Why did it take kyoani so long to remember they liked money?

Holy fuck I knew it sold poorly but not that poorly.
Free must be the more profitable show in Kyoani history. They were the source, the adaptation studio, and the investor. There was almost no money filter unlike Haruhi or K-on!
>It sells depressingly well.
Playing devil's advocate here but are you implying that the only market out there for anime is for fervent otaku? It's like saying how it's upsetting that porn comes in a particular flavour when there's nothing stopping you from enjoying everything else.
7K if it's actually good.
Lantis is probably going to take the biggest cut of the money from this show from music sales. The way I understand it this is more or less their's and Pony Canyon's brainchild. They even got the same writer as Love Live back on the project again.
Risky. How about, better than Nichijou worse than K-on!
>This meant the show cost 103,740円
Well, I know my quick conversion "One yen's about one cent" has been wrong for a while, plugging it into google shows that's almost $900 which is close enough
Please tell me you aren't using today's exchange rate. You gotta at least use the rate from early-mid 2011. Even still the cost in US dollars to produce an anime doesn't mean anything.
I am, but eh, it's just a ballpark to show that goddamn it cost a lot. No need to be precise, I always just estimate it at about 100 to 1 anyway.
And I wasn't talking about production costs, I was talking about the cost to purchase the entire series on disk, using USD because I sure as fuck don't really have a solid grasp of how much a hundred thousand yen is really worth.
I guess the disaster of Nichijou was the beginning of the distancing between Kyoani and Kadokawa (Hyouka probably was already in production when Nichijou flopped), is not coincidence that Chu2byo (Kyoani's franchises) continued right after those shows.
At least it seems they approached again with Amagi.
>is not coincidence that Chu2byo (Kyoani's franchises) continued right after those shows.
The Kyoto Animation Awards predate the Nichijou flop. Its possible that Nichijou left such a bad taste in their mouth that they decided to step up their game, but they had been planning on developing their own IP since about '09.
You can pretty much thank Lantis for that. Pretty much every show they do the music for it turns out at the very least well above average. I think they've handled the music for most Kyoani series.
>16.- (7,068) Amagi Brilliant Park
What the hell happened?
You know, if it wasn't made by Kyoani, I bet it would sell less than Twintail.
