There are only a few plausable reasons why we haven't gotten an anime yet:

- Studios are only going by the tankobon releases, which are barely far enough to support a 1 cour series (ONE's version could easily reach 3 cour by the end of the Garou arc).

- An anime has been attempted but Murata/ONE won't give the green light.

- An anime HAS started production, and through some miracle the studio in charge is taking a super long time to draw the most breathtaking art of our time.

Eyeshield 21 for me back in the day was bar none the only sports manga I thoroughly enjoyed. I'd say it's definitely worth a read, especially to see Murata evolve into the master he is today.

However, it catches Yakitate Japan syndrome in that its 3rd act goes down the shitter quite fast.

The action scenes are fine? If you don't like realism then there loads of western artists that are more stylistic and are great try Sean Phillips(Criminal) or David Mazzucchelli(Batman: Year One). Another good source is the Queen and Country series by Greg Rucka which has different artists for each volume.
Also Ryan Ottley doesn't trace(kinda obvious since no one looks like that irl)

Here's a raw page from queen and country which has good art in my opinion.
Two more artists with distinctive styles who I think are good are Mike Mignola(Hellboy) and Guy Davis(BPRD). I still think Murata's art is great but there's definitely comic artists just as good.

Otherwise, grey shades are enough compared to colors. They're used in japan to make books WAY cheaper. And I highly thank them for that. Colors are for collector/limited editions that are way more expensive and a bigger size (HotD's for example).

That's why manga are overall a better deal than comics.

Not to mention most mangakas do both the art and the writing while comics have a writer and illustrators and what not, also doing twice or more pages a month than most comics. It's a pointless comparison.
