Ask the guys that made Kill me baby. They had a budget of $100.
>>

It was still a masterpiece.

It's been done, OP.
>>
>>121168598
are you serious with that budget

where do they spend the money in anime production? pencils? Computer software?

I'm assuming that cost doesnt include salary?
>>
>>121168598
I feel like this manga was adapted on accident, and JC Staff didn't know what to do, so they gave some people like $50 and said go nuts. And go nuts they did.

suddenly, higher quality anime. its magic.
>>
Hire SHAFT.
>>
>>121173109
In a lot of cases it would sell better if they spent more money.
>>
>>121168006
what is inferno cop
>>
>>121168598
It's kind of impressive for an 100$ show.
They probably made the money back on the first day.

It's not that zoomed and you can see it for 5 sec though. I'll try to find a webm of the scene.

Give Animators an actual paycheck.
Like Japan I'm pretty sure does not have minimum wage laws otherwise anime companies would all be in jail for how little they pay animators
>>
Make less shows per season. Like cut the amount in half and double the budget of remaining shows.
One problem with anime these days is they are just churned out with a business as usual attitude, just throw out one or two trailer previews, send out some ecchi shit that faggots will eat up, and you don't need a high budget to do that.
Trust me when I say every animator there wants to work on something great, they don't go in thinking they want to be drawing moving pantsu forever. Give them a proper salary and get them to do actual animating.

Is it any good? I'm kinda intrigued.
>>
>>121176661
Yes.

Anime that isn't cheap shit isn't anime. The only unifying factors the entire medium shares are varieties of cornercutting.

>>121168006
Forced art.
Forced animation.
Forced everything.

Nigga this shit took 28 years to make. Of course it's going to outshine quite a bit.

What anime have the absolute best 2D animation quality? My gut wants to say some of the big mecha shows from the '80s but I'm not sure.
>>
>>121179436
Nichijou.
>>
>>121179436
Naw man, some 80s mecha shows looked nice but they weren't exactly well animated.
Although Macross DYRL has some of the best animation I've ever seen.
>>
>>121179782
Best animation for a TV series ever.

Ronja, it's made by Ghibli that's all that needs to be said.
>>
Revive cel animation.

Or alternatively, develop techniques that mimic cel animation.

>>121179436

Like, for tv you mean? Probably the mid to late 90's shows. I don't know why, but animation overall kept getting better and better over the decades. 60's looked better than 70's, 70's better than 80's, 90's better than 80's. That trend stopped when they switched to digital coloring.

Why does the right picture look so inferior?
Is it the watered down colours?
Is it the lazy as shit shading?
Is it Shinji's blur?

All that modern 2D animation is missing is the texture and naturalistic touch of hand painted cels. Linework's fine when it's done properly. We need more shows with artificial texture, like in Gankutsuou and Mononoke.
>>
>>121182565
Especially Gankutsuou, Mononoke's texture is just a lazy filter over the whole screen.
>>
>>121182565
I didn't know pretentious until I watched Mononoke.
>>
>>121182525

I think the eye/brain can tell when it's looking at something real. Like a cell animation might be a cartoon but you're looking at actual ink and paint.
>>
>>121172749
He's joking. Even an anime like KMB would require a fair amount of money.
>>
>>121168006
Any answer that doesn't have to do with increasing profits and budget is wrong.
>>
>>121182525
Just your personal preference, m8. Left has better shading, right has better linework.
>>
>>121182525
it has deep meaning to it, bro.

Give Koji Morimoto an unlimited budget and total creative freedom.
>>
>>121179403
That's only because of the ridiculously delays and critical problems with the production, most of those years didn't go into animating it.
>>
>>121168006
>TaC
Bit of a terrible example.
It was fantastic, yes, but Richard Williams went bankrupt making the film, and it was only half finished at the end. They gave it to some shitty dutch animators, who turned it into the world's most fucking retarded Aladdin ripoff.

Williams got depressed and disowned the film. So yes, sometimes it's better to go for mediocrity with speckles of gold, rather than to be totally ambitious and end up with shit. Know your limits/
>>
>>121184660
Terribly sad, too. Considering the film had brilliant cuts like these

>>121172749
>>121182786
Speaking of money available for production, I remember that one early 2000s AIC series had a budget of roughly $9000 USD (conversion rate at the time) per episode. I still struggle to figure out how they pulled it off.
>>
People have come to expect a certain visual complexity from anime and I think that hinders the animation a lot. Most characters designs have a load of shit going on and would be better suited to video games or VNs, not in a medium where they'll have to be drawn thousands of times.

Case in point; idiots like this exist >>121172987
>>
>>121172987
10/10 seriously raged
