Because Brotherhood was a decent adaptation, and 2003 was great as its own thing.

2003 and Brotherhood are too different to be compared. They both have their flaws and strenghts. It all comes down to subjective taste: if you like more drama, grimdark stories with a more alternative spin on a shounen series with open endings, you're likely to prefer 2003. If you are more to fun and action, with a both rich and coherent story with closure, Brotherhood is for you.

The constant shitflinging between fans of 2003 vs Brotherhood is stupid, it makes you all look like children. It's fucking great that there exist two almost completely different versions of this story. There's something for everyone that way. You're never ever going to convince the other parti that your version is "better" so fucking get over yourselves. No, it really was. For example the Night of the Chimera's Cry was really done in one episode, so people who had just come into the series through Brotherhood have no reason to get attached to Nina and thus don't feel nearly the same impact of her death.

Then there is the fact a bunch of characters were introduced in a filler episode and the implications of King Bradley being a homunculus came in there as well.
