I guess somehow for some reason Kureha needs to get eaten by Ginko and Lulu in order for her love to grow stronger.

The other bears are instead getting in the way of her love somehow.
>>
So I decided to watch episode 1 on a whim and boy was that tough to watch. This shit is just so absurd, and it's obviously not meant to be taken seriously but holy fuck.
>>
>>120078368
>>120078672

I was a bit disappointed with just so seemingly and narrowly obvious it's seemed to have become with this episode, actually. I mean, there's little imagination left for the "Invisible Storm," now, it seems.

Is the the Invisible Storm just the student body-led process of ostracization for the time being?
>>
>>120078888
Is there only one class in the entire school? If there are more classes, there's probably different "Number Ones".
>>
So how long until Mitsuko rapes Kureha in her house late at night during a storm?
>>
>>120078672
Yeah , i'm getting really tired of this show's shit. You don't have to do extensive plot exposition, but this show makes no fucking sense. I mean , stuff like this >>120078888
can be understood but pretty much everything else is a dumb surreal mess. I was waiting to see if i could understand it but i think i'm finally realizing that there's nothing to understand, the show is just bad.
>>
>>120078942
Kureha's classroom is the only one that matters.

Kureha is the only one who matters. (Anyone not her, or Ginko or Lulu, are likely to get Kuma Shocked and offed.)

We never saw the classrooms that Utena wasn't in herself, right?
>>
>>120078888
Seems like it is a form of organized ostracization and bullying.

In episode1 someone decapitated all the lilies and it was said it was the work of the "invisible storm". I suppose it's called "invisible" because the hostile actions are not done openly but behind the back of the victims.
>>
>>120078368

>>
>>120079073
Valid point. So then, that would mean that Kureha and Sumika had express knowledge that their classmates were behind the Invisible Storm.

I'm eagerly waiting for all those idiots to eat their words when there will be huge revelations and every pieces will start to fit together.
>>
I'm getting the feeling that Ginko and Lulu might be the personification of Kureha's "bear" (lusting for lesbian sex) inside of her.
>>
>>120079141
Yes, one is to assume everybody in class knew what the invisible storm was and that Kureha and Sumika were very well aware they were being ostracized and at the risk of becoming officially excluded in an Exclusion Ritual or whatever the fuck that was called.
>>
>>120079181
>>120079163
That's my point, there isn't anything to understand. t's just a bunch of retarded "DEEP SYMBOLISM" mixed up and vomited to the audience
>>
>>120079040
>>120079040
It's really not that hard to understand.

Yuri Kuma Arashi (ユリ熊嵐, "Yuri Bear Storm") is an allegory for the plight faced by homosexuals in contemporary Japanese society. Despite a kind and loving composure, society still doesn't believe homosexual love is "real", consequently the girl's love constantly needs to be tested.

The Invisible Storm refers to being ostracized by the group.

The phantasmagorical fantasy sequences are symbolic of how fantasy is always great than reality, and how the romance Kureha felt for Sumika will always be more limpid and sonorous in her mind, where it will now forever remain. It is true that the people concerned in anime are not what we would call 'real people.' But none of the feelings which the joys or misfortunes of a 'real' person awaken in us can be awakened except through a mental picture of those joys or misfortunes; and the ingenuity of the first writer or director lay in his understanding that, as the picture was the one essential element in the complicated structure of our emotions, so that simplification of it which consisted in the suppression, pure and simple, of 'real' people would be a decided improvement.

I wish I could've seen /a/'s threads if it existed during Utena.

>>120079294
>it's just a show that expresses many of its themes using symbols instead of explicit narrative
There's no reason to act as if using symbols is a bad thing. It sounds like you're just angry because you expected something incredibly deep and got a show with simple themes.

Maybe not necessarily-- they could have vague notions of it, by happening to not have been around for repeated instances of the "voting," or maybe they fear something even more sinister and less transparent is at work.

I mean, surely there's more to the Invisible Storm than just student-body-led ostracization right?

Surely.

(Geez, this show's been wearing its thematic points so heavily on its sleeves.)

Well it's obviously something about yuri. Is it so simple that the theme is be true to your desires? Are some girls bears and others not, showing that you are predestined to your fate of being an open or closet lesbian? Are men actually lesbians (that guy made me laugh)? The overall idea of the theme might be simple, but until the show is over these multiple interpretations can all exist.

That could be a funeral for virginity and the parts not eaten of Akae could have been stuff she wore like her headband

They could go either way.

Maybe bears are just people that have been eaten? In other words non-virgins? That seems to go against the initial story of magic space rock but perhaps bears are people that have had sex. Because perverts are condemned and monstrosized and yuri love is often seen in Japan as a pure and sexless love at times which enables those in the school to remain humans and non-bears

I'll have to rewatch the episodes though as I've already forgotten stuff.
>>
>>120079763
>is just a bunch of angry lesbians

Hmmm, no as far as I can tell the invisible storm is about a bunch of homophobic girls.
>>

>>
>>120079788
I don't think you need to interpret it that hard- you pretty much hit it. Another part of it may be whether you indiscriminately desire others or only go for one person.

Then there's the weird part where bears must eat to survive, but won't necessarily eat indiscriminately. Is the Invisible Storm to protect them against bears, or is it designed to make an easy target for the bears? What if everyone decides to be invisible- will the hidden bears force someone out? There's still a lot to think about.
>>
>>120079869
However, they stick together and get eaten, at least since Ginko and Lulu transferred in.
Hopefully the deaths amongst themselves will cause panic and intrigue and split them apart.

Might the Invisible Storm try to exclude people based on something else, though, or other things? Maybe not (just) homophobia? Though it seems fairly obvious, they've not made deliberate mention of what they're excluding Sumika *for*, or how she's so much *different* (and therefore "evil") that she needs to be excluded for it.

He means that even if a you feel real love or hate or something towards a person or thing, you don't need a real person or thing to trigger that love or hate, a mere picture, or simplification is enough, and that's where the ingenuity of the creator of a piece of art lies.

It's saying that when you see somebody and feel any emotion, those emotions are awakened solely through the mental picture your brain is constructing of them.

Because of that, those same emotions can be awakened through constructing the mental picture by any means, you don't need a real person in front of you to do it. If an artists or a writer or whatever does it, it's exactly the same in terms of what your brain is experiencing than if you're seeing a real person in front of you.

The thing I notice is that when Sumika and Kureha talk about their relationship they always use the word "好き" "suki". Which can mean "love" but it can also be used as "love" in a purely friendly sense.

They don't use the word "愛" "ai", love in a clearly romantic sense. or "恋" "koi", love in a more sexual sense.

Ginko is definitely saying "delicious smell".
Bears have a very developed sense of smell, they were able to smell every single girl in the classroom simply from their position when they were introduced.
>>

Apparently, it could also be just "delicious mel."

Asenshi-Subs said in their page for episode 2 that "mel" is Latin for honey. SO IT'S A PUN, ISN'T THAT FUN

Kureha represents persistence in the face of great adversity. Because Kureha will "never give up on love", he ass represents doubt and turning her ass around represents her slaying her own doubt. It is then that love guides her bullet (hints the title, Yuri Love Bullet), and strikes all those that oppose her love.

That isn't Sumika, and here is why: Mitsuko would've recognized who they were eating here. She knows Sumika very well and knew she was missing. She would've known her instantly. She didn't. It will turn out that was some nameless, faceless member of the Invisible Storm.
>>
>>120080775

Okay so basically

The school is a safe place for delicate young girls to be "friends", but if you cross that line you get eaten by Bears. However the Bears only go after people who are alone, and the student body chooses who to ostracize. This means they're essentially pushing people into being eaten by Bears.

What this actually means is that anyone who tries to be gay is isolated and forced out, socially excluded and ignored by the conservative culture. I guess you could extrapolate this to argue that nobody's actually been killed by Bears, they're just being ignored by everyone and left the school to go have wild lesbian sex at bars or forced to transfer by their parents or something else.

To be honest I wouldn't put too much emphasis on their choice here.
Suki is very much your standard way of making your affections known regardless of it being an exclamation of philia, sorge or eros.
Especially early on in a relationship, going all aishiteru on your partner would feel rather overbearing and artificial.
Although I'm not sure how long those two had been dating at this point. Teenagers throwing around ai and koi would still feel like Romeo and Juliet levels of foolishness and impulsiveness. If they want to showcase Kureha's love as the real deal and not just a phase it feels more natural not to go overboard with the wording here.
>>
>>120081657
>it's clear that the "arashi" part of YKA is a reference to that book.
It's also a reference to Kuma Arashi, a book narrating the Sankebetsu brown bear incident.
>>
>>120081778

The person who was eaten this ep was gay too, so it's poetic justice. Ringo and Lulu are different from the other bears, they seem to be protecting Kureha for some reason.
>>
>>120081818
It even has transformation scenes.

So can we all agree that the two bears seen in episode 1 were Mitsuko and Konomi?

This all sounds very pretty but doesn't really make any of the (what looks like) symbolism in the show consistent or clear or even appropriate, not in your explanation on its own anyhow.

Some folks will rage over it being obscure regardless but the point is that despite that overarching theme of conformity, denial and sexual "deviance", the more important metaphors and symbols are still pretty vague so far, frustratingly so sometimes. Kind of like your explanation.

So piecing everything together.
>Mitsuko has a preference for girls that are not "invisible". To her they taste a lot better.
>Mitsuko finds out that Kureha and Sumika are in a forbidden relationship, they are not invisible! Suddenly she feel the urge to eat them.
>The invisible storm happens, someone decapitates all the lilies that Sumika and Kureha were growing. We know that Mitsuko wants the invisible storm to happen. She might have sent someone to do the dirty job, or maybe she did it herself.
>Mitsuko uses that chance to befriend Sumika and Kureha, she shows herself as someone that understand them and support them, while in reality she is probably the one behind the invisible storm.
>Mitsuko eats Sumika. As she later said, she enjoyed her meal very much, however it seems that she is looking mostly forward to eat Kureha. Kureha must really be a very delicious treat for bears. Most likely Mitsuko wants Kureha to offer herself to her.
>Now that Sumika is taken off of the picture Mitsuko proceeds with her plan to ensnare Kureha in her web even more.
>With the help of Konomi she stages a bear assault against Kureha. Kureha faints and then Mitsuko brings them to the infirmary.
>Mitsuko realizes that there are two other bears feasting in her territory and she isn't pleased. The two bears are also evidently after the same delicious treat she is after (Kureha) so she tries to drive them away with a gun.
>Mitsuko in order to make Kureha fall for her even more doesn't stop in front of anything and mercilessly kills Konomi while she was assaulting Kureha out of Jealousy. Mitsuko thinks of nothing of friendship, Konomi served her better by dying by her hands at that point.
>Mitsuko wants to weaken Kureha even more and she makes it so she gets selected during the exclusion ceremony. The real "invisible storm" happens. Now Mitsuko is officially ostracized.
>Mitsuko finally decides it's time to reveal her true colors to Kureha and openly attacks her.

Konomi was technically part of the invisible storm since she was keeping her identity secret. Just like how Mitsuko was still in it even after she ate Sumika.

This show has really lost me in this episode.

Student Prez says she killed Sakura. She even had proof.

Problem is, she walked in into Ginko and Lulu eating someone behind the flowerbed. Also, we had almost certainty that that corpse was Sumika because she had the same socks.

Also, what does eating Tsubaki have to do about Ginko's love? And what's the point of the trial?

It's really quite simple, anon. Yuri Kuma is (trying) to show that the self-interested and self-sufficient individual remains the ideal, in which the centering of rational choice and a capacity of transcendence both occludes group-based harms of systemic oppression and conceals the complicity of individuals in the perpetuation of systemic injustices.

People guessed that the penguindrum was the apple that she pulled out in episode/the brothers' shared destiny. And while we didn't know exactly what seizon senryaku was, we could ascertain that she was taking something from Kanba and it was a method for the Princess to communicate with the brothers.
>who the red haired bitch with her own penguin was
We knew that she was some former relation of Kanba, and that's not the same as not knowing what's going on with this show. You could ascertain after the first episode what the brothers' end game was that the PotC was trying to use the brothers to change destiny. Characters had a clear motivation and the over arching plot of both Utena and Penguindrum was clear from the beginning. With this one, I don't get the bears motivation. The only one that has any clear motivation so far is Kureha, but even hers is muddled so far.

>mfw the courtroom scene every episode
At least zettai unmei mokushiroku and rock over japan were exciting and pretty hype to watch no matter how repetitive they got. The judges are just annoying and it feels shoe-horned and too jarring unlike the other ones which actually flowed with their respective episodes.
>>
>>120086048
/a/ has a history of worshiping background characters. The fact that she has a name is already a lot.
>>
>>120086220
Those scenes seem to be very metaphorical even in the context of the story.
>>
>>120086574
I miss Seizon Senryaku too. This one just doesn't have the same life.

That's butterfly-chan. Kaoru's surname is 針島, which means Needle Island.

You mean Kureha, right?

Am I the only one completely unsurprised that Lulu and Ginko turned out to be benevolent characters who only eat Invisible Storm fascists? Come on, there was no way they'd have been able to win the Kurehabowl otherwise.
>>
>>120086828
yeah...>>120086848
>>
>>120086437
I know they ate her. I just thought it was relevant to point out that they were already talking about her disappearance in episode 2. If it weren't for that classroom shot, we'd have no way of knowing whether they were talking about Katyusha or the other invisible girl.

It also proves that girls from other classes get eaten too, which might seem obvious using common sense, but from a story telling point of view not so much. I was assuming up till now that all of the bear action would stay confined to their class.

Not that relevant, but we've pretty much run out of things to talk about, so might as well start picking on details.
>>
Nigga I am pretty sure these girls are really getting fucking eaten by bears, metaphors my ass
>>
>>120086888
No, I don't think many people are surprised. I actually originally thought they ate Sumiko because she was somehow lying to Kureha or using her or something, hence Ginko's line about destroying love. I feel like I almost would have preferred that to be the case if not only for the fact Sumiko is progressively becoming a worse character with each episode.

Any idea on this case? Besides she being an unimportant offscreen character, only being there to point out how Sumika and Kureha differ from invisible girls?
>>
>>120086574
I have to agree. They should have put some more effort into making is some pretty to look at and nice to listen to like ZUM and SS were.
>>
>>120087118
You never heard of strap-on dildo?
>>
I was so glad they changed up the sequence this time. I was just about ready to give up on trying to understand the court shit until this episode
>>
>>120087197
Like I said, she's not even from their class. Can't get more invisible and irrelevant than that.
>>
>>120087259
I think that it is kind of obvious that the court scene in this episode symbolized her finally getting the balls to shoot that /u/rsine cunt, with the gun coming out between her legs.
>>
>>120087259
Imagine waking up when you were getting eaten by two bears. It would be horrifying
>>
>>120087244
Well SS and ZUM were absolutely fantastic. It's a real pity they couldn't do something as much as awesome.

Point is...you are alive, when they start to eat you...

KUMA SHOCK
>>
>>120087414
That plays a big part, but consider the sequence of SS, it's visually outstanding.
>>

>sumiko
>sumiko

It's Gau... I mean, Sumika.
>>
>>120087074
We always said the eating was literal. That doesn't stop it from being a metaphor for something else though.
>>
>>120087509
>>
>>120087335
>It would be horrifying
Don't you mean shocking?
>>
>>120087645
But the eating of Kureha is metaphorical only, hence why she is still alive and well after being "eaten" three times and counting.
>>
Slowpoking here, but Ginko's bear form is wearing the same star pendant as Kureha's mom, yes?
>>
>>120087743
The Yuri Shounin sequence is a special case which we don't understand very well yet. I'm not even sure if we should be calling that 'eating'.
>>
>>120087885
Can be assumed, there seems to be some connection.

There is some music!
But it's after the court scene. And it's Gounod's Ave Maria, for crying out loud-- something so beautiful and soulful for me that I find it saddening to see it incorporated in such a scene.

They were both sort of the greek chorus of their show, comically commenting on what was happening while still being removed from the characters and actual events. Well, at least until HHH visited Himiwari.
>>
>>120089066
You probably wouldn't be feeling even slightly disoriented if you had watched Utena and Penguindrum. That is to say that you'd recognize every one of Ikuhara's tricks and not let yourself be unsettled when, for example, Kureha falls through the roof and you're transported to a magic courtroom that approves a transformation scene and softcore symbolistic porn to the sound of a song praising the virgin mary.

It wouldn't necessarily help you understand what any of that means though.
>>
>>120089445
But Utena constantly interacts with the Shadow Girls.
>>
>>120089572
To be fair, that only starts in the black rose arc.

>>120089572
It's still a good 2/3 of the series. That being said, I don't think there's anything quite like them in YKA (yet?).
