I think 'What was the point' was the point.

Dunno. I kind of liked the mysterious open ending of season 1. It reminded me of the ending to the second Tenchi OVA series. It gave a hint of what was to come, but ended in such a way that you could walk away satisfied regardless.

It was because the guy writter for serial experiments lain took over full writing for the big o and pulled the same sort of nosenseical shit he did with lain. Big O is still one of my favourites I just like to to forget about a number of episodes from the second season.

Well Season 1 left on a very definite cliffhanger that would have made a much less complete-feeling ending than what we got. And more Dorothy is always necessary.

They made it knowing that there might be a 3rd season, but there also might not be. The ending is supposed to function as either a series or season finale. The very ending sequence that repeated the first episode was the one thing that would have been different.

This. Roger was a negotiator, he negotiated with Angel to not reset their memories at the end of the simulation, hence "we have come to terms". Angel kept resetting it to achieve an outcome where she was with Roger, but eventually she accepted that Roger was supposed to be with dorothy, which is why dorothy ended up human. There were many other flaws to point out but the ending wasn't that hard to understand.

That's what I thought, but that's where the flaws (potentially) of the series begin. While the ending was somewhat concrete in the context of the show, there were a lot of things like that which were basically just written away by "ANGEL AND SIMULATION STUFF". I know people who like the fact that a lot was left up to interpretation, but that always bothers me with storytelling in any medium.
