I'm with you on the relationships, even Kyousuke and Sayaka's dynamic was only emotional because of the tragedy. I still care about the characters, though. Chalk the lack of depth in some relationships up to limited screentime. I find it's best to try and fill the gaps in myself or at least take it as a given that the strong relationships are there.

Were you even here during the run? There would be Mami threads fucking daily. Sayakafags couldn't hope to compete with her popularity then and they struggle now. Not to mention the fact that when it comes to plot and character development Mami was next to nothing in both the film and the series. I watched the two review movies and felt a little more invested but the lesser three of Mami, Kyouko and Sayaka seemed to be there for the sake of the plot than for their own personal reasons, despite their well fleshed out stories, emotions and motivations they still seemed like secondaries to Homura's ominous presence.

But I will give it another go around sometime.
