Obscure anime that aired in your country.
Bonus points if it became a cult hit.
>People in South America thought this was gonna be the next Card Captor Sakura.
It aired a few years in a row during the summer holidays, however they never actually finished airing all the episodes as the holiday wasn't long enough
Bucky was cool as all fuck
This is actually korean.
This little shit is very popular in my country. The series made quotable dirty remarks and punchlines well before Seitokai Yakuindomo.
>>120074004
What a piece of shit that was.
I forget the name, but it has shota and that can transform into a dude by drawing a pentagram.
Another one is Dual Parallel Trouble Adventure.
This masterpiece.

There was another anime that I've been searching for. It was magical girl and it ended with the main girl saving a sleeping prince, also aired in Fox Kids.

Holy shit I need to rewatch this.

To be honest tho, it's based on a very popular children character from Italy. Somehow Japan and Italy have a number of co-produced anime.

This is another one I'd be really surprised if it was recognized, even on /a/, but it used to be FUCKING EVERYWHERE on local tvs in the 80s in Italy. >>120083660
The Sound of Music anime was pretty great, I used to watch that. But well, let's put it that way: Time Bokan was so popular that in Yatterman they started making monster of the week based on the postcards from kids in Japan. Also they made several series with variations of the same antagonists, and recently they made remakes/movies.
Aired aloong that Zorro anime.
Both were damn cool as far as I can remember.Record was fucking awesome back then. Aired Dinosaucers and Sharivan too.

>>120083938
If we're talking about the same Record, didn't they also air a few of Tezuka's least-known anime series too? I think they also tried their hand at the live-action Giant Robo series too.
Not exactly obscure, but very few people actually know this aired in Mexishitstan. They aired it on the last chanel you'd think would air chinese cartoons, at like 3-4 in the morning on saturdays/sundays. It was as if the broadcaster got the rights for this but didn't really wanted to show it so they gave it the worst shift they could find and forgot about it.
>>120083970
It's particularly weird because usually anime here is a daily thing (at least on weekdays), so it was very unusual to have 5 episodes on a single day... and at 2 AM. For something that they probably spent good money on, localizing, dubbing, censoring, and recording a song.

Sanpei is an incredibly interesting show for being something incredibly slow about one of the most incredibly dull activities on earth, all the while keeping it relatively realistic. You really learned a lot about all kinds of fishing, too.
Also, if you consider old series obscure enough, a lot of old folks remember things like Fantomas, Groizer X and 8 Man which aired in Brazil in the 70's/80's. My old man himself is a fan of them three.
Fantomas actually got a DVD release a couple years ago.

Brazil was also great when it comes to the /m/ side. Not so great as France or motherfucking Italy with all the Dynamic Pro stuff, but we had lots of complete series released in VHS (such as Voltes V and Albegas). One of the most beloved was Dorvack, which's so obscure that even /m/ doesn't know it exists.

Lots of Japanese descendants. They'd bring OVAs and full series directly for home video market.
Toku and sentai were very strong for the same reason (at least in Brazil). After the Saint Seiya boom (which was the first anime explosion in the 90s) the market got saturated. After Pokemon and DBZ the medium got "overexposed", lots of sensasionalist media relating anime to the devil and stuff, and people got too much concerned about violence. It died out slowly. Ironically, when we got our first anime-only channel (Animax), things already had went to shit.
>>120086118
