Speculating what symbols mean toward the message of the show before they're thoroughly explained is different. Pretty much this. The only thing that's still very unclear is the role of the court scenes/judges, but then a lot of the things about the repeating scene in Penguindrum were never that clear either.

It's a show about bears trying to infiltrate the human world to prey on them and humans trying to protect themselves. It's also about one girl losing her lover to the bears and trying to deal with that.

It's also soaked in symbolism, of course, so on a meta level it's about lesbians and yuri as a genre, though exactly how everything relates isn't necessarily clear yet because we're only two episodes in.
