That's even wierder. It's been 10 years and it's still the prologue. Then again that makes sense considering they just decided to go to Vinland less than 2 volumes ago. So if the prologue is over 100 chapters how long will the actual Vinland part be?

So is it just me or does everyone this guy draws have massive ears? I didn't notice because of Thorfinn's hair at the beggining but after the slave arc I couldn't stop noticing.

Yukimura said many times already (on conventions, in interview and even on his twitter) that Vinland Saga will be around 25 volumes long. "A little more than 5000 pages." First time he said that was when 2nd volume came out and he has been saying the same thing since (last was around time when 13th volume was released) so I assume he has a definite plan. It may not be exactly 25 volumes but it will most likely be very close to that.

Maybe not the best example. He generally drew Fee well, but Tanabe often looked just a little bit off. It doesn't even slightly detract from Planetes as just about the height of the medium, though. I do prefer her anime redesign, plus the pacing changes make it work better as a single piece.

Look, mate, this isn't "prologue" anymore. It's just what the anon said was a joke. After the "End of the Prologue" the story already shifted its goal towards Vinland, first Thorfinn had to find himself and set his hopes to Vinland, now he's raising funds for travel to Vinland and after that he will be preparing the crew and then will the actual voyage to Vinland come.

It is already about Vinland. It was called "End of the Prologue" to clearly indicate that the focus and overall tone will shift and that now Vinland will become an actual goal.

Really love new part so far, and 112 seem to be a fun chapter.

I have no problem with tone shifts and enjoyed farmland saga, but I have no idea how my interest in the series can be sustained with a pacifist MC. And presumably most fans interest, considering most people enjoyed the badass viking aspect.

Where have you even read this? First he said that he wants to cathc up with Vinland Saga and Historie by the end of December, that didn't happen so he said he will work on that after finishing Chinggis Khan which he did early January and after that he said he will spent the rest of January on his real life.

The best part is anyone who had a working brain would understand that unless Yukimura retcons this Gary Stu style Thorfinn will eventually realize his pacifism is naive and stupid, ultimately fruitless as well.

I almost think Yukimura is just setting all this shit up for a massive tragedy. And I don't mean just getting deported from Canada. I mean Thorfinn is gonna be on his death bed, and hear news about how after Canute died his sons weren't remotely as capable and fucked everything up, just like how Thorfinn as a kid fucked everything up because his dad chose to focus on gud deeds instead of playing the long term game, making his utopia fleeting. And then Canute will haunt his dreams Sven style about WRY DIDN'T YOU HELP ME, WHAT DID YOU ACHIEVE ALONE?

But then he wakes up from his dream and sees his kids and grand kids gathered around, and dies in peace with a smile. Oh and add in Thors going Mufasa.

How come that there are so many mangas surrounding medieval-ish (pseudo-)European stuff? People say that the Japanese are very xenophobic, but I have a hard time believing it when a show like Attack on Titan (heavily German-inspired setting with the premise being that ALL Asians except one (half) has been exterminated) becomes the biggest thing of this half-decade.

Hard to say, unlike most people who end up empty shells Thorfinn had a family and home to go back to. It's probably 50/50, but I think Thorfinn would get over it a lot faster. He might not be as nice a guy though, and still be edgy.

Even in Planetes, Tanabe's idealism didn't just magically solve all the real-world problems. It gave some characters hope, but humanity was still more or less stuck in the problems they created for themselves.

Well, for one of them it kind of did.
I'm glad this was changed in the anime, it felt far too dramatic (for lack of a better word) for what the manga was aiming for.

It's because many people dislike train wrecks, especially ones without any over the top hilarity. On top of this, Vinland is a monthly, and a historical monthly on top of that. So it's a very slow motion train wreck that you can see coming from miles away, with almost no promise of a clever twist or whatever to make it interesting due to trying to stay 'grounded' unless it's to show off viking manliness or Thorfinn's Kung Fu. At least when it was the prologue, it was consistent. Farmland Saga is what Green Blood would have been if they spent 20 chapters at the farm with the old lady and then moved to Canada only to get mugged by natives instead of killing their dad.
