people that pay and people watching it on the stream indirectly bring ad revenue. So views do bring them money either way. I'd guess that for shows that air there the DVD sales are secondary (though not unimportant).
Pretty sure Toonami did fund Space Dandy
While I am not sure that anybody here has any valuable insight in the monetization of internationally produced and distributed animation works, I am pretty sure the Jews in power were not satisfied enough with the returns to release more shekels for a movie that was in the options for a while.
>expecting a Watanabe show to have more than 2 seasons
This. People seem to side step this for some reason, but Space Dandy originally started airing on Toonami first and then japan. It was funded by Toonami and was meant for a western Audience and doubly so since the guy behind it is a massive westaboo. I think this is part of the reason it did so bad in japan compared to the west, and thats before you take into account script translations which meant alot of the jokes just plain didn't make sense in japanese.
Because i live in Australia and fucking everybody loves dandy and its popular as hell with the anime crowd.
So before you go shitting over everything like the walking, personification of an asshole that you are who doesn't base his facts on anything that isn't covered in feces, actually take the time to remove your head from the 19 feet in your ass it is and realize you don't know shit about the places you're talking about.
Still a movie set somewhere in between would have been interesting, I would have liked to see how theyd play the dandyverse in a longer singular plot.
Well won't happen anyways most likely
>gets caught out
>Tries to avoid the subject at hand
You see the difference between me and you is im upfront about being a shit, i don't try to hide it by being some pretentious little shit who is all like "WELL i happen to know that it this product was terrible in these regions because i use "airquotes" over my "words" and don't let people use terms because im hipster as fuck" and then continue to cover my own ass by projecting.
>Space Dandy was obvious made by japanese
Not even that guy. (if you were up to date with 4chanx you would notice a little new post number above my post)
I'm just saying of course you're from Australia, everyone can already see that from your post style without you saying it.
And i can tell by his post style that he's obviously a massive shitlord. We going to spend all day stating obvious facts or are we going to talk about dandy?
Well you guys can, i gotta get up early to play my chazwazzas.
>MC grow up after S1
>awesome techno thriller
>great character development
>great ost http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QR6LJuv6sc
for DECODE, its worth it. Like anon said, OST and battles are suburb. Character development is neat too, sounds a bit cheesy at times for my tastes though. Overall, its a great anime, and I think the dub is alright.
