Kanyasai is the best school festival ever portrayed in anime. Watched for the production values

One point i noticed in this thread again, even people that like Hyouka for whatever reason dislike Movie ark.

So apparently 2deep4u can happen even when you like the show. Sure, other arks, like festival were lot more event packed - but Movie ark is the ark that actually kick starts the plot (the icecream ark is more introdution and not relevant until much later for character development), has indepth character insight and best ending.

I just rewatched Hyouka BDs on Christmas and thats the ark thats the most memorable by impact and imho best written in whole series.

If anyone other than KyoAni wrote it then it'd probably be great. But fuck, those generic "quirky girl and perpetually annoyed guy" leads, the generic supporting cast, and the mundane "mysteries". I've tried watching it three times and it's just not for me. Animation wise it's amazing, but the actually content seems better suited for entry-levels.

The movie arc was not enjoyable because for the most part it was repetitive and also introduced a bunch of characters nobody cares about who don't show up again and has them talk for the entire duration. Similar to the reason most people disliked Hana.

How i wish KyoAni would ever make anything of Hyouka quality again... but here need not just talent and resources, but also good source material - since big part of thing people love about Hyouka is after all just faithful to detail KyoAni adaptation of novel.

Hope the new Euphonium is more Hyouka than K-On. Its also adaptation of proper novel so hopefully would be decent, also i`d preffer Takemoto in it rather than Yamada...

Seasoned viewers may not see the use of sitting through something they've seen 1000 times. That is what makes it boring for people.

I liked movie arc. I just hated that manipulative evil bitch that made Oreki her pawn. But even that I liked in the sense it was a pretty intense arc that left permanent marks on MC. Shows usually cower from this because muh status quo. It was a harsh experience for Oreki and for me as a watcher but it gave an important lesson perverse people sometimes get away with stuff and you can be fooled no matter how smart you are but that doesn't mean you should stop trying. Life goes on.

Animation wise Kyoukai no Kanata was their next "ambitious" project after Hyouka, and in terms of production it was great, and animation not worse and in many aspects better than Hyouka. However the source material and bad direction really killed it, so its nothing more than show off of KyoAni action sakuga best appreciated in slow-mo.

Maybe the movies will somewhat fix the franchize.

I finished the festival arc two days ago and it was fucking fantastic, probably my favorite festival arc ever (though, I think the mystery of this arc was plain retarded), but before that I don't think it was really interesting, I guess the animation and pretty visuals made me keep going.

It's certainly not for everyone, but I really enjoyed it.
To me, the characters were all likable, the plot served as a good excuse to listen to them talk to each other, and it really relaxing on the eyes.
