This is close to the setup I used, but for the last one I switched to 2BB 2DD 2CV. Your BBs will pull off those double attacks better, and cut-ins will hurt not-Kaga more.

The downside is the road to the boss node is much more perilous than Naka route--I never retreated on red on Naka route but did so twice in the other route.

It's never been placebo, it's effective at what it does (reduce air and torpedo damage), but most of the time the tradeoff just isn't worth it. What placebo? It is the anti-air formation for getting through Wo nodes safely. Though if even a single BB is in the node, I would use Double Line instead. Diamond tends to get wrecked even by lone BBs.
