I get the explanation being that Slaine can see the bullet trajectories, but actually, that's irrelevant. If the bullets are actually being carefully aimed using the space wind, that means that simply changing direction after the shot is fired will guarantee a miss. Basically, if the pilots did any sort of evasive maneuvers, which have been common since WWI, Inaho would have a hard time hitting anything. Bullets don't travel at the speed of light.

The point is that if you are being targeted, you move, and by the time that the vers knew more than one guy was getting shot down, moving around should have been obvious.

And again, since Inaho was aiming his shots, simply moving fractions of a degree at that speed and that range would have worked. The show depicts the space wind as so fucking unpredictable that just small differences affect where a shot lands tremendously. Which is also fucking ridiculous when you think about how gravity works.
