Why is everyone acting like /a/ is going to die?
/a/ will still be here. You will wake up tomorrow and check the catalog as usual. And nothing will have changed.
>Nothing will change with moot leaving
Give it a year and you'll see the difference
Africa actually used to be a prosperous continent under British rule.
It turned to shit as soon as the British pulled out.
4chan is the Africa of the internet. That's why everyone calls each other niggers.
I don't think there is going to be a new admin, moot doesn't want all the responsibility to rest on one person so he'll just have mods manage it as a team. And regardless of what might happen, /a/ isn't dead yet. I'm just saddened to see /a/nons making suicide pacts already and saying they're going to move on from /a/. If everyone leaves, then it will be them who killed /a/.
Its because we all want it to be over. It's like an abusive spouse. We'll make a big deal over it but deep down we want to burn the place down ourselves just so we can move on with our lives.
To be honest, 4chan has already changed quite a lot, even during the 11 years when moot was admin.
Of course change is inevitable. I am all for change as long as they are tolerable.
A lot of people applauded 4chan because there are no accounts, and is considered more "free" than other online communities.
I will probably continue to browse 4chan as long as I live. Unless it becomes too stifling like Reddit or Facebook.
4chan has been kill for a while. it was good while it lasted
The whole anonymity is what I like most about this place, no bullshit about registering for shit just plane and simple posting, there's no namefagging like there is on places like Reddit and doesn't have the same retarded upvoting system and most importantly Moot does not sell our private information to companies to make himself or others richer. He and this place are truly a bastion of free speech which is slowly being robbed from the internet.
Congrats Moot, you had a great 11 years, I just hope the new admins don't fuck up and decide to make this place more corporate and capitalize on us.
Here's to you as it's been a great ride:
How many times has 4chan 'died' now?
And we're all still here.
>You faggots are tripping over nothing.
>60 seconds between posts implemented to reduce flooding
>captcha integrated to reduce spam generated from bots
>4chan passes for $20/year introduced to enable the privilege of paying money to remove the above feature
>forced trips on certain boards
>new, experimental captcha that is easier to use is integrated
We've complained about a lot, but we're still here.
Even this wouldn't be so bad as long as it was based on an antiquated design.
Registering for accounts in the 90s/early 2000s:
>e-mail address required
Registering for accounts in this day & age:
>e-mail address required
>legal full name required
>date of birth required
>home address required
>phone number required
>connection to Facebook/Twitter/Linkedin sometimes required
>scan of two pieces of ID sometimes required
It's too fucking convoluted.
You know the idiot mods who didn't ever BROWSE /a/?
The ones who had us literally CHEERING for Accel-spammer?
Those guys now have ABSOLUTE POWER.
I'd say this is pretty fucking bad.
>You will wake up tomorrow and check the catalog as usual. And nothing will have changed.
It very much is the problem. It may not be *your* problem, but it is a huge problem that is prevalent.
For instance, you called me a "fucking retard" just now. Since we are on an anonymized system, I can't do anything to you.
If we were on an identity-based system, that would be bad. If you pissed someone off real badly, he or she could make your life hell. With more information being able to be traced back to you, you are left more vulnerable.
I get your point. You want to remain anonymous so you can call me a "fucking retard" without any consequences. I actually want that, too. I am a proponent of free speech, and I believe that you should have the right to say anything you want without any hindrance to your well-being.
So yes, that IS the problem with usernames and registration, "you fucking retard."
>Even this wouldn't be so bad as long as it was based on an antiquated design.
Yes, you idiot, there's a reason we tell tripfags who use it incorrectly to fuck off. It breads attention whoring.
Excuse me, but I was the one who wrote that post, and I know exactly what I meant.
The more convoluted registration becomes, the more weight your words have.
An anonymized system works best because I can say pretty much anything I want, with little to no consequences.
If I say something while using an account that has my personal information tied to it, I would be in for a world of hurt if I happen to offend someone.
You fucking dick.
What the fuck? You have to be misunderstanding something, because nobody in this thread disagrees with you. Your original post just made it sound like the problem with registration is "baww it takes too long" when the problem is that it restricts anonymity like you said.
So, no, a registration system would still be shit even if it was based on an "antiquated design", contrary to your dogshit opinion that registration "wouldn't be so bad" if it's simple as stated in >>120178257
>I said it would be a lesser evil to the alternative.
You did not.
Unbelievable how you'd be upset that people attack you for saying registration wouldn't be so bad. You're the one that made a shitty post that doesn't reflect what you were trying to say in the first place.
Goddamn you're an autist.
I acknowledge that you found difficulty in understanding my post.
If push came to shove, and simple registration was enforced, I might *reluctantly* give into it. I still wouldn't like it, but it would be better than the modern bullshit you see on most sites these days.
I acknowledge that my point did not come across to you clearly. It's a good thing we're anonymous, because you seem steamed.
I hope so, but every time I've seen a site sold it went to shit. I think the new admin will be fine as long as moot owns the place, but the problem is what's next.
If moot's smart and cares about the community, he'd turn 4chan into a nonprofit and give users some say in selecting the mods. But I expect him to cash in, the new owners to ruin it, and the community to disperse, because that's how the internet works.
If I offend someone on the internet and the most info they can dig up on me is my e-mail address, the worst thing that could happen is that I'll get gay porn in my junk mail folder.
If I offend someone while using an account with highly sensitive info attached to it, I am at their mercy. They could publish my name anywhere and tell the world that I am a bad man. And maybe they'll even kick me in the nuts.
I'd rather get gay porn in my junk mail than get kicked in the nuts. I'd prefer neither, but if it came down to it, at least the gay porn is manageable.
I think he actually did start making some profit on it eventually, yeah, though I have no idea how much, I know that running and hosting an affair like 4chan is very expensive, lots of traffic and data going through every day, every hour, every minute, every single second.
>give users some say in selecting the mods
Whenever we have shitty mods, there was only one person to blame: moot.
If the users had any say in mod selection, we'll have thousands of people to blame.
The only time 4chan users argue with each other is to prove whose waifu is better. We don't need any pseudo-political arguments going on.
>The mods are shit, I bet the /d/emocrats were responsible for this mess
>You will wake up tomorrow and check the catalog as usual
And hopefully that goddamned song from the end of evangelion will be gone.
You just keep letting me down letting me down letting me down moot.
Approval voting and supermajority requirements would reduce that effect a ton. 50% is probably a bad idea for exactly that reason - a mod should be respected by the vast majority of the board, not just half.
Just as long as we don't get a "veto everyone" obstructionist clique.
>implying we won't reform elsewhere
Have shichichan and hachichan taught you anything?
Anons aren't helpless. When moot bans a topic the people discussing it make their own damn board, so why do you think we'd act any differently if the whole site went under?
Here are three of the best articles about moot's retirement starting with Techcrunch's interview with moot about his leaving 4chan.
Techcrunch Interviews moot about his quitting:
Washington Post article about 4chan:
Historical notes on 4chan:
For incumbents, lists of mod actions would work. There's already the ban page - link each mod's ban/delete history, redacting anything they actually can't show, and vote for re-election.
For new mods, you have a damn good point and I guess democracy doesn't work online after all.
>moot remains the owner of 4chan
Assuming moot makes any sort of money from 4chan, he probably won't let it go. Hell, he hasn't slammed the door on this place even when he was losing money from it; and if he did, I wouldn't blame him.
People who say that this site is going to stay the same are absolutely delusional. Volunteer mods and a board of directors will ruin this place simply because they are not tied to it and therefore do not care about it. moot stuck with us for this long because it was his own single creaton. Now these new leaders are going to burn this place into the ground (likely by implementing shitty new additions and trying to bring in a larger demographic). They will think of 4chan as a business to profit off of now and nothing else.
Too many libtards and /v/irgins are posting right now. SJWs are spamming threads and doing a victory dance acting like gawker is gonna take over. I want the new mod to put his foot down and remind libtards they are not welcome.
The janitors are fags, but they shouldn't have much power. The mods will be managing the site, and I'm fairly sure most of them care about 4chan, otherwise they wouldn't be mods. Other than Redwood who is apparently gone, do we know of any other undesirable mods? Is Kino still around? Because if he was, we'd be okay.
Whoever becomes admin isn't going to crack down on anything right away because he'll be afraid of people hating him or going against him. It's more likely that nothing will change immediately. After that, who knows what will happen.
It's also fairly likely that there won't be a new admin.
Too many conservtards writing shitty comments like this. /pol/ was the biggest decline in 4chan quality.
I hate stormfags and conservatards
I hate SJW's, liberal fags, and feminists
Because neither can ever shut their fucking mouth, never ever, it's like a pestilence of text.
No. Don't listen to anyone who tells you otherwise, go try making a GG thread there and see what happens. 8/a/ has been slandered to hell and back but it's honestly a decent board, if slow.
That's not exactly true, it is basically GG chan but they are not autists about it and tell you to fuck off if you post about that shit anywhere else. They're basically the same kind of elitism you get from 4chan by saying fuck off to haffchan or fuck off to >>>/v//>>>/pol/ when you shitpost.
>Even this wouldn't be so bad
The only sane way to select the mods is by using an eitochan style system where the mod is tied to the board and the users vote with their feet. Anything else will result in the vote being rigged/flooded with idiots.
What gets me is that this is fixable, we have more than enough anons to bring the speed up but no one wants to take the first step.
Honestly though, it's not actually that slow, compared to any of the other actually dead chans out there 8/a/ is still lightning fast
I love you guys more than you love each other.
>/a/ has the same userbase as /pol/ and /v/
Just because you're a crossboarding shitposter and want to believe that /a/ is the same as those cesspits doesn't mean everyone else is.
If /a/ and /v/ had the same userbase then /a/ would be filled with the same >tfw no girlfriend blog threads as /v/. The fact that there is basically a "no normalfag allowed rule" on /a/ proves you wrong. I'm not saying that there is no crossover, but it's definitely not the same userbase, people don't even argue about the same way. Just look at how /v/ talks about piracy vs /a/'s unambiguous "I don't care".
only butthurt libtards hate /pol/
prove me wrong
also what animes do you watch
> /a/ will still be here. You will wake up tomorrow and check the catalog as usual. And nothing will have changed.
I think that's what we all fear the most.
>/a/ has the same userbase as /pol/ and /v/
Just shut the fuck up, you faggot. /pol/ is the worst board in the entire site because you faggots can't keep your shit out of other boards. At least /b/tards are too retarded to stumble into other boards. You faggots are going to blame SJWs for moot's retirement forever when the fact is that he's leaving because you retards caused him tons of trouble on your own cancerous social justice campaign. That's what you are, a polar image of the same SJWs that you claim to fight. Both are groups of extremist retards that make the rest of the web their battleground and just annoy the shit out of everybody stuck in the middle. Kill yourself.
Why would that be weird? They're 2 of the fastest boards and the posting style is very similar. Do you have this idea that angry racist people can't watch anime, or that /a/ has a lot of liberal posters?
Arguments, moralfags laughing at pirates getting rekt by DRM vs. pirates laughing at anyone who spends money vs. everyone else saying they're both faggots. Just all 'round mad really.
>GG's excuse for a discussion site
>even their fastest board has about the same posts per hour than a single thread on /int/
>this very thread is faster than all but 8 of their boards
>this thread, their boards
Nothing here is going to change for the foreseeable future unless the site is outright sold or the new batch of mods/admins go full vindictive nerdmode on us all.
And even then, even were this site to die, I'd rather just go down with the ship. I've been here for 10 years, there's no substitute for this place and a glorified GG forum isn't even close.
Gundam threads get replies on /a/ though. Just about everything does. In fact, that's the best thing about /a/, is that taste is so diverse among the large userbase that you can discuss pretty much any anime to some extent if you make a thread right. Not everything is going to get 500 replies but there's always someone who'll talk to you.
And I find it absolutely pathetic that you /a/utists are sucking moot's cock when no less than a month ago he had stickied "USUKA" memes on /a/. All he does is post b tier spam here, and you constantly preach about BOARD QUALITY, but when it comes to your precious leader you get emotional and beg for his cum. Do you have any idea how pathetic that is? He hates you and you're too retarded to realize it. Not /pol/, not /v/, he hates YOU and he sold you down the river.
>the posting style is very similar
It's not at all. Have you ever browsed any of the boards? Just because the boards are both fast doesn't mean the userbase is the same. If anything, that implies the opposite since it would be harder for a single person to browse multiple fast boards. /a/ is very isolated from the latest 4chan memes and drama which makes it quite different from the other fast boards.
>Do you have this idea that angry racist people can't watch anime, or that /a/ has a lot of liberal posters?
>the political spectrum is composed of liberals, and their opponents, racists
>there are no others, there is no gray area, all politics are 100% binary
/a/ is one of the most dependent, oversensitive boards on 4chan. any change to the things they cling to as "givens" results in massive emotional distress
it's why they prefer the fish-in-a-barrel "relationship" they can pretend to have with their waifus over the unpredictability of real world interactions
Well /a/ has been pretty shit for a while, the only reason I come here is because otherwise I'd be behind on current events. No better place than 4chan to see what's going on in the weeaboo community.
I think a big change that will probably happen as soon as moot hands the reins over is someone will enable audio in webms. Moot has been the only vocal opponent of it.
>Another /pol//12-4chan shilling/tumblr shitposting thread.
I hope these die down soon and be once again contained to /v/ and /pol/.
>isn't the point of /a/ to have fun?
>/a/ is very isolated from the latest 4chan memes and drama which makes it quite different from the other fast boards.
At least someone gets it. You're alright, anon.
/a/'s saving grace that has kept it's quality from hitting rock bottom like /v/ did is how divided it is, so there's no hivemind.
I'm honestly delighted that /v/ hates "weebs" and shitpost at people who post anime images. That just keeps more of those fags out of /a/.
This, /pol/'s memes are rightwing because that's what offends the most, not because they all love nazis. Anyone who tries to set up a right/left wing split against them and other boards is delusional.
Yeah, if it took off I'd be all for 8ch, that's really the only barrier is lack of users.
Just depends on what happens to /a/.
Do you seriously think shitposting is the only way to have fun?
This is why no one likes you, /v/-kun.
How do we make /a/ fun while not making it newfag friendly? I'm sick of the boring threads, the worst part is I can't even leave, im here forever.
My suggestion? You should loosen up a little, you only have to be elitist pricks to newfags. Make OC. Contribute to the site, but don't be too much of an asshole.
I've been here for years anon.
>Blame saberfags for forcing it
Please no. I'm personally closer to a rinfag than any other type-moon girl, but that was just a handful of shitposting retards. Saberfags never post that crap.
moot was a faggot, and I mean that. I really don't like him, he's a moron that did a bunch of stupid shit, not to mention he's a wannabe normie.
But he was like the dried cum that kept this place stuck together. Things will never be the same here without him.
I bet this is going to be the last straw for a lot of people. Whoever the new admin(s) is, it's bound to rub some people the wrong way. And they'll leave. Other chans will spring up, and preexisting chans will get bigger. I'm sure there will be people who stay here, but not everyone.
And anyone who tries to say this isn't a big deal or that things won't change is a moron. When other chans have gone up and been made, it's been because of stupid petty e-drama, so of course they didn't have a huge effect on the site. Something like this, a change of ownership and administration, has obviously never happened. This is a turning point in the entire site's culture, for better or for worse. From now on 4chan's history will be defined as "moot" and "post-moot". In a few years, you'll see threads where people talk about being here when moot was here, and deriding the "post-moot" newfags. I'm sure 4chan will still be around for years, but it will never be the same again. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing remains to be seen.
Having said all that:
It's been real niggas. I hate you all, and love you all. Every faggot on every board. Shitposters of every stripe. I'll always remember this place, and won't forget about you.
Just throwing it out there, /pol/ is ban on site at 8/a/, regardless of what the idiots who come over here and spam want to tell you.
This. We might have to leave someday but for now I think the ship isn't sinking just yet.
That's good to hear then. The last kuma thread I was in it was pretty rampant.
>if somebody posts something retarded, they deserve that kind of response
Depends on your definition of retarded, I guess.
Fuck off. No one wants your shit site.
I might love you too, I don't know, maybe we should get to know each other first?
I'm worried. One of the things that came out of the /forfree/ shit was that there's a community manager responsible for training and managing the mods, who has presumably been given the reigns in full now.
It was fucking Rapeape
It's (probably) an allegory about how Japanese society treats homosexuality. Of course, not every single detail is 100% clear at this point.
I just meant if somebody shitposts something stupid like "it doesn't make sense" without explaining what exactly they don't understand.
>Depends on your definition of retarded, I guess.
Only someone that posts retarded shit would ever say this.
MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.. Well shit.
>And nothing will have changed.
And it never will.
>I blame fucking moot for bringing in all these crossies
He destroyed the containment board for 'fun', this was always going to happen.
I wish /pol/ would leave. Please just go, your board's unfucked now, you don't have to stay.
Even just choosing to make a post on /a/ and get 1k replies, or changing the board title and adding music has attracted all these people. I think if you graphed the usage of the word libtard on /a/ it would have massively spiked today.
What is this screenshot supposed to show?
That they want to make an alternative to this site that isn't dead in the water, and want to make it better to attract more people? Wow, how dare they.
It still has IDs. I refuse to post on a board that doesn't respect anonymous culture. Besides, I'm watching 20 shows this season and there's not much in the world of happening.
Cripplepaste is a retard, but the /a/ mods are alright. Better than here (the good mods are gone).
The problem was that this was a post on /meta/ by an overexcited /v/irgin, where they decided it would be 'helpful' to spam that stupid COME TO INFITITY picture all over the place, making everyone think 8/a/ supported it. I hate them with a burning passion, they quite possibly screwed the only real chance we had to finally set up a new fast /a/ board. Now 8ch is on the same level as anontalk in the eyes of most of the userbase, shit sucks.
There's one onepiece mod that vehemently bans any criticism of onepiece.
I know because I have been banned couple of times. And have seen him ban bunch others. He babbies OnePiece thread like no tomorrow.
Literally the only issue I have with /a/ mods.
I post here for my large board needs and on a smaller chan when I want a cozy place where everybody knows my name.
It's worked for awhile, and it's not like 4chan is going anywhere. No doubt it will get more shitty, but that is the case whether or not moot is here.
He talked about the ideology of it in public discussions of it. He didn't come on the boards and start whining constantly about the evils of the system and how he was taking a stand against them.
4chan is imploding on its own. Every time I think 8shit is about to die, another shitstorm happens here. I'm not saying this to shill for it, the site should have died again a month after gamergate but shit just keeps blowing up.
Explain why you think this means I should be satisfied with forced tripfagging.
>meguca is way too cliquey. I won't fit in.
Same. It's fun during r/a/dio threads, but 8 feels like a slower version of the same thing. With all the shitposting and culture that comes along with it.
Why would anyone leave already? Nothing has changed yet.
You're seriously declaring 4chan KIA before we've even had a Q&A with moot to figure out what's going to happen next?
It wasn't finances, I really think it's because he ended up feeling like an outsider, he was totally out of touch with /a/ towards the end, and all the other boards for that matter. He's still only human.
I hope he doesn't kill himself or something
Yeah I think it's probably at least worth a look.
I just got into meguca a few weeks back. Doesn't seem too bad to me. They have some nice discussion and seemed welcoming.
Moe tried to kick me out when I posted lewd once though.
I bought a 4chan pass twice and use it to shitpost at him.
I might renew if things change with him gone and the new admins are good. Otherwise I won't bother and go to 8 in november. It is more slow but I will have more time to watch anime.
>It is more slow but I will have more time to watch anime
I thought this at first, what actually happened was I ended up opening ~30 threads in parallel, in doing so I still have an active set of threads overall. Previously, browsing /a/ meant opening a single thread and reading that, maybe 1-3 of them per day.
Well yeah, nobody said the board would disappear. But the last safeguard is gone and the usual cycle of nepotism will begin. 4chan has, at most, three years remaining before the administration staff implodes.
Most of the bullshit in the last year hasn't affected /a/ though, at least not yet. /a/ may be on the decline but it's still a serviceable platform for anime discussion and easily the best place for anime discussion in the west. Not to mention possibly being the best board on the site right now.
Been here since 2002, 12 years is a long time, but I was glad to visit the site, even though I don't post as much as I used to. This site is like part of me growing up. Fuck I'm such a weeb.
/moe/ isn't so bad as long as you can get over the fact that some of them throw fits over lewd images.
Both moe and meguca are much much smaller than anything you'll find on 4chan though. It's a completely different experience. Small boards are good in addition to /a/, but they aren't good replacements.
>But the last safeguard is gone and the usual cycle of nepotism will begin
I never actually thought about that, but you're right for as stubborn as he was with the userbase he was the same with the mods, nothing they said could ever influence him. It could end badly, as I recall the senior community manager was Rapeape, so we're in for a fun time.
>there are other /a/s out there even if 4chan goes down.
This single moderately fast off-topic thread is faster than any given one of them, and faster than almost all of them combined.
I browse about 20 threads here at a given time, and even that is slowish for me. Each one of those threads is faster than entire boards elsewhere.
That and there's no AppchanX-alike that I know of that works on other chans. I'm too comfy here, far too comfy.
>they are too slow
If 4chan actually dies, they'll speed up.
What? You think any of us fags will actually quit and go on with our lives? There is no escape, anon, for any of us.
I don't see how /a/ isn't kill.
All the oldfags left this site back in like 2009 anyways and has been replaced by a steady supply of redditors since. Moot gave up years ago, this is just him officially giving up. I would be interested to see how many people have stuck through with this site after all these years.
Pretty certain he isn't selling it, he's just not running it at all.
I think even moot knows that there aren't very many people who can be trusted to be the "owner" of the site, and I'm willing to bet that not many of the those trustworthy, competent people even want to potentially be publicly associated with this site.
I give 4chan another 10 or 15 years, when the current generation of administrating mods will want to move on, and then the site will either actually face extinction or be unusably shit for the people who regulared here pre-2008/people who actually understand 4chan's culture and what makes it good.
Unless you like having conversations with yourself, none of them will ever be fast enough to be able to efficiently waste every day of your life browsing them 24/7 like /a/ is. They're too slow to consume your life by being massive time wasters, which means we'll be forced to do other stuff on a daily basis.
Exactly. My fear isn't in the board suddenly dropping tomorrow. It's in a repeat of the downfall of SA, with a slow takeover of the administration staff (or a coup that takes mere minutes, happens) by replacing outgoing members with friends and cohorts. Soon they have enough cronies to do what they want with impunity and they simply mold 4chan as they see fit. Facebook integration, the end of anonposting, anything.
That's what scares me.
I want to know if these people will have a face or will they be completely anonymous and have no presence. I think 4chan will die if it's the latter since all the bad blood will just build up and lead to more and more shitposting. Mods should be anonymous but there is so much shit right now someone also needs to fix the relationship with the userbase before it pops.
My point was you, I, and everyone else here will go there to try it out, either out of habit or desperation, and it'll slowly but surely make its way back to 4chin status. Even if we have to endure the slow migration process for a month or so.
Again, this place would have to die first though, /a/ is stubborn enough to hang around even if their chair was on fire.
m8, everything has changed.
This isn't some stupid e-drama that pops up once a year where people swear off 4chan and go to another chan for a few minutes before coming back (e.g. /b/ day, chanology, /pol/ and /r9k/ being deleted, gamergate, etc.) moot is leaving. 4chan will continue to exist, but 4chan as you know it is dead.
>you, I, and everyone else here will go there to try it out, either out of habit or desperation, and it'll slowly but surely make its way back to 4chin status
I went there out of desperation and the first thing I saw on their /a/ was how Attack on Titan was a masterpiece and how we hate it because we're "anime pros"
That and their haffchan meme makes me deeply mistrust what's clearly an undercurrent of faggotry that might not ever get fixed.
>/a/ is stubborn enough to hang around even if their chair was on fire
I don't know about you but I'm going down with the ship. Better to die a true Roman than live as a Byzantine Greek, if you catch my drift.
>/a/ is stubborn enough to hang around even if their chair was on fire.
I know this is off topic, but does anyone have the image of the neckbeard closing his blinds while the third impact is happening?
As long as we can keep our anonymity, this site will always have something you can't really get anywhere else. Especially with everyone wanting to integrate their Facebook with their Instagram with their yelp etc etc. 4chan is one of the few places you have to actually read a post at face value instead of judging it off a profile picture, post count or upvotes. The day we get any sort of registration system is the day it is really all over
>and the first thing I saw on their /a/ was how Attack on Titan was a masterpiece and how we hate it because we're "anime pros"
Yeah I saw that post too, but it got deleted. Bad luck seeing that as your first experience I guess, it's not normally like that, the past day has seen a lot of shitposting.
Moot has barely been a presence here for years. Calm the fuck down and stop spamming the front page with your metashit
Yes it's sad he's gone, but it was inevitable. I'm honestly impressed he endured for this long. Being the admin of 4chan is a pretty huge burden.
You're either new or don't remember what it was like browsing pre-2010. And don't browse any of the slower boards.
Some of these alternative chans have boards with faster post rates than what we had here back then.
I have a 4chan pass
Welcome to something 4chan - population you!
Maybe one of the "few senior volunteers" moot mentioned will step up/be chosen as the "face of 4chan".
Then again, Steve Jobs once retired from running Apple, then came when he felt like things were being too badly fucked up.
It's entirely possible that if the people running this site start to turn to actual shit after a few years, moot will come out of retirement and run things for another 5 years or so until he can find replacements that will make this site last forever.
Or so I tell myself.
>it'll slowly but surely make its way back to 4chin status
Maybe 30% of /a/ at most will go to 8ch/a/
Another 30% will be split and go off to other random chans like 420chan and dozens of other similar sites
20% will kill themselves
and the last 20% will move on with their lives
If 4chan dies, it's population will shatter and go in a million different directions
They will end up in the same state as those that stayed behind on SA, and continue to subsist like that for many years to come.
I think Anon was meaning more in terms of if the site flatly shut down tomorrow or something.
I always like to imagine that the internet will collapse into a state of anarchy once 4chan dies.
But that's a pipe dream and I know that I will never be able to take anybody with me once shit finally hits the fan.
It took me a solid 10 minutes to find this.
Apparently my main amassed images folder is at 2700+ images since 2010 when my old computer imploded.
>moot is going to sell us to some company and become the new Zuckerberg
It was a fun ride.
I'm sorry but
I just checked that 4+4 site out. If shit goes down here why don't we create our own /a/ there? I mean their /a/ might be filled with fucking /v/ so we could do our own board there ? Just give control to Daiz or something so everything will be in good hands.
>Just give control to Daiz or something so everything will be in good hands.
This was all part of tanelis plan to gain dominion over /a/. He forced moot to resign.
The /a/ mods are pretty good and responsive to shitposting. It's just the board that's too slow and smells like /v/. If 8ch ever got more popular it'll probably devolve into more meta drama considering how easy it is to divide boards too and split off.
I think 2^3chan's two biggest failings are that it's basically an entire containment chan for /v/ and /pol/, and the fact that literally anyone can do some reddit-tier drama shit and set up a new board because they got buttblasted. It's a recipe for complete disintegration, and certainly not a successor.
I'm scared. I might just have to become an adult.
I love to be the cartel. It's true though that he's behind the moot drama. You just need to look into it further.
I asked only under the assumption that this place goes down completely due to incompetency of the mod team. And of course it won't. Things never stay the same.
If the posting quality was better I wouldn't mind a slower board tbh.
>It's true though that he's behind the moot drama. You just need to look into it further.
>and the fact that literally anyone can do some reddit-tier drama shit and set up a new board because they got buttblasted
I thought this at first, but the fact is it simply doesn't happen. There was one time I recall that a board got sick of its mods, and in the space of a few hours had entirely migrated to a different board, but there was only ever one instance of that. Anons tend to stay put unless there's something seriously wrong with the mods, everyone has a very strong bias against balkanisation, both here and over there. Keep in mind, 8ch has been ticking along for the past 5 months now, I'm convinced at this point it's going to be a permanent fixture of the web, or at least for many years to come.
wait what's the logic behind this? So what if someone makes drama and makes a new board if he can't grow a user base because he's the one doing the drama. Places that contain discussion don't disintegrate that easily I think though I could use some examples if it's as easy as you say. I mean I see alternatives there for their shitty /v/ board but they are basically trafficless.
Must be some insane mod drama to cause a massive shift like you say.
It's true! I even heard he somehow supported the cripple few weeks back!
No really he did. But I'd have to look into it myself.
pls show me more I need to see proof of this! What's his plan? He already killed moot is the cripple next?
I'm giving my honest opinion, I really hate how everything is labelled 'shill' these days, I legitimately think it's our best bet for a replacement board, IF we could actually go there as a group. The site guarantees good moderation that reflects the community, it's the best system for a chan I know of so far.
The only difference about this is that m00t is finally gone. That's what people can't handle.
They claim that the mods are SJW and want to make a safe space but I don't care.
If they try to fucking take away my lolis again though I will shitpost this place to hell and earth and leave if they don't go back on it. Mark my words.
The day this site goes down, is the day I actually off myself, anon. No matter how successful, or how much my life improves until then, I'll do it. And I'll do it so that all the anons of old can see it, because that's what m00t would've wanted.
The site itself doesn't have any reason to go down. Only the userbase could change due to different management of the mod team. As long as the shekel pass sells the money keeps on going into their hands.
MOOT IS RETIRING!
Nothing s going to change at least immediately on 4chan.
I didn't say it did. I'm just saying, that on the day this place does finally close it's doors, I'll be walking right out with it. I cannot leave this place, no matter how bad it gets.
Were you not entertained enough with shitposting in /pol/? Don't you have some fucking sticky on your shitty 7-chan clone?
When you say it like you're not a part of /a/ we don't give a shit. /pol/ you cannot come in here and expect us to listen to you when you're acting like a self-righteous prick, even if you actually are right about something.
>tfw there will be no more bros to feel with once 4chan goes down
>tfw my support for living will be gone
>tfw my world will be ending
Just ingore and report them, they still think they're in good company; like they'll someday be able to make everyone "wake up". The rest of the site isn't like /pol/, but /v/ and /pol/ itself can't understand that.
I'm glad I'm finally learning Japanese.
Maybe by the time 4chan dies I'll be proficient enough to just migrant to futaba.
It'll never be the same though ;_;
I'm not glad, that just means there's no safety valve for Rapeape and Redwood anymore, this place was a mootocracy, now you have all those same control structures all in place but a different person at the helm, the site is going to change there's no doubt about that.
This is the only place I feel like I belong. I am screwed when 4Chan dies.
It's so painfully easy to spot you guys, it isn't even worth getting riled up over. Regardless, what I say is the truth. The only thing that would stop me, is if I somehow ended up accidentally dying, or being murdered.
I know, I'm really just bitter because I view them as the prime reason everything went to shit, the ones that convinced everyone that 8/a/ was somehow a /pol/ effort, causing everyone to adopt the mentality of going down with the ship. Now it's more likely than ever that we'll be locked into this site as it begins its slow slide under Rapeape, because everyone is now resistant to the idea of rebuilding /a/ offsite.
>It's so painfully easy to spot you guys
There's nothing to 'spot'
You are a melodramatic edgelord teenager who is considering ending his life over an internet hangout for teenagers. You might as well be killing yourself over habbo hotel or club penguin. You are a little fucking baby who needs to grow up and stop stewing in angst.
We need our own fucking Outer Heaven already.
I don't mind the first two, mainly because I don't need someone recommending doujinshi to me. Hentaifu was never appealing, mainly because most hentai is fucking terrible to look at. I'm all for the threads being around though, I just wouldn't miss them.
If you're not the least bit bothered by the idea of this place disappearing completely, then you're the one that doesn't belong you fucking retard. I love your superb use of buzzwords to cake your post, so as to really drive that point home! Go fuck yourself, you fucking shitlord.
Kimo broke his back protecting this board, but his inner anon got the better of him. The remaining moderators and janitors have no idea how this board works, and it's also because of Kimo's autistic obsession with the quality of this specific board.
If we increase our spiritual energy we can ascend to infinite bliss, love and happiness. We are one through the collective-consciousness.
/a/, I know all the secrets to the universe now, and I know you do too.
Applies to me too. Fuck.
8 is quite a bit different though. 3-8 was just scientology shit, 8 is like 4 back when it had /l/ and /guro/, but now also with /i/.
It's also difference a difference in governing. The former was a traditional imageboard with top-down control of boards, the latter lets anyone start boards and has almost no top-down moderation from the domain admins. In other words, it can function semi-autonomously even if the owner goes AFK, so long as funds keep up and the bill is paid. If there's a demand for a new board, it can be created.
Yeah, I realized this while spending my 23rd birthday alone, watching animu and shitposting in this board with the lights out.
Then I considered the fact that I've *never* invited anyone to my birthday, not even as a child. Even in school I never went over to anyone's houses.
There will be many splinter group if /a/ dies on 4ch.
I suppose the first place to flock would be archive and irc.
>Daiz will run new replacement if 4ch goes down
>He will name it
