If EVA didn't create enough otaku, CCS definitely did even more. The greatest mascot in anime history and the cutest little girl who changed outfits every episode was mindblowing. Not to mention fluid animation because of it's high budget in a time where TV anime were cutting corners. The movies are the only thing I found unnecessary.

honestly outside of patrician circles CCS is still painfully under-appreciated. even people who agree its good like it for shitty moe reasons.

CCS managed to to be enjoyable in episodic format without ever feeling stale or lacking in plot and character development. Especially for its time, that genre is terrible for rewatching (even Sailor Moon is horrible monster of the day filler shit).

The animation does have occasional QUALITY but in general it feels on OVA standards (for the 90's) through all 70 episodes.

I like it for the same reason I like the original Dragon Ball; it's a fun series that doesn't take itself too seriously yet still manages to keep you hooked, while it isn't heavy on plot, is heavy on action, character development and relationships. Like with Dragon Ball, you have to be in the right mood to fully appreciate it, and it certainly won't be mistaken for high class literature, but for what it is, it's still really enjoyable.

CardCaptor Sakura is so well liked because it hit on every audience. It is the best example of a 'general audience' anime. It was a Mahou shoujo that not only young girls, but boys, grown ups and everyone could get into. Because it focused on many broader topics beyond just 'young girls using magic'. It was a tale about growing up. It was a tale about understanding friendship. It was a tale about three generations of families. The 'mahou' plot really was the sub plot, while the character developed plot was the main plot.

It says a lot when the best characters in the show (besides Sakura) are Touya and Sakura's Great Grandfather. Also, Sakura is adorable without being an airhead or 'moe'.

Galaxy Angel was a boring show and I'm glad /a/ stopped having daily threads for it back in 2007. Pita Ten was infinitely better than Galaxy Angel.

Despite all this, there's no way Mint can be considered a mascot for all of anime. Ruri, Rei or even Shinobu would be considered before her. Also, Sakura and Aruuruu are infinitely more cute.

Sakura overlooks the obvious. But she's hardly an airhead. Many episodes focus on her having to think of a way out rather than just fighting.

The infamous 'My Windy card is ineffective!' Then she figures out some crazy concept no one else would ever think of...and it works somehow. At worst, she has plot armor. But she's not dumb or slow.

Cardcaptor Sakura is just about the only anime I'd consider flawless as close as any anime is going to get. Amazing soundtrack, amazing animation, amazing visuals, character design, voice acting, amazing characters, story is great, episodic but the episodes aren't the same old shit over and over like Sailor Moon or most other Mahou Shoujo childrens shows.

Kept me hooked the entire time, I really can't find anything bad to say about it.

Its not really 'slow'. The flow just feels totally odd because the first half the episode she;s having tons of visions and you're meeting all the characters. Then suddenly after the commerical break she's slowly trying to figure out what's in her dad's office. Its just odd pacing is all.

Other episodes in the show are definitely slower. Like episode 4 (Wood and Rain) or episode 7 (The Museum/Silence Card). But after a while, you actually start to appreciate the toned down, slower pace. At least I did. because it allowed for more character development.

I just remembered I never actually watched either of the movies, and I've watched the series about twice by now.

Not really. You could take it out of the series canon and nothing will have changed. I can appreciate the writers going for a darker tone, but I felt the movie as a whole was unnecessary as it didn't really add anything to the overall series. And the story itself was rather weird, even when compared to the main series.
