Why is it such a problem if Ash never wins a League, anyway? In the anime, winning the League is fucking huge. It's not just grinding your way to level 70 and trouncing a bunch of sub-bosses with shitty mons with static levels. It's like saying an athlete is shit because they're not an Olympic Gold medalist, or saying a scientist is unintelligent because they didn't win the Nobel Prize. Winning a League Tournament is the equivalent of being the best fucking Trainer in that entire region, just behind the Elite Four. If you win the tournament, you are officially one of maybe a hundred or so best trainers in the world. In a population of 6 billion where most of that number is composed of Trainers, that's fucking amazing.

Getting rid of Ash and Pikachu and putting new main characters is like getting rid of Nobita and Doraemon and making new main characters, or getting rid of Naruto or getting rid of Conan.

I really like Citron. He has quite a lot of personality compared to Ash's past male companions. Brock's only shtick was his flirting, otherwise I think he went whole episodes without even talking. Especially after Johto.

Citron is pretty entertaining and he's helpful when he needs to be and he's a genuinely good older brother. His machine invention gags are still well written too.

What I also really like is their attention to detail on how unfit he is. Hes always running behind or falling or something like that. Normally they'd forget about something liek that 80% of the time and have him run at the same spped with the group.


Also Yuki Kaji is pretty pleasing to listen to and he does a really good job with him.
