BD sales aren't that important for adaptations. The studio is fully compensated either way and the publishers get the most profit from selling the LNs. Which is why they keep being made, there's hardly any risk.

I've been reading the manga; it's indeed almost all over-the-top 80's ultra-violence that's impossible to take seriously but there is an small bit that's actually "deeper". Yamato San's story is actually taken dead seriously and Fujikido's role is pretty minimal and actually rather serious. (He has to fight versus his urges of killing Yamato.)
