I prefer Bebop's sub over the dub.

I just think the Japanese VAs are better.

Am I in the minority?
>>

The series creator thinks you're a faggot weeb and need to kill yourself
>>
>>120635582
Probably.
>>
>>120635597
Who gives a shit what that faggot Watanabe thinks?
>>
No, you're not alone. I can't stand Spike's dub voice. His voice is too high pitched, it just feels wrong. The majority of people who like the dub are nostalgiafaggots anyway. I genuinely think Cowboy Bebop is a better show with the original audio.

It's like I'm really on /v/!
>>
>>120635672
I don't think that dubs are good, but for a select few shows they can be fun to watch during a second viewing. The only show I've liked dubbed was Berserk, mainly because it just felt like that sort of gritty, "mature" anime that I would see people watching as a kid.

But yeah, dubs are shit.
>>
>>120635672
You don't know? The original creator of Cowboy Bebop prefers the English voices.

Also being "pro sub" or pro dub" exclusively is stupid tribalism, things aren't so black and white.
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsEZPi72wi8

Sub is better, case closed, no questions asked
>>
>>120635672
Most bebop fans are normalfags so its no surprise they prefer dubs

>>
>>120635708
Does anyone else see what I mean about Spike's dub voice just feeling wrong? I don't know how to describe it, but it just doesn't feel right. It's seriously like there's a smaller person inside of Spike talking, not Spike himself.
>>
The Dub has more personality and for once, much more natural! The Sub feels flat....It's proba because Cowboy Bebop has such a western setting, it's natural
>>
I'm not from burgerland, so subs it is

The main cast and recurring characters and some of the one off characters are superior in the dub but a lot of the background characters and a few one offs like Rocco are much better in the sub

Unsho Ishizuka (Jet) and Norio Wakamoto (Vicious) sounded better in my opinion

As for Spike, I think both VAs were good.

This is one of the only scenes I didn't feel was well-done in the dub. On the whole the dub is better. You can really tell that the original cast didn't give much of a shit.
>>
>Am I in the minority?
Probably, but why would you give a shit about nostalgiafags who watched the dubbed version when they were children. I recently tried to watch the dubbed version and it's awful.
>>
>>120635672
If you'd been on this board for more than 1 day you would know that Bebop's dub is pretty commonly viewed as as good or better than the sub. Creator even prefers dub.
>>

You can clearly see in this thread that it's the opposite.

>The most famous example is the English dub of Cowboy Bebop, which is just as equally liked as the original Japanese version. Another notable one is the English dub of El-Hazard: The Magnificent World, which is even stated by the creators to be the definitive voice cast.

>tvtropes
I know, but this is where dubfags copy their arguments from. Just another example of their fantastic reading comprehension.
>>
>>120639542
So you back your argument with posts from one thread and think that you have a valid point? There are threads like this one every couple weeks and it's very evenly split between people who like dubs and subs, but dubs for shows such as Eva and Bebop are widely accepted as good.

>>
>>120640207
I doubt it's all this one tvtropes' page's fault, I've been hearing that long before TVTropes. I think the rumor stems from an old DVD extra interview. I can't verify it because I can't find them subtitled easily on the Internet and I'm not about to comb through ever interview that Wantabe ever done.
>>
>>120640842
It was a trivial interview but butthurt elitists love to say that if it's not official, it can't be proven. Official source has been lost at this point, so TvTropes is as close as it gets.

And stop acting like an elitist. It's from a DVD extra, so buy the DVD if you want the source interview. Your opinion of subs being better is taken with a grain of salt in the first place, and there's nothing to refute the link besides your own personal opinion.

And I just wanted to say, HEY NOW, I never said 100% it was from a DVD interview, I was speculating at the source and could only find that as a POSSIBLE source if any. From the direction this thread took, it sounds like you dubfags took that and ran with it.

I prefer Bebop's dub too, but it's on you to prove the claim. I'm sure the DVD extras are on the Internet and if you can find them with subtitles then you can verify the claim.

Japanese sense of politeness with the dub director in front of him. Not one word about it being superior or preferred though.

Also according to som random ANN user, which is still a better source than tvtropes:
>Just as a point of reference and/or interest, I was at a discussion/autograph evening with Shinichiro Watanabe a couple of months ago here in Edinburgh, and 2 episodes of Bebop were shown, in Japanese as that was how Watanabe had requested they be shown.

Not to sincerely post in this thread, but the "bang" at the end was delivered with resignation, exhaustion, and isolated finality in the original version. When Blum says it it's got horrible reverb and he is all genki when he says it like some videogame catchphrase or something. Totally ruined the mood.
>>
>>120638932
To be fair, Dandy's dub is 50x better than the sub, aside from maybe QT's voice.
>>
Cowboy Bebop, Dragon ball, and GitS are the only dubs i've ever preferred.

actually, i've never even heard GitS/SAC in Jap so maybe that's better too.
>>
>>120635708

I don't see anything wrong with either version. The most noticeable difference was in the sound effects. In cases like that, listening to dialogue in your native language just makes sense.
>>
>>120643409
IMO GitS:SAC is pretty equal in dub and sub. I overall prefer the Japanese version, the emotional, intense moments are done better in Japanese. "SAAAAAIIIIITOOOOOO" vs "Hey Saito! Hand over that weapon NNNNNOW!"

That said, Steve Blum is a lot better as The Laughing Man than the original. You can tell in that one scene where he threatens the medical CEO on live television that you see again and again. Blum gives a lot of depth to the performance, whereas the original guy just sounds flat with the same ol bishounen voice you've heard a million times.

I haven't watched the movie in English.

>>
>>120643728

Poor judgement is using subtitles when better options are available. They do detract from the experience, and there are very few instances where people can enjoy an anime without that hindrance, so not taking advantage of the opportunity is foolish.
>>
People always mention the same exact shows. Always.
>>
>>120644299
it's not like dubbed shows are being pumped out. And a good dub will remain a good dub in 20 years, so there's no reason they wouldn't be mentioned
>>
How about you actually talk about the show.
I've watched Toys in the Attic today. That fridge monster was something else.
>>
>>120642590
>Steve Blum as Onizuka
That does not sound right to me.
>>
>>120635695
Eugh... Berserk and Black Lagoon dubs were horrid, nothing like hiring a f-list va's straight of a kids show and then telling them to sound gruff and swear.

Sounds like tracheotomy victims doing mobster impersonations.
>>
>>120641527
Of course they do, have you heard how their va's speak English in a show?
It's like Tricia Takanawa doing a parodying of a texan.

They think people actually talk like that.
>>
>>120643014
Puns, pacing, names and intonation were off.

If you have no frame of reference, sure it's perfectly fine

But if you have a feel for the language and anime in general, it's like comparing Velveeta to cheese.

A lot of us saw that when the dub was easily available, and one of our first anime to watch, not really understanding the liberties dubs generally take for localization and other reasons to enjoy subs.

The preference for dub in Cowboy Bebop is mostly nostalgia or simply liking the version many of us were exposed to at the time.

There are a handful of anime that I prefer the dub over the sub.

DBZ's sub voices are awful. Goku's voice sounds like either a little kid or an old woman. I don't give a shit that she was the VA for kid Goku, it doesn't fit at all for adult Goku. Also the original YGO series I prefer the dub because of Kaiba's extra snark.

Right now I'm convinced the only people who bash every single dub are either elitists or people trying too hard to fit in.

You're misrepresenting localization as regulated to only very trivial things. This is not the case.

But it's funny that you still managed to pick of an example that makes the dub look ridiculous. We have a term for onigiri in English, it's "rice ball." Choosing to localize it as donuts was idiotic.

Dub women sound several years too old
Sub women sound several years too young

Dubs tend to be better when they aren't constrained to the high-pitched garbage of high school characters.
