I've got a question. I know the series compositor basically draft what events are going to take place in certain episodes. What more things do the series compositor in an adaptation or original anime?
When the series compositor is done with the story's draft which thing happens first: the storyboard or the scriptwriting? This is something I'd love to know. Also, why sometimes the director does the storyboard (like in Shirobako) but other times, like I've seen in the credits in other anime, other people rather than the director doing the storyboard, what's the reason for this? Oh yeah, also I know the scriptwriter basically has the freedom to write how the events drafted by the series compositor happens, is there any other thing he does? And finally I'd like to ask if there some kind of 'quality check/supervision/etc between the series compositor/scriptwriter/director so these people keep the whole thing in one vision so they don't fuck up by having different ideas. Thanks so much!
>>120441123
I think the person who wrote that underestimated the director's influence on the whole production. While he was right about P.A. Works's path dependence in teen romance/melodrama/stuff he got BTFO by how Shirobako is complety different from their usual shows.
>>120444050
seventhstyle will always bitch about something, be it good or bad. They will always find some way to make it 'unique' by throwing shit at it so people would read their article.

>When the series compositor is done with the story's draft which thing happens first: the storyboard or the scriptwriting?
Scripts go first and storyboard artists use them to define how each scene should play out.
>Also, why sometimes the director does the storyboard (like in Shirobako) but other times, like I've seen in the credits in other anime, other people rather than the director doing the storyboard
Time constraints. Episodes are done in parallel. The main director usually does the first episode so the others use it as a guideline.
>And finally I'd like to ask if there some kind of 'quality check/supervision/etc between the series compositor/scriptwriter/director so these people keep the whole thing in one vision so they don't fuck up by having different ideas.
Uh, meetings. Probably.
>>120443848
>When the series compositor is done with the story's draft which thing happens first: the storyboard or the scriptwriting?
Script. There are occasions where the director would just start drawing the storyboard without the finished script(or without any script at all) but they're really rare.
>This is something I'd love to know. Also, why sometimes the director does the storyboard (like in Shirobako) but other times, like I've seen in the credits in other anime, other people rather than the director doing the storyboard
If you look at Exodus' schedule, you will see that the director only storyboarded the first and the last episode. Ping Pong is the only series I can think of where the director storboarded every episode by himself.
>what's the reason for this
Storyboarding takes a lot of time and it's more efficient to let the episode directors storyboard their own episodes.
>Oh yeah, also I know the scriptwriter basically has the freedom to write how the events drafted by the series compositor happens, is there any other thing he does?
Sometimes they go on location hunting with other staff. This might be only limited to Kyoani's anime though.
>And finally I'd like to ask if there some kind of 'quality check/supervision/etc between the series compositor/scriptwriter/director so these people keep the whole thing in one vision so they don't fuck up by having different ideas
Lots of meetings.
>>120444424
>>120444474
Thank so much. I love you. So basically the series compositor only does draft about the story and nothing more. I wonder how much these people get paid.

Why would the book guys just wreck the anime like this? Sure, the character designs are a little off, but the show was shaping up to be high quality with lots of cloud and missile sakuga.
Now it's going to be QUALITY and stock animation.
Fuck the author. He has no excuse for this. Even if his editor lied, he has to know that the production train can't stop for this.
>>120450134
Funny story is an idiot, and the author probably doesn't even know that his comment was so interruptive.
>>120450134
I thought usually mangakas/LN writers don't really care about adaptations. The one I remember that gave full support to the studio was Horizon's LN writer.

based mamare senpai

Ehhh, Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon, not Log Horizon.
But Marmalade might be one of those people too, seeing that he visited a foreign site just to see how gaijins think of his work's adaptation.

>>120450902
Well, I thought the anime, at least season 1 was fine. The pacing was good, it delivered an adaptation of 2 thick LN quite nicely. The main problems were always the huge amount of character and sometimes infodump. Shame season 2 seems too rushed. I don't know how much he was involved with it but I remember some anons said the author recorded a video of him dancing as the references for a dance in anime.
>>120451110
He provided a small-scale of the ship layout and classroom buildings, and filmed himself doing Kimi's dance as reference for the animators.
Probably had a hand in the songs, too.

I think it's just how the writers of that blog do things? I mean, there's a lot (for this season) of Cinderella Girls and Junketsu no Maria hate long before it aired too, and I'm pretty sure there are others that got the same treatment.
>Pretty sure many of them do, and they even tend to give inputs.
I want to believe this, but there are too much LN adaptation that's just a plain mess, with lack of direction, and other bullshit. Like Index for example. I mean, adapting 8 novels in 1 season? If I was the author I won't let the person that suggested that working on the adaptation of my work. But I might be wrong though. I know one mangaka bought multiple BDs of her work's adaptation because it bombed.
