Does good romance in shoujo even exist? Serious question. It's amazing how bad most of it is, given that romance is the main genre for the demographic.

A shoujo fan looking at seinen is likely to think the same thing. Different strokes for different market segments. Stop being such a huge faggot.
>>
Read more shoujo.
>>
This is a thinly veiled recommendation thread. Ignore it.
>>
>>120512082
It's not like I just took a glance and decided that most shoujo is complete shit. I've read several shoujo manga, without much luck.
>>
>>120512082

Surely the comparison is between shoujo and shounen.
>>
>>120512082
Eh, different strokes? I'll buy that certain kinds of romance are tailored to 12-year old boys and girls, but when you're a young adult, some of that stuff should start feeling immature to you.

That said, shoujo covers a wide swath of different types of romance, some of which I would argue is more mature than even the "best" seinen stuff, which is ultimately still very man-boy in feel. Of course the true answer is that josei is the best... if you can help from falling asleep.
>>
>>120511947
I've yet to see a good shoujo romance.

Closest I can think of is Ore Monogatari!! but then again I probably have different criteria for a 'good' romance.

Does Akatsuki no Yona have any romance in it? Was thinking of picking up the manga, since the anime is on-going.
>>
Kimi Ni Todoke
Lovely Complex
Dengeki Daisy
Last Game
Kaichou Wa Maid Sama
>>
>>120516259
>Does Akatsuki no Yona have any romance in it?
Should probably have worded that differently, since it's a shoujo its bound to have romance in it. Is the romance good?
>>
>>120516332

good job at making a rec thread out of it

Taiyou no Ie is pretty qt.
>>

How is lovely complex even close to kimi no todoke.
HOW
>>
>>120516635
They're not close, they have good romance.
>>
>>120516681
Don't get me wrong I enjoyed Lovely Complex but there was nothing "good" in it. It was average at best and that got helped by the strange setup, everything is so fucking cliched that you're almost thrown off by it.
>>
>>120511947
I thought Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun was really great. Allthough mostly for how it handles everyone but the main couple. Especially the silver medalist is handled really well.

I have only read this shounen romance and it was absolutely amazing. One of the best works in manga, imo.
>>
Usually they're about an average but cute girl that slowly works down the emotional barriers the brooding pretty boy has put up.
It's amazing how repetitive the shit gets.
>>
There really isn't any good shoujo/josei outside of mahou shoujo.

I try to get into it every once in a while but they're all so bad it hurts, it surprises me how many adult male westerners actually enjoy something made for little japanese females.

Superior romance coming through.

That anime really took me by surprise though, picked it up because I saw the "in a sexual way" thing from the first episode, and it turned out to be one of my favourites.
>>

/a/'s paranoia about rec threads is intense

Only shoujo i enjoyed was Kimi ni Todoke because there is no fucking love triangle.
As a guy, when I read love triangle stories I can't help but feel NTR'd.

>>120517518
Too bad it's shounen.

>>>/out/

The last arc with the emo boy and misunderstandings was dumb as shit, but the rest was golden.
>>
>>120517559
Too bad it was boring as fuck and took two seasons to get any traction because of misunderstanding resets.

As I said I enjoyed it. But it doesn't even come close to kimi ni todoke
>>
>>120516935
But what if OP is a woman?
>>
>>120517844
>It will just be boring shit now.
Are you even still reading it? I honestly think it's still pretty damn above-average, more so, it's even better now with them as a couple.
>>
>>120515133
Yeah, Oremonogatari is definitely not your standard shoujo romance fare but it's fun. I'm rather looking forward to the anime, although if past experience tells us anything, it's that it'll only have one season. Ever.
>>
>>120511947
I liked Karakuri Odette. Asao was the ballest.

Kareshi Kanojou no Jijou is pretty good. I don't really like the (seven) last volumes with all the drama though. The anime is on the same level, if you can stand low budget powerpoint presentations and abrupt endings (personnally I like it a bit better than the manga).

Please save my Earth is fine (but veeeery slow near the end).

Fruits Basket and Hoshi Wa Utau are readable, and sometimes touching if you're not a totally detached unemotional cyborg.

Kodomo no Omocha is like a kindergarten KKNJ (although it was released two years earlier).

Lovely Complex is also fun, as /a/non said.

I'd add Nodame Cantabile, but it's probably josei.

This one was probably one of the best shounen/shoujo romance Manga i've read. Character development was good the pasting wasn't as slow as a fucking fat kid with a heartattack. Ending sucked, tho. But over and all it was still good.
>>
Heart of Thomas is gorgeous.

What is sauce on OP, all I get are arabic anime image dumps and tumblr tags for 'anime couple'.

Nozaki-kun, Fruit Basket, Ouran High School, Chihayafuru, Alice Gakuen should I stop?

>>120511947

Shoujo have good romance as much shounen have good, thoughtful and insightful plot.

>Shoujo manga
>Girl is viewed as "ugly" for being a slob
>Suddenly start taking care of herself between the vacation before high school starts
>Become beautiful
>The perfect shoujo protagonist falls for her right of the bat
>>
>>120524804

Is there a shoujo where the main love interest isnt instantly attached to the female protag and she has to work to get noticed without the best friend secretly being the main love interest.
