It hurts hearing this.Because it's true.
>>
He said /jp/ makes him laugh the most, but /a/ is the closest in style to old 4chan and is one of the best boards when compared to its size.
>>
>>120271090
/a/ family confirmed for superior.

We should really consider making our own chan for when this site goes under
>>
>>120271146
We can deal with that on ghost /a/ when the time comes.
>>
>>120271146
That would be really hard to pull off moderation for and also getting everyone to migrate. I think even if you got the majority of /a/ to go there, unless it was exactly like /a/ (which is unlikely) you'd have people leaving over time until you're left with a handful of users.
>>
>>120271265
When 4chan goes under, the /a/ community is pretty separated from the rest of 4chan, so we would probably make a separate site.

I wish we had that already to be honest.
>>
>>120271322
The organization is what's impossible. Everyone will always disagree on where to go.
>>
>>120271351
meh, i'll just follow quantity and the few good tripshits, and build from there, as most /a/nons

>>
>>120271935
>>120272070
It's not impossible. /a/nons are not all in two categories. There are narutards who don't shitpost, and there are oldfags who have been here since 2003 that spend their time shitposting. There are people who have great taste and you share the same favorite anime but think /a/ is a shithole and worse than /v/.

It's not black and white.
>>
>>120272079
>/a/ is not a gathering of friends, /a/ is a singular, schizophrenic hivemind friend.

That's why I added the term schizophrenic.
I don't know how else to describe it.
>>
>>120272208

>>
>>120272099
I browse /a/ 95% of the time but occasionally visit /tv/ for orcposting or tolkien threads, take a peek at /v/ to see if there's any big news, and /g/ on occasion.
>>
>>120272274
>/a/'s opinion

You're a retard. There is no "/a/'s opinion".

/a/ is very divided. Yes, of course you can guess that if you make a thread about an anime someone will say its shit, because there are always people who dislike things. But there will also always be people that like it too.

It depends on the thread.

If the OP is just "ASUKA A SHIT" or something along those lines then all the replies will be similarly shit, but if you try and start a legit discussion on something you're likely to get some good replies.
>>
>>120272958
You see thousands of posts per day.
"Quite often" sounds like 1% at the most. This post is not one of them.

And before it was invisible, most people used it for shitposting. So, good.

Not even close. The only thing you see posted even relatively often is ;_;

This, I'm a newfag who came to 4chan and /a/ specifically almost 2 years ago and posting emoticons back when I started you'll get way more reprimand than you get now, and the faggots who posted them didn't talk back.

Sure emoticons haven't become accepted but nowadays people mostly ignore them and if you call them out on their fagotry they'll go "lel oldfag"and such.

>>
>>120273346
That's precisely the point. You don't want to bump.

People go into shit threads to tell OP to fuck off, but keep the thread on page one for half an hour, with the thread quickly growing to hundreds of replies.
>>
>>120273264
https://archive.moe/a/search/text/emoticons/

Majority of posts are people being told to fuck off for using them.

Mods also ban for posting them most of the time.

>>120273335
Yeah, it's a shame it doesn't happen more often, but it does still happen, which still keeps it the best board.
>>
>>120273430
Which is pretty meaningless because of catalogs
>>
>>120273223
The only acceptable emoticons on /a/ are (:3) and (;___;) along with Japanese emoticons because we're all weebs at heart.
>>
>>120273435
>https://archive.moe/a/search/text/emoticons/
Half of those posts are from me.
>Majority of posts are people being told to fuck off for using them.
So, since half of them are from me, and I can't lurk every single thread on /a/, we can assume that lots go unnoticed.
>>
>>120273346

It's an etiquette that new users wouldn't really understand, just like how they'll never understand the negative aspects of catalog's existence in regards to the dynamics of an image board.

>>120273335

We got old. The older generation of users are too tired now.

We just watch the newer generation of users make the board worse and worse with a frown.
>>
>>120273362
That's when you report them. Newfags will almost always be spiteful babies like that, which is why you just have to have enough people yelling at them until they fuck off or go back to lurking. You don't get that often enough, but there's usually at least one or two people saying it. I mean, the meta threads we've had the past few days have consisted of tons of people telling /v/ crossboarders to fuck off. They're vastly outnumbered.

It could be better, and there's no denying /a/ is on the decline, but it could definitely be way, way worse. /a/ hasn't lost most of it's value yet. Don't let the quality decline make you lose hope, just keep encouraging what should be done and we can keep up the quality as much as possible.
>>
>>120273549
You assume the majority of /a/ uses the catalog.
The loss of thumbnails a few weeks back showed very plainly that most people have no idea the catalog exists.
>>
>>120273593
>We just watch the newer generation of users make the board worse and worse with a frown.
A big part of it comes from mods and moot enabling newer people with what is and what isn't welcomed here and since people aren't setting a standard new people run rampant thinking they own the place and that board culture is just a fat neckbeard myth
>>
>>120273390
/jp/ talks about a bunch of shit I don't care about.
>>
From this thread I learnt about the catalog function and that sage is no longer visible here.
Oh, wow.
>>
>>120273656
What's also funny is people that use the in built catalog, and not the off-site one. Or people that don't use 4chan x. Or people that use the default Yotsuba B theme.

>>
>>120273722
Hey, Yotsuba B is nice. I use it from time to time.
>>
>>120273629

Ugh, I've observed countless threads where oldfags would complain about how awful the board has become, and the newfags would just tell them "deal with it, we're here now and these are our norms."

It would be lovely if they just shut the fuck up and lurked before posting, but that's not really a thing anymore.

Oh well.

It's perfectly normal for a large amount of light colored backgrounds on screen for an extended period of time just gets tiring after 10 hours of staring at them.

I think the biggest step forward is getting the mods on our side. This means reporting shitposting newfags, always. If we have enough people reporting emoticons, sauce requests, rec threads, /v/ behavior, then they'll be forced to start helping us moderate. Other than that, tell people to lurk more, sage bad threads, encourage high quality posting and perpetrate the mentality that /a/ is a good place for anime discussion (it is) to counter the "shitposting is funposting" mentality that many crossboarders have. The biggest idea to get across is that /a/ is not like the rest of the site, which is why they're supposed to lurk in order to figure that out.

The most satisfying thing is when a /v/tard comes in and says /a/ is for shitposting, nobody watches anime here and it's a terrible board, then immediately gets shat on by 15 anons telling him that /v/ is not all of 4chan.

But really, moderation is the biggest step forward we could take. We need them helping us keep the quality up. A sctrictly anime related recommendation thread is more detrimental than a blatantly off topic thread, and we need to get that across to them. The priority needs to be keeping /a/'s quality from getting worse, not enforcing rules senselessly. I'd take a rule breaking post over a /v/-quality post any day.

>>120275776
But elitism doesn't work either. We've done that for years and it's left us with the people who don't give a fuck about your elitist ideals and will just push on belligerently along their ideas.

Meanwhile, that elitist anon and belligerent anon generate a pointless shitstorm since both of them desire for the last word and an entire thread gets derailed for an hour because of something as unimportant as a :( rather than a ;_; So while Elitist sits there getting bothered about your board's quality and Belligerent starts busting out his /sp/ memes and nothing productive happens. After about 15 minutes of arguing with someone who doesn't agree with what you feel should be allowed on the board, you end up looking indistinguishable from the person you started arguing with. The thread dies and no one learns anything.

Make productive threads. Create good replies. Reply to good posters. Don't let dumb shit spiral out of control. I want /a/ to be good, but it refuses to learn from the things that obviously has not been working for the past few years.

Before you tell people off for asking for sauce, try for yourself if you can find the source without too much trouble.

If you can't find it, helping is not a bad thing.
>>
>>120276314
Discretion. And that's part of getting a good mod with discretion. I see no problem with giving sauce to a crop of an obscure manga from 20 years ago, or an anime that's very rarely posted on /a/. But if someone posts a fucking Nichijou webm and then someone cries for the source, they should be one day banned or at least warned.

Mods should also put "lurk more" in their ban explanations. Word of God helps a lot with convincing people to lurk.
>>
>>120276193

/v/ is very low quality. Naturally, the people who post there regularly have accepted the low quality of the board, and do nothing to help it. You're right that people take the elitism too far, especially with minor things like artificial distinctions between grammar and emoticons, etc, but having the right dose of it does wonders. I've seen newfags accept that they should lurk after they're told to. They're not all spiteful shitposters. The ones that are just need to be banned or told to lurk by a lot of people until they listen. They'll either leave because of how often they get yelled at, or they'll eventually learn. Things like rec threads and shitty posts should still be discouraged.

>>120276844
I think you just have to keep having conversations like the one we're having right now, where we establish that elitism is good but flying off the handle because someone posts a smiley face is not.
