What manga are you currently reading? What's your impression? How long is your backlog?

Pic related for me. I'm at chapter 17 and I really want to get off the ride ;_;
>>
I just finished what's available on the digital release of Shingeki no kyojin by crunchyroll that was ripped by the good people of /co/. And currently reading this

Ghost Talker's Daydream v01-v06 (2008-2011) (Digital) (BlurPixel-Empire)

The protagonist is the virgin albino woman Saiki Misaki holding down three jobs, neither of which she finds herself particularly happy with, one as a dominatrix in a BDSM club and writer of a column for a porno magazine and the other as a civil servant in the employ of The Livelihood Preservation Group as a necromancer able to perceive and to communicate with ghosts, sometimes allowing them to speak through her with the living. Her government job usually entails exorcism. Misaki considers her shamanic civil service position even more tawdry and less respectable than her sex work.

Also reading prison school, buddha, mountain climber man and innocent (same author), gunnm last order and billy bat.

Trying to keep it down to 10 at the same time lately to improve reading experience.
Do you guys read multiple series at the same time as well or finish one after another (not counting weekly releases obviously).
>>
>>120842194
Jesus, what a premise.
Sounds like Bleach if it was written by the h-artist who did sadloliwatchingtoystory.jpg

Anyways, thanks /a/non, gonna check it out once I finish Bokurano.
>>
>>120842201
why would you read multiple series at the same time
>>
>>120842503
A few of those are ongoing

Alot of people are reading 30+ ongoing right now, its pretty common
>>
>>120842045
>I really want to get off the ride ;_;
Iepic meme
>>
Just started reading Vagabond
>>
>>120842503
Idk
Always did it with books too ever since I was a child. I used to read a whole ficking lot and just picked up new stuff without being finished with what I had in front of me.

Kept it that way, works pretty well actually, just like watching multiple tv shows at the same time. You just have to figure out a limit as to how much you can pick up without forgetting details abou the other stuff.
>>
Just spent 30 minutes looking at my backlog trying to decide what to pick up next. Managed to narrow it down to either Shugo Chara or Aoi Hana.
Probably gonna flip for it.
>>
>>120842671
Good manga, beautiful art. I own all the tankobons, actually. Have to admit though I got really fucking tired during the monk/spear arch. I know it makes me sound like a retard but I just wanted to see sword fight in my samurai manga.

Anyways, keep going, it keeps up the quality nicely.

Just finished this. It was reasonably alright i guess.

If any anons could tell me any more brother sister incest anime that would be great, already read Koi Kaze. Yes I am aware I am a degenerate.
>>
>>120842045
Enough time to waste here but not enough to read that means my backlog grows bigger by the day. Recently finished 20th century boys it only took over 4 years
>>
>>120842553
>30+ ongoing

Anon please, my current manga follow list is at 337 series.

About 36 have been updated over the past week, and 140 total at least once over the past month.
>>
>>120842882
Have you read pluto, monster, billy bat too?
How would you rank them?
>>
>>120842891
That sounds like you read alot of trash. Like manga adaptions of LNs, or really shitty romcom manga
>>
>>120842990
Different anon here, I haven't read Billy Bat but out of the other three I liked Pluto the best. It had the tightest plot and was exactly the right length.

Contrast 20th CB which is overall fantastic, but to an extent builds up such a massive amount of hype as it goes on that it became pretty much impossible for the climax to deliver everything expected of it, even though it was a good climax in itself.
>>
>>120843055
I'm currently following 186 titles and I'd consider at least 2/3 of them to be acclaimed manga. But I've bee here long enough to know there's much more quality stuff still out there so I'd say that it's entirely possible that anon is following 300 masterpieces.
You might atill be right but that's not the point. You're underestimating manga.

Years later I decided to finally finish this. Yet another manga that should've just stayed as oneshot and never get the serialization. I feel cheated even, I thought haremshit is supposed to have more that one interesting female character.
>>
>>120842881
PLEASE help me anons the cycle must continue.
>>
>>120843055
Guilty as charged. On my reading list are only about 50 series I'd rate 8 or above, which is the threshold for me to consider something good enough to recommend someone else with no hesitation.

Then about 75 ongoing series rated 7, which I definitely enjoy reading but acknowledge they have flaws.

120 series rated 6, which is 'not really that good but entertaining enough to read'.

Less than 50 rated 5 which is 'why am I reading this' tier.

The numbers don't add up because there's a large chunk of stuff I haven't given a rating yet (ie stuff I followed after the first chapter was released and then no group ever scanned it again)
>>
>>120843146
I'm saving 20th up for last because the scans are terrible and the tankobons are out of print in my country and go for 30€ each which is ridiculous.

I really liked Pluto, especially the cinematic flow of the storylines, switchin from one another perfectly. Haven't finished Monster yet so I can't decide right now.
>>
>>120843473
Yeah I had a ton of manga like "why am I reading this"

Usually shit I see threads of, people talk about it, and threads fall off hard.
>>
I'm thinking about buying Dragon Ball, but which 3 in 1 release should I get? The new one or the Vizbig version?
>>
>>120843473 here: I'm sorry for letting you down >>120843268 anon ;_;

'Acclaimed' is a pretty odd word though - how is that judged?
Every now and then I look at manga rankings and awards, and some pretty mediocre stuff can sneak in past 15th place or so.
>>
>>120843354
>>120843354
>reading haremshit

There's your problem right there. The only good harem I have ever read is knights of sidonia and that one's disguised as a mecha manga and written by based Nihei.

Catching up on JoJo part 8 and following a shit ton of other ongoing manga. Dunno how well-known Yumeka Sumomo is on /a/, but I really recommend her works.
Also I just finished Ashita no Joe. Holy shit.
>>
>>120843354
Wouldn't call it great, but I liked that series for what it was.
Didn't expect any romantic development but the comedy was good enough to make me laugh at least once a chapter.
>>
>>120843566
Where do you live?
In my country you can get the original tankobons off ebay for like 60-80 bucks.

Do the Vizbig have all the color chapters? If yes, get those, DB has a fuck ton of those back from the days when WSJ wasn't run by Jews.
>>
>>120843862
I think the new release has the Kanzenban covers, but doesn't have any color pages and the Vizbig has some color pages but is also censored.
>>
>>120843473
>Less than 50 rated 5 which is 'why am I reading this' tier.
Somehow i end up enjoying those the most.
>>
>>120842990
Indeed I've read those 8/10.
The stories get too dense. And the damned endings too much build up. And why all the fucked up stuff happen or are related to children????
>>
>>120843587
>how is that judged

Nothing fancy, really. Just stuff that is generally considered good by /a/ and other manga/comic reading communities from my experience. You know, stuff like BLAME!, Dorohedoro, Punpun - there's a lot more of those than you might expect, you don't have to get into obscure stuff to make a solid 100 titles backlog.

Don't feel bad about your backlog, /a/non. Manga are made for entertainment after all. I for example have a weakness for yuri shit like kaze-san or prism.
>>
>>120843983
>censored

Kek, what kind of faschist country would censor a comic meant for 12 year old boys, that fucking ridiculous! I'm genuinely mad now - I know it's not your fault anon, but Jesus!
>>
>>120844297
If I got into guilty pleasures I've read nisekoi until I catch up in two evenings it was kinda fun.
>>
>>120843860
>Didn't expect any romantic development
I actually expected something after that thing at love hotel in the middle, that's why I finished it this time. I mean, that girl fits "the first girl" rule haremshit is so fond of, things were wrapping up nicely.
And then that dogshit ending with timeskip happened.

>>
>>120844665
I'm not sure I want a sequel at this point. The author clearly got tired of this story already.
>>
>>120844438
Appearantly at some point Viz thought it was ok to do it.
>>
Made some progress on my big-ass backlog over the past few months. Caught up with some /a/ favorites like Prison School, Teppu and Monmusu. Also finished Doubutsu No Kuni which was very good.

I'm realizing I might be more of a finished series guy than an ongoing follower despite having followed and being following some series for quite a long date. Past quarter I started reading Bastard!!, so adding yet another series that will likely have either its author or the reader dying before being finished up (the author most likely).

Thinking about starting either OPM or Vagabond, but I'm on constant mood swing these days. Feel like reading something deep and with a lot of reflections, so probably the later.
>>
>>120844918
OPM it's the way light hearted comedy with super powers.
>>
>>120844918
If you have mood swings, read OPM, its super comfy and funny.
But absolutely read Vagabond too at some point.
>>
>>120844918
>Bastard!!

Got the first 30 or so tankobons off ebay for 40 bucks or so after seeing a lot of images of the later chapters in OPTs.
Read the first 4 or so volumes lately but was hugely disapointed. I expected something like early berserk but got some kind of wow fanfiction bullshit instead.

When does it get good, I'm thinking about skipping a lot of volumes...

Just read up on the latest Yumekuri chapter, Goddess a cute. Started reading the shitload of manga I bought when I was in Japan with Soul Catcher(S), 703X and Haychine!

>>120845324
It's really just nonsensical action fun with added heavy metal references. I guess it gets better once Dark Schneider gets like some devil powers and all the angels and demons appear and shit. Then again I haven't read it since forever.
>>
>>120845324
I think around volume 15 or 16... the series revamps itself immsensely at that point. The art also improves significantly with time.

I found good parts of the Kall-su and Anthrax arc enjoyable, but it might not be everyone's cup of tea.

I have to say it's a series that demands a high investment in order to bear with all the sucky and convoluted shit of the start. But it gets some pretty good moments later on.

The other issue is, if you managed to make this far, at around this turning point I mentioned, it might also not be your cup of tea, this time not necessarily because of art, action or perhaps plot quality, but the changes in the direction of the story might not be easy to reason with, even if at some corner of some people's minds it makes sense with the whole convoluted and crazy shit on the Bastard!! universe.

And like the above said, the author will probably not finish whatever story he may envision. He seems to be confortable redoing tankos, fapping to DS's imaginary adventures that will probably never be told and making character designs for games and TCG's.

In other words, just enjoy the nice art, the rock and heavy metal metal references, coupled with all the other sily references to all sorts of other series and works (Popeye, Powerpuff Girls, even freakin Naruto).
>>
Is Viz's Slam Dunk release worth buying? Personally I prefer print manga because the art looks better on print.
>>
>>120846096
>>120846310

Thanks, that's very detailed. I guess I just expected something else after seeing al those pages that seemed rather dark and the giger-esque monster designs.

I might still skip to volume 15 or so like you recommended, there's still so mich other stuff I have to read.
Will watch out for references, that sounds fun, guess I shouldn't take it too seriously.
>>
>>120845151
>>120845148
The question before starting OPM that always strikes me though, and I always get answers one way or another (probably some people trolling or being sarcastic), is whether starting with Murata's or ONE's version.

I will probably go with Murata's uber art and then go to ONE's after his material ends and I'm story starved.

Don't know about case in point but I usually buy physical releases only when the scans are shit. Anything with good scans, especially stuff with lots of double spreads is super convenient to read on tablets with good screens.
If you want to get basketball manga tankobons I'd recommend Real because of the superb art it's really worth it.

Just go with Muratas version. People gon arguing about the art (obviously murata is superior) but I personally think Muratas panelling is much better and more dynamic which shows a lot during the action scenes.
Also all changes in designs Murata did are improvements imo - for example changing the hilt of "atomic samurai" or whatever it was called from a swastika to the symbol for atom.
If you read muratas version first you will notice a lot of those things.
