I was split between her and Eri.
One of the funniest anime I've seen, Harima is an amazing character.
Only Tenma and Karasuma got the happy ending. Everything else was unresolved and reset back to square 1, undoing all the plot and character development up until the last few chapters.
Only read the manga so I don't know about the anime, but I loved the manga
Eri x Harima happened
Hanai x Mikoto happened
Karen x Imadori happened
Kido x dicks always
I remember dropping School Rumble after 1 chapter of Z. I was so pissed. I still am annoyed today.
I honestly couldn't choose between her and Eri when I first read it.(back when the chapters were still coming out)
Read it again like 3 months ago and think Yakumo should have won.
They had better chemistry and seemed to understand one another. Whereas Eri's was built on misunderstanding all around.
It just felt better watching Yakumo slowly develop feelings for him.
I really have to disagree, Yakumo's feelings were so bumbling and inept imo. I thought Eri had better chemistry. And while based on misunderstanding, that at least gave a reason for the drama
Hrmm. Back then I didn't realize the eyes of the characters in School Rumble were so big.
Where the fuck did the author go afterwards?
Did he rack him so much money with his first manga so has lost meaning in life of whatever?
Agreed OP. She's a beautifully tragic character.
To the anon who said Eri was more developed as the "only good tsundere:"
Eri is as generic as it gets. Holy shit just swap her with any Rie tsundere and you'll see almost the same character interaction.
Yakumo's mature, reliable maternal nature was a big part of her character, true. But the most crucial aspect to her personality was her ability to see into the minds of men and how it made her turn away from all relationships other than with her sister. She saw how shallow and petty all the guys around her were and gave up on socializing. if it wasn't for Sara's outgoing nature and Harima's good heart she would have probably been isolated for life, and for all we know she might be, given the ominous foreshadowing with the ghost girl.
Futari wa Wasurechau still makes me sad to this day, since I relate it to both Karasuma/Tenma and Harima/Yakumo; Karasuma forgets everything and Harima never even finds out.
Yakumo's mind reading super power is barely explored and was unnecessary.
Bitter yakumofags can leave.
Eri is no more generic than Yakumo, in fact she is far less.
Yakumo is a generic nadeshiko.
Eri has issues with her family, and Harima's tsun attitude towards her counteracted her own.
They were both forgotten children acting with the same (albeit gender flipped) attitudes towards one another. And had far more between them to bond over
2 bitter yakumofags
All these people saying Eri was a generic tsundere, I don't know what you are smoking. She was an ideal tsundere. Nowadays, people just call characters tsundere when all they are are fucking cunts who can't do anything with their emotions but abuse the guy just because that's what's expected of them. And then is stuck in that mode for the rest of their 'relationship'
So please don't put Eri on the same level as other tsundere, or properly fuck off.
I do think she was because she was more interesting, more dynamic, and probably harder to write.
Characters like Yakumo are easy, have them slowly warm up and be shy.
Eri on the other hand, while she was a bitch also was more active in her attempts to do good, whereas Yakumo just had a passive good girl aura.
what the fuck do people see in Yakumo?
Eri I can see because she is a really good tsundere and had great chemistry with Harima.
But Yakumo scenes were so dull. And her arc was literally "slowly likes Harima by being around him and has a flashback about how much her sister mans to her"
Jin made a manga about a character just like her and it was terrible. Point proven
