I dropped KanColle right after seeing the whole "muh totally traditional zen Kyudo"-girl wearing short skirt and laying arrows that transforms halfway into planes and everyone being super serious and going "woaw it's so beautiful".
What the fuck, Strike Witches was crazy as fuck but somehow it was still watchable.
Season 1 > 2 > Movie > Ova 1 > Waiting for OVA 2 & 3 and details about the TVA while reading the various manga. Have fun anon.
You can watch the show first before going into the LN and manga. Start with the first LN if you like it darker.
Well, not really. It's all mecha musume but within that genre you have some subtypes.
Strike Witches have the girl's bodies (legs, specifically) covered with their mecha component, while Kancolle is closer to equipping a special foothold and a large backpack.
It's probably relevant that before the popularity boom, Kancolle's design orientation is towards moe (notice the shift towards more crisp designs), while SW has been staying true to its 'cool' side since day 1.
Strike Witches is not so crazy, Vividred is.
Both are crazy and I like them but I'm a sucker for mecha musume, as long as new mecha musume series keeps rolling in I'm a happy man. Now where's my Tank mecha musume series to complete the holy trinity? Tank Witches and GuP doesn't count.
SW makes far more sense, if only because magic
SW's weapons are also normal weapons, Kancolle's miniature cannons looks stupid as hell
SW also doesn't have any stupid conditions such as "only little girls can kill them etc", their gear only let them fly freely to fight at close range with high mobility, and nothing else.
>SW makes far more sense, if only because magic
Kancolle are also powered by magic especially with bunch of fairies around.
>SW's weapons are also normal weapons, Kancolle's miniature cannons looks stupid as hell
Also, Kancolle have different class of ships fighting like Destroyers, Heavy Cruisers, Fast Battleships which they tried to get as historically accurate as possible on their armament but just downsize it to human size and as shown in the show are pretty devastating. The designs can be a little bit inconsistent but that's what you get when you have bunch of different artists drawing them though they are trying to fix those by introducing the Kai 2 version of the ships.
>doesn't have any stupid conditions such as "only little girls can kill them etc
It is not conditions, they are spirits of warships reborn and born as girls because ships tends to be referred as 'she'.
Glad you can understand. To make it clear, Abyssals are also souls of warships reborn but they are more of ships malice personified. By this you can have both abyssal version of the same fleet girl fighting her human form fleet girl.
That's nice anon but next time read something more than a preview or synopsis before posting.
You're one episode into a show and calling it shit because it hasn't explained literally everything. Did you ever think that maybe Fubuki, who is the PoV character and doesn't understand any of this either, might have some of these questions answered at the school she was supposed to start going to on her second day at the base?
You mean the 2min slideshow that simply dumped everything without any explanation beyond "this is how it is now look at these cute girls!"?
Face it, they did that shit so that they could jump right into the show without having to do any worldbuilding or development. Its lazy as fuck
Kadokawa has purposely done that with Kancolle so that the fandom and other supplementary pieces of media can interpret it in their own way. The Shimakaze manga has its own story, Calm Seas has its own story, I'm sure the Kagerou and Crane LNs have their own ways of explaining it, but we'll never know because they're never gonna be translated, and all the doujinshi have their own ways of explaining things.
Kancolle is a franchise where you can't expect everything to be explained to you in one sitting, especially in the anime where they've made it clear that they're gonna be pandering more to the fans than newcomers.
More like they didn't think things through because there is no need to do see on a Mobage format. And for the anime rather than proposing an interpretation then went with a "who cares ?" that leaves anime-only newcomers with the impression of watching a clusterfuck of stupidity and cute girls.
Seriously, I was interested in Kancolle, but this first episode drove me away from the franchise.
At least the ero-doujinshis are good.
Also if you're interested then play the game if you have a lot of time to burn. Lottery isn't something to be driven you away, but something that you have to expect from it.
Nagato is the leader for now, Yamato has not shown up yet.
This, Yamato is more like a hidden ace or
>especially in the anime where they've made it clear that they're gonna be pandering more to the fans than newcomers.
And that is one of the problems, the first episode treated is as a given that the viewers would know and accept everything and gave no indication that it would be otherwise later. But I admit I could be wrong and expand of some ideas in later episodes, that is just not the impression they give.
I liked SW and expected to like KC, but it feels stale so far.
>At the end of the day, if you didn't like Strike Witches, have no interest in World War II and think the premise is stupid you won't see the appeal.
>Just read doujins of the characters on sadpanda.
It really is the new touhou.
There are people this retarded on /a/.
It's a whole genre, of which (until Kancolle) Strike Witches is the most well-known representative on /a/. While they're planegirls, the universe has tank witches as well, though not a battleship versions. There are some really old mecha musume shipgirlss on danbooru, though.
A commissioned USN ship is already in the game.
Prinz Eugen was a commissioned ship in both the Kriegsmarine and the United States Navy.
If the striker unit was real, I wonder how long it would be until we started seeing stories of people chopping themselves up into gravy with the propellers.
>It contains everything you need to know.
About a show that was never made.
There´s a fair ammount of historical fanservice (for example, all the main characters are based on mostly WWII flying aces, so the more you know about them as well as general WWII history, the more is there fo you) .Also, one episode of the the 2nd session is set in not-Rome, so lots of architectural fanservice there. Also fanservice of movies from the Hollywood on-the -Tiber era, for some reason.
Is Fumikane designing some Kanmusu not good enough for you?
Why don't you have Shinden already, anon?
>Strike Witches mainly use MGs and 20mm
>Tank Witches are lucky if they can mount 122mm/90mm/88mm depending on the nation
>Fubuki mounts dual 127mm
There's a pretty huge firepower gap between them.
>I wish there will be a crossover so that these two franchise can have mutual harmony.
I don't see a lot of rivalry among those franchise fans. Maybe a little bit between then and GuP, but it is probably just a few people and most fans like the three of them.
What would they be called?
The LesbianMilitary 3?
Or make a girl based around the SBD dauntless.
I have no idea if Fumi designed her but Pinz Eugen always reminds me off this slut.
Isn't the whole point of Kancolle that the main girl wants to be with that "oneesama" of hers?
Isn't Yukari a lesbian and Mihou also may be, as well?
Are you going to say that "Rolling Girls" is not /u/, as well?
>Isn't the whole point of Kancolle that the main girl wants to be with that "oneesama" of hers?
No, aircraft carriers having DD/CA/CL escorts are a thing. They used to have BB escorts too during WW2. Plus Fubuki loves her admiral, read her game lines.
Their lines, mostly.
Yes, both Prinz Eugen and Heinrike were designed by Fumikane
She wants to get married.
Planes don't get turned into girls, they just become tiny and get piloted by a fairy.
>That would piss off everyone who married their Whobuki.
All five of them
Of all the girls you could marry, why would you marry Whobuki?
I never hear about people marrying Shimakaze, but people marry their Kaga a lot.
I wrote this before looking at the pastebin. But overall it's the same problem. You don't need a lenghty backstory for a browser game.
And the variety of designs is a plus if the strong point of your game is collecting cute girls.
But for an anime having so much design variation is a liability, and having a lackluster setting is dangerous for any story in a serie format.
I don't think Im going to play it though, I already have games I have to spend time on, and tons of anime and eroge backlog I have to go through, I don't really want to burn time in a browser game to get a Nagato sprite saying nice things to me.
What's up with all these niggas judging Strike Witches based on the OVA alone?
The one that isn't a crit magnet.
I assume that is Kaga but I don't have her yet. How did I get Turkey before Kaga?
to put it in the simplest way I can, it feels like it's trying to hard.
If you want to make a stupid show about genderswapped WWI aces protecting the world (while also not wearing pants), go fucking nuts.
Strike witches felt so fucking marketed as a "silly, fun anime, yay!" that I just couldn't stand it. It really felt like the producers were going down a cliche checklist.
Boob girl? Got that.
Yuri by the truckload? Uh-huh
Stupid gaijin american who can't keep her tits in her shirt? No doubt.
P....Pansu?!? Dude, none of the characters wear pants. Except the one girl with leggings I guess. But she doesn't wear underwear in addition, just the leggings.
Is every character dumbed down to the point of being waifubait and nothing else? How could we forget?
I understand that every female character in anime will become a waifu to someone eventually. But please, don't build a character with "waifu qualities" listed higher than "actual personality".
I also hate how anime fights are so damn jumpy, it's like there's no actual skill or strategy being shown. I'd love to see strike witches redone by the same guy who did the choreography for "the raid", I'd watch that shit.
Kaga is the KKK MVP
I would bet more on full frontal collision to the ground since the thrust point on these is your thighs, and without wings to support the weight of your body the units would have to deliver shitloads of thrust to be able to fly a human, and would be incredible unstable to use, meaning a simple mistake in body positioning, and you would eat a lot of dirt in that landing
The propellers are at the end of the legs, and they don't have a knee joint in most models, so I would bet it would be quite hard to hit yourself with them, hitting the propeller on another leg or on the other propeller though, without a limiter in the crotch would totally happen all the time
Strike Witches make an effort to make everything work in-universe. Kancolle's first episode was just mediocre as fuck. Spread itself way too thin and didn't give the conflict any weight at all.
These shit series are the michael bay of anime.
shitty plot and only has the crappy action to try and make up for it.
instead of generic "hot" girls it has generic little girls because thats whats hot in japan
>HA HA OMG PLANE LEGS JAPAN HOW WACKY xD CAN'T WATCH THIS LOL
>HA HA OMG SHIP SKATING JAPAN HOW WACKY xD CAN'T WATCH THIS LOL
If you cant suspend your disbelief for just a little bit to watch some cute girls fight monsters, you seriously don't belong on /a/ and anime isn't the medium for you.
Except SW explains the reasoning behind using Strikers alongside conventional weapons, how the Striker units are built and how they work, and why Witches even fight in the first place.
What the hell are you trying to say? Of course there are shitposters who knows nothing about the franchise and just wants to stir shit, and don't quote me, you fucking retard.
I like Strike Witches AND Kancolle, also GuP and SnW.
Those two "quotes" of yours are contradictory. My problem was SW is trying to be "lellelele so wacky xD" when it's just another pile of used panties and cliche.
And if you're too thick to understand that suspension of disbelief becomes impossible when the show is trying to hard to be both logical and illogical.
Nice 7s though. Quads then a 5 string, also of 7s. If this was /b anons would be creaming themselves right now.
>What the hell are you trying to say? Of course there are shitposters who knows nothing about the franchise and just wants to stir shit, and don't quote me, you fucking retard.
Anime really is not for you. I actually don't even know if /tv/ is for you.
Nothing. That's you opinions. I still think strike witches and uppote and whatnot is shit, but you can still like something that's shit.
I mean, I like brink and that got a 5/10 on release.
Most of us do.
>Those two "quotes" of yours are contradictory. My problem was SW is trying to be "lellelele so wacky xD"
Except that it didn't? Are you sure you are not talking about KlK or Rolling Girls?
Most Strike Witches haters didn't watch the show. Remember the "slightly less hateful Asuka" reviewer whose readers didn't notice anything wrong with that comment.
Chances are, we are dealing with that guy here, considering the comments.
While in KC, specifically in the game, mentions about who are these shipgirls to be exact and what would happen if they're resigned from duty, how are their armaments made, the logic behind on why they're the only ones who can fight, and giving you hints who are the Abyssals.
if you try to be something, you're not that thing. If you try to be funny, you're not. If you try to look tough, you're not. Having qualities like "funny" are personality traits, which come from temperament and past experiences. Likewise, you look tough not because you're wearing leather and a stupid collar... thing, you look tough because you dress simply and work out.
Are you guys seriously such white knights that you can't accept that someone doesn't like what you do? Or can't handle criticism of your favorite things? Good god, they were right, some people never get past middle school.
>Are you guys seriously such white knights that you can't accept that someone doesn't like what you do? Or can't handle criticism of your favorite things? Good god, they were right, some people never get past middle school.
More like your comment showed you didn't really watch the series you are criticizing.
>You disagree with me that makes you whiteknight kid faggots lol u so pathetic
And on that note, over to Yoshika with the weather. Yoshika?
I've never said anything to that effect m8
Just pointing out you don't just judge all genres by the same standard, that's nonsense
Would you consider Barakamon shit because there's not explosions?
fanboy, argument discarded.
She's ugly. And cliched. And you literally just repeated what I criticized about you, with no self awareness.
So, to make it simple for you sods, I think strike witches is too damn fond of the "cute girls doing cute things" genre... Thing. if you think otherwise, prove me wrong. You've clearly watched all of the first season, and maybe all of the second as well. Inform me of my folly, please.
Too bad the have elected to not cover half of that in the show. I expect the Abyssals to be fleshed out more though, they will not cover the other things because they expect their viewers to be fans of the game and not bother explaining what they would already know.
Thanks Jim. As you can see behind me we are seeing record highs of oppai. Farmers are predicting this years melon harvests to be particularly "fruitful." Ha ha ha ha! Thats it for the 5 o'clock weather report, back to you Jim.
>Would you consider Barakamon shit because there's not explosions?
I never watched barakamon but it doesnt seem like an anime that is about action+shitty fanservice and thus wont be judged because of the shitty action that is not backed up by a good plot.
You can only argue that you don't like action and fanservice
You can't argue that this isn't a series that delivers in what it's supposed to do
Yes, the anime is made exclusively for gamers because that's how this franchise works. If you don't know 25+ characters alone in the first episode, then you might as well just drop it because it's impossible to understand their quirks and references (unless you have knowledge in IJN ships). But what luck! We have wikia and http://pastebin.com/AiGEeTPL for newcomers.
>I expect the Abyssals to be fleshed out more though
We expect that it the last few episodes will be the re-enactment of the Bombing of Henderson Field, and hopefully the Battle of Midway.
>We expect that it the last few episodes will be the re-enactment of the Bombing of Henderson Field, and hopefully the Battle of Midway.
>We expect [...] the Battle of Midway
No one reasonable is expecting that to end the first season, considering the Midway event was relatively recent. It'll likely end with Iron Bottom Sand, with Midway in S2.
Action cannot function by itself, action needs to be backed up by characters and plot or else there's no point.
Consider the following: Die hard is one of the greatest action movies ever made but without the character of John MCclane it wouldnt be nearly as good because there is no one to be rooting for, you have no connection to the action and thus its just explosions and bullets flying around.
Explosions and bullets are not the only part of an action scene and if you are seriously saying that these shows are good just because you enjoy the doujins then you should quit watching anime.
Same with tits.
I don't care about your tits, I care about you. The tits are a nice addition. I would much rather have a girl with a great personality but not allowed to have sex with her over some sort of succubus.
>that's how this franchise works
Its called making a shitty adaptation. There is no chance this anime will be anywhere near as good as the game because they are going to throw out the depth and wrangle sales with cute girls and pantyshots
No, tits being a metaphor for sex.
I use tits here because I can't have sex with a non-real character, but you bet you ass I can look at her tits.
Unless you've been building up all this characterization I'll just tell you to put your tits away. I can just find some real ones after all.
>girls with some shiplike qualities and a specific fashion sense
is way more of a stretch than
>pantsu animal ears plane leg big gun magic loli
Not knowing about either series but seeing the characters sometimes due to going on /a/ and /toy/ I'd say Shimakaze looks just as goofy as any of the SWs, but she's the exception. Strike witches is pretty off the wall even within this series of "give little girls guns or robot arms or some shit" shows we've been seeing lately (and perhaps for a much longer time and I just didn't notice).
Even series that are much more style over substance like Jojo and Kinnikuman have truckloads of characters that sometimes only appear for one chapter and they still have ten times more personality than every character in this show combined.
Try to apply pic related to any character in strike witches
There is Hibiki/Verniy, an Akatsuki class destroyer that was given to the Russians after World War 2.
Sure they are. Over marketing is bland. I understand that anything with a pricetag is in some way a product, but strike witches seems like 100% sure fire "waifu quality" product to me.
And I HATE the fucky jumpy ass, non choreographed anime fights. Christ, put some weight into your work.
Well yeah and I don't even know that much about the boats one I just know Strike Witches jams way more shit into their girls than these shows normally do. Of course they both look retarded at a glance, I just think that when you look at it for five seconds you'll see that Strike Witches is more retarded.
>I don't even know that much
>the boats one
>at a glance
>look at it for five seconds
>"I dont know anything about either show but it is an absolute 100% fact that the both are shit"
This is the highest level of ignorant, self-entitled retardation I have ever seen
>It really is the new touhou.
YOU TAKE THAT BACK MOTHERFUCKER
I like Strike Witches, it feels like a monster (nueroi) of the week show with cute girls (in pants). The different country relations make it semi-interesting sometimes.
Kancolle seems weird to me though. I never really care for the military otaku aspects of these shows (including planes/pilots in SW). I don't know why I can't get into it like I could with SW, they're not that different.
I think I started watching SW after I really liked the OPs, so maybe it's that.
>replying to tripfags
okay, real talk now. If you fucking hate tripfags, FILTER THE FUCKING TRIPFAGS. All of them. It's easy as fuck now with the native extension. Why in the blazing hells would you profess to hate attention-whoring tripfags and then PROCEED TO GIVE THEM ATTENTION?
Don't do this. Don't fucking do this. Hide my post and move the fuck on. If it hadn't been for the nigh-instant response I would've closed the window and been browsing /jp/ for a touhou thread by now.
If you're going to take this sort of silly 4chan shit seriously, for the love of fuck, go all the way and shun tripfags like they've got a scarlet letter F for faggotry nailed to their fucking foreheads.
I can't wait to see them fight the North Koreans
Really, that's the worst example of ignorant retardation you've ever seen? You must be sheltered as fuck. I hope you don't throw up if you ever find out what the Westboro Baptist Church is or "that there are Muslims".
I wasn't even judging them harshly, they just both look retarded. They're probably both enjoyable in a "y-yeah, this is fun, fun is what this is and I'm not stupid for liking it, y-yeah" way. You made a pretty big leap on the last line saying I was saying they were 100% bad. I never said that. Watch all the stupid shit you want. Who cares?
I was wondering if saying boats would make you guys flip out like when you say horses instead of ponies to an MLPfag. That's all that was. If I'm completely wrong and they aren't even based on ships that's my bad.
