Why is "it can't be helped" so omnipresent in manga and anime?
>>
Well, shikata ga nai.
>>
It's omnipresent in Japanese culture.
>>
>>120571604
>"it can't be helped"

I even use that in casual (eng) speech too.
>>
Doushio?
>>
It can't be helped.
>>
>>120571604
When something unpleasant happens, japanese people say “shikata ga nai” and its derivatives, because in Japan it's considered bad manners to complain or to blame someone for problems you encounter and become emotional about things overall.
>>
>>120571604
Why is "What's up?" so omnipresent in American comics and movies?

At least What's up is friendly, "It can't be helped" is pretty pessimist.
>>
>>120572124
Well, to a certain degree. It's not rude to say it's your fault and you messed up even if you couldn't help the situation in any way and it's absolutely not your fault, but you shouldn't repeat it over and over—that's getting emotional. Nips are very considerate and thoughtful. At least, that's what “good manners” means to them.

It isn't pessimism.
Stoicism was also a school of philosophy of ancient Greece (which is part of nearly all Western cultures), and it pretty much told you couldn't do anything about things that were "outside" and that all you are in control of is yourself and thus how you react to externals.
>>
>>120575570
Oh yeah, stoicism, that school of philosophy that maintained that you can be as much as free in chains as you can without.

If everyone adhered to that, there would have never been revolutions and we'd all be de facto slaves while being "free" in our minds.

Someone would fuck in your ass and mouth but you'd say "Hey what's important is not what happens but how I react to it, and I'll react by not giving a fuck", and be perfectly fine.
>>
>>120575347
I wish to move to Japan just so I don't have to listen to people complaining every day. Also people being obnoxiously loud on the bus.

Although, maybe there are people who complain in Japan also.

It is just so loud here.
>>
>>120575764
If it really bothers you that much, then you'll probably find something else Japanese people do to be unhappy about, frankly.

But yes, entitlement is a big thing here. And it's super annoying.
>>
>>120575020
>could make everything perfect
>doesn't
>because reasons
>you're supposed to obey Him because He has a plan for everything
>Him being omnipotent defeats the purpose of having a plan in the first place
>every question you don't have an answer boils down to "i dunno therefore god"
face it, it's a shitty way of thinking about the world
just say you don't know why things happen instead of using an invisible man in the sky as an excuse for reasurrance
>>
>>120573296
>pessimist
It depends on the perspective.
An "it can't be helped" attitude promotes this sort of inner peace with whatever life throws at you. You don't need to make yourself suffer by fighting it or dwelling on things that could have been. "Let it go, it can't be helped. That's how life is."

On the other hand, that attitude looks passive as fuck to others. They view it as complacency. They wonder, "Why the hell are you okay with what you currently have when you can get something better?"

Again, depends on the perspective. Your perspective.
>>
>>120574438
I recognize that bulge.
>>
>>120575760
Wrong
Stoicism doesn't say you shouldn't do anything about your situation.
All it says is that all you are truly in control is how you react to things.
It's not about letting things be, but before focusing on externals, try changing yourself first.
>>
>>120575347
lmao epic xD
>>
>>120575860
If everything was perfect we would either not exist or we simply wouldn't have free will, because as long as we exist and have free will we'll do as we please and that means fucking up big every other time.

If God was just magically fixing things every time we fuck up, then He would be fixing things all the time, and we would grow reliant on that - or getting punished the fuck out of ourselves.
>>
>>120575885
>when you can get something better?

But you couldn't. Because it can't be helped.

If everyone was perfect, everyone would be a Mary Stu. Do you want to be surrounded by Mary Stu's for the rest of eternity? I don't think you belong on this board.
>>
>>120576043
Then that's not what "can't be helped" means. "Can't be helped" literally means that you can't do shit about it.
>>
>>120576276
>Implying free will is real.
Specially when you factor God in. Oh, he controls fucking EVERYTHING except a little part of your brain, because... humans are super duper special? Oh, right the Bible says it's like that, no worries, everything is your fault.

>If God was just magically fixing things every time we fuck up, then He would be fixing things all the time, and we would grow reliant on that - or getting punished the fuck out of ourselves.
And we can't grow reliant on it, why? He's fucking God. The only reason you would need to know better is if there was a possibility something to use that knowledge on. But we're talking about God, he's infallible; the only reason anything bad happens is because He lets it happen. So the only reason we would need to learn from a test from Him is so we can face another test from Him, and so on ad infinitum.
>>
>>120572181
>>120572272
i don't get it
>>
>>120576728
Precisely, we're special, because he wanted us to be special.

You're also answering yourself in your second point. God could do anything and he knows everything that happens and will happen, but won't fix everything so that we learn, because to learn is to grow.
>>
>>120576669
The can't-be-helped mentality is pretty much a stoic attitude.
The idea isn't much as giving up as it is not letting your inability to affect something get negatively to you.

Because God - i.e. the Architect and Master of everything that was, is and will be - has given us a somewhat special treatment.
Thus, in comparison to everything else, we're special.

>And we need to grow, why?
Because that's part of having free will, friend.
We learn in order to grow, and we grow to become better people.
We could have been made perfect, but then we would be like machines. Instead, becoming better every day by our own will and desire to be a better person is much more meaningful.

Now, this is my personal idea, but I think it's that capability why we're special to God.
