It's the opposite in Japan, though. In high school most people study super hard to get into a good university, because in Japan, graduating from a good university means getting a better job. University itself is rather relaxed (except for people who major in hard sciences and/or want to pursue an academic career, also last year most people are really busy with job hunting) and it's pretty much the most free time you will have in your life.

Because in Japanese college, everyone is busy getting wasted at the local izakaya, dicking around with their circle members, and trying to fuck girls in other circles.

Japanese students tend to walk into class with a hangover on the day of an exam, write down some bullshit that makes no sense, and the professors give them a bare minimum pass and they eventually go onto become salarymen working shitty jobs that they could easily be replaced at while being fucked by senior management who have been at the company for years.


As such, high school is the last time in which the rose-colored innocence of life is burning brightly in their hearts. It's a fond place for Japanese people despite the reality being going to cram school every night because everyone else is doing it.
