What went wrong with Persona, /a/?
i wish there was more time in the days i guess.
but that's not really a complaint.
maybe a less shit dungeon layout, but it's not bad, just boring. like walking through a series of hallways where, occasionally, monkeys jump out of closets and hit you with sticks. and at the end of the hallway there's a really big monkey with a much bigger stick and probably issues with it's monkey sexuality or something.
it just becomes an ordeal of "guess i'll go on til i run out of SP."
the games aren't bad but there's room for improvement.
if the main idea is good, and it is, then little tweaks just make things better.
i feel you real hard.
there could be a bigger balance. it's two games in one:
a social sim and a dungeon crawler.
the sim is good but is so good that the dungeon part of the game, arguably the meat and potatoes, feels lackluster in comparison.
i should WANT to fuck up shadows and get treasure, not feel like it's just some homework i have to do by the end of the endgame week in order to progress the story.
i see the intention of it putting a stress on players and motivate them to complete the dungeon, but if you're not shit most of them can be cleared in about two good trips into the tv.
again, not a bad game by any means, i go to SMT for the grindy asswhipping and persona for the "tfw you will never have a crew like this" self torture.
i have high hopes for persona 5.
i can honestly say i think there's more that can go right than wrong.
Finally someone else actually enjoys the social sim aspect
Her Ultimax sprite is too good, but her personality annoys the fuck out of me.
Carnivore that's Discarded Womanhood a best
I don't get why some people rag on Chie for being too masculine, there's far more tomboy tomboys out there that still manage to be qt grills.
I get so goddamn sick of people essentially bitching that it isn't the same as mainline SMT. They've even dropped SMT from the title at this point, what's wrong with Atlus offering something different? Persona being Persona doesn't make SMT less SMT.
I don't know jack shit about persona but I like this picture.
The thing is she's not that masculine at all, she's actually cute as hell.
Then play it mate. But do yourself a favor and play and finish 3 before 4.
That would be Mitsuru from Persona 3. She's the classy high society one with more than a little dom in her.
That's my point. If Noa can be a mecha otaku practically in love with her labor and still be one of the best characters in anime, then Chie can sure as shit love meat and kung-fu. I don't understand the fear some people have of tomboys, like all women should be flat, submissive classic Nippon waifus.
these faggots postings sluts instead of posting the pureness of Yukiko.
>but her personality annoys the fuck out of me.
She's very lovely.
>only wants to be with one guy
She has a naturally intimate voice and is friendly, but that doesn't make her a slut.
Yukiko has the actual personality of a slut.
With Persona I find it very hard to separate setting and atmosphere, both are so key to the other in its presentation. 3 knocked it out of the park with what should be dark and edgy but somehow comes off as really cool and modern even today, while 4 wanted to be fun and enjoyable with some unsettling undercurrents.
Yukiko is downright the most beautiful Persona waifu, but the end of her social link pissed me off so much.
"I want to have my own life instead of being forced to run the inn. Ahh fuck it I'll just run it anyways."
I think they were going for 'learning family values' since a normal nip viewpoint would tell her to put her family first, but it just came off as 'Yukiko is a doormat'. Especially weird since Persona is normally super progressive for something Japanese.
You ain't wrong mate, the other guy was. That's Naoto
3 and 4 are originally PS2 games. You can get P3:FES (the best version) off the PSN in all regions now, and P4 has a Vita port called Persona 4 Golden, which is the ideal way to play it if you can. The second P4 anime was adapting the extra stuff they added along with doughnut steel Marie.
>First time with P3P
Don't even joke about that.
Yukari is pretty great.
>Don't even joke about that.
It's just a improved P3 and an alternate game mode as the best girl after you finish the original storyline.
Use PPSSPP to play P3P, it is supported on PC, Android and even iOS.
While I preferred to play it with a controller, it also has support to keyboard and doesn't even depends that much on analog control.
I like FeMC, but it sure as shit isn't an improved game. Enjoy all the story scenes being balls, the overworld sucking and combat that's far too easy thanks to not being rebalanced.
FeMC is nice though, and I'm pretty sure you can select her first time.
You can, but it's better to experience her after finishing the male story. I never played the original, but I thought the P3P was vastly superior to FES.
Use a PS2 emulator for P3:FES if you can, it's a much better way to play the game. P3P cuts a whole heap of things and basically reduces it to a pure VN outside of tartersauce and ports over the combat from P4 without balancing the game for it, making it way too easy.
The new mechanics are P4's combat system, which makes it too easy. Full 3D models and proper cutscenes rather than just dialogue describing things is the way to go, especially with how much personality Atlus squeeze out of them. It's a nice way to make replaying it more interesting, though.
It can be irritating but it doesn't fuck up often enough to be worth complaining about.
Best Persona girls are the robots
>Maaya Sakamoto robot
>Kansai accent robot
I like Aigis as a character, but she and Teddie are both the worst party members of their respective games from a thematic and atmospheric standpoint. Plus Teddie is just shit. So very very shit.
I'm just saying, they both mark the point that the party dynamic starts to falter. Everybody else is defined by their personality, but they are defined by what they are.
Games are great, there's already been discussion in the thread on how to get into them. Which P4 anime was it?
>Persona being Persona doesn't make SMT less SMT.
But it does make SMT games less frequent and less budgeted, just compare SMTIV and Persona Q. It's a lot easier for Atlus to make Persona games they know will sell well rather than risky SMT games with a smaller following. So in a sense, Persona is making SMT less SMT, or less of what it could be.
Nothing's paticularly, wrong. ATLUS is in still in the process of milking the shit out of P4, when P4 is not paticularly good. It's not bad either, its a decent JRPG that fixes some problems from previous games, but plot and characters are just terrible compared to other ATLUS games. Also the animes are terrible.
Hopefully they don't drop the ball with P5.
please don't copy the Eikichi/Ginko dynamic a fourth time in a row
Yep, that explains it. P4tA flanderises the cast, as does P4A.
Flanderise, named for Ned Flanders of The Simpsons. It's when a single characteristic comes to dominate a character and they become something of a parody of what they once were. It's most common in long running shows, but also happens a lot when adapting between mediums.
Reminder that Fuuka is the purest, cutest and overall best P3.
Yukari is a better fit for the MC though.
I don't get why Rise gets so much hate. She is the friendliest of the group by far(not because she's a slut) and cute as hell.
Also, Mitsuri was best P3
Play it faggot. I started playing FES in December and I'm having a blast.
Also, great taste.
She's pretty great. I started out FES gunning for Mitsuru, but went for Yukari first.
Most anons misunderstand her and treat her like a vapid idol. Just like in the game.
It's sad because she really is the best girl
>Rise is as close to a real woman as an anime character can get.
>Weabs hate any anime character that does not act extremely stupid, is not a little girl, or both.
Go back to >>>/v/ and take your weird delusions with you.
I could not agree more. The characters and their personal development completely outdoes the dungeon level designs and any combat strategy involved.
The manga adaptation of Arena treated him fairly nicely.
Considering it's an adaptation of a fighting spinoff in the first place, it was way better than it had any right to be.
Always gives me a chuckle when newfags say this especially when Persona 4's tone was more in line with the previous games than P3 which was needlessly grimderp for the sake of it.
Why do I want to smell that butt? I am impossibly excited by the idea of being smothered by that glorious mass of flesh.
I literally do not comprehend my most basic motivations and psychology.
Except that's bullshit. There are five mainline games and there was a longer break between Nocturne and II than SJ and IV. The Persona sub series isn't preventing Atlus from making more mainline games. If anything, the opposite is true, as Persona is such a cash cow that as long as Atlus milk it every once in a while they don't have to worry about mainline titles not selling millions.
I blame short attention spans and shit taste.
>P4 characters are balls compared to other Atlus games
Story I'll give you but if you're serious about characters you must not have played more than MAYBE five other Atlus games
People who hate Marie are ridiculous, their reasons to hate her are dumb
I'll give you Marie, but you're still a faggot.
Damn, forgot about that. P4tA with JYB playing the protagonist and antagonist was utterly amazing on concept alone, though.
You spend 70 hours with them, you get used to them. Also, aside from odd choices with honorifics the localisations are top notch for the games.
>You will never smell Chie's spats after a training session, feeling the damp, slightly musky fabric on your face
Ehh, I don't know. P4's English dub cast was pretty good overall, but P3 had some questionable ones like Fuuka and Ken, and the fact that their seiyuus are Mamiko Noto and Megumi Ogata respectively only makes the difference in quality more apparent.
>P4tA with JYB playing the protagonist and antagonist was utterly amazing on concept alone, though
It wasn't amazing in any way. In original version Yu and Gas Station Attendant have the same VA and they should've keept that in dub.
Kanji definitely sounds a lot better when voiced by Troy Baker (as in the original Persona 4) but the new dude sounds brety gud too. Did an alright job in the anime (and even then, Troy Baker voiced Kanji until Episode 12 before the new guy took over).
Yukiko's voice sounds a little more lively in PQ than it does in 4 (where she sounds bored most of the time, but I guesssss it's understandable from a story standpoint).
And Chie's voice is perfect. Her original voice from the PS2 release of Persona 4 is horrible. There are actually people who defend it. Disgusting.
best waifu tho
There are better RPGs to play.
P1 was shit.
P2 was a neat direction for the series and had a solid story, but not very relatable for most of the audience.
P3 was pretty edgy, but it tied all of its narrative and themes together very well into an unforgettable experience.
P4 was a cash-in on the unexpected success of P3 and reduced all characters to cliches for the sole purpose of mass appeal.
Fuuka was bad in the Japanese version too. She does this horrible grating whispery-shy voice which absolutely fits the character but is just intolerable to listen to for long.
Ken is just generic shonen. Which is fine, especially compared to his English voice, but it wasn't anything to write home about.
Meanwhile, Junpei sounds fucking wrong in Japanese. He's got original P4 Chie syndrome--he sounds way too old for the role, and he doesn't fit the character's personality either. He sounds like a slick TV comedian instead of a high schooler trying to be funny to disguise his insecurities.
Mitsuru and Yukari are both perfect in both because there are queens and bitches in every culture.
i might start playing P2
just look at this qt!
...I liked old Fuuka and old Chie. Please no bully.
Although Persona 4 animu Naoto is utter shit.
God, if there was one thing I liked about P3, it was how perfect the VA work was. Everyone actually felt "real" and it made the experience so much better
except Ken, fuck Ken.
I wish P4 could've captured the magic.
I want to pour a glass of chocolate milk over Fuuka
Something I really liked over P4 was that each member of SEES had their own plot in the story. The most we got from the P4 crew after beating their shadows was just side plots via Social Links. I hope 5 does 3's method again.
You know your stuff, anon. She's pure lewd.
4's way of handling things was good in theory because it didn't have 'character arcs' in the main story, which might have bogged things down sometimes. Unfortunately, it was impossible to relate the progress you can make in the optional S. Links to the main game.. so most characters stayed completely static all the way through.
Like, I'm pretty sure Yukiko and Chie could be removed from the plot entirely after you save them and nothing would change.
P4 had good voice acting though? I didn't like Chie or Yukiko, but they weren't dramatically worse than P3 and at least more-or-less fit the characters. Naoto was great, Kanji was great, Adachi and Dojima and Nanako were great, Rise and Teddie were spot-on.
The only thing I really missed were the romantic social links from P3, some of them were really fucking good and you could feel it building up with each rank raised. P4 was hurt by having the friend-or-lover decision so late in the links, it's like "Hey be my lover at rank 8", then one link at 9 that only modestly changes depending on whether you're dating, and then you either fuck at 10 or become best friends 5ever.
P3 Hermit was best girl, prove me wrong
Chie's new VA was pretty shakey at the start of the game but she settled into her role pretty awesomely by the end of it.
For me, she was easily the most sincere when it came to the romantic scenes.
>But how else are you going to kill Margareth without a full broken team?
She's not in Fes so you're good.
>Yosuke and Chie
Surprisingly they were the brains of the whole opperation (outside of the MC being controlled by the player, of course"
Naoto was a completel fucking retard from her introduction to the end, as far as the investigation was concerned.
>P4 was hurt by having the friend-or-lover decision so late in the links, it's like "Hey be my lover at rank 8", then one link at 9 that only modestly changes depending on whether you're dating, and then you either fuck at 10 or become best friends 5ever.
My friend actually first playedP4 last week and he was kind of bugged that even though he was Chie's lover in the Social Link, in the main plot she acted like he was nothing but her friend.
Yukiko yes. They kept Chie relevant by giving her all the brilliant insights in the second half of the story that really should have come from Naoto.
Maybe he actually thought he was saving them? Maybe there has been a Conductor this whole time? Shit like that.
Really Naoto was the most useless character. Go back and see how many deductions she makes compared to Yosuke and Chie. It's not a favorable comparison.
Chie was far more important than Naoto to the investigation.
Really, the three most "impactful" members of the team as far as investigation development went were Brotag, Chie and Yosuke.
Yukiko added nothing, Rise added nothing, Kanji added nothing and Naoto added how not to be a detective.
I feel like Chie was supposed to be the 'heart' of the group whereas Naoto was supposed to be the brains.
Except Naoto didn't do fucking anything except repeat what everyone already knew because the devs assumed the player was too stupid to make any connections and had the attention span of a hamster.
That scene was one of the best in the game, it had some real inter-party conflict and tensions flaring.
And I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel I put my dick in the right one once Chie ripped into the others. Rise disappointed me there, she just rolled over and hid in the corner.
If anything, Naoto was the devils advocate for retarded decisions and ideas.
Most of the time, her actions made the player think "wait, that is retarded" and then act in the opposite way. This opposite way was nearly always the right way.
Yukiko was guilty of that as well.
Naoto, Yosuke and Kanji were the ones who were all for it.
Chie was the only one with the balls to say that what they were about to do was retarded and founded on unconfirmed speculation.
I expected every party member to at least have some type of opinion, but they all turned out to be complete pussies who couldn't even voice their concerns. I mean, I expect that from Yukiko, but Kanji and Rise and Teddy? Come on, I lost so much respect for them during that scene.
Naoto played MGS and noticed how Snake repeats the last two words of a sentence back at the person as a question all the time, she decided to do the same but for whole conversations.
>those scenes where you're attempting to piece things together
>the answer is obvious
>your MC acts like a dumbfuck and you can only say stupid shit
>Yosuke or Chie make the connection
>the two dumbest people in the entire investigation team
I think it was pretty easily the best scene in the game.
In the bad ending, all of the cards are reversed:
The Fool is, well, foolish and reckless.
The Magician is immature and backs a poor plan out of haste.
The Emperor tries to impose his will on the others and control the outcome.
The Empress lets the others decide for her, since he's too dependent to think for herself.
The Lover is so upset at everyone fighting that she'll agree to whatever brings harmony back to the group.
The Chariot is directionless, with nowhere to channel her emotions.
Wheel of Fortune is influenced into making a wrong decision by factors outside of her control. Bad luck.
And of course, in the Bad Ending, the Star gives in to despair and leaves for good, Justice dies unfairly, and the Hierophant approves of you going outside the system to punish Namatame.
Subtle but powerful, in my opinion.
>P3 Hermit was best girl, prove me wrong
>After the death of the MC, Yukari decides to become a teacher at the school she once attended with her lover
>Over time, she grows disgruntled with the monotony of life and escapes to an MMO
I think we all know who the best girl is.
That's true. He was pretty much awesome all through it.
Oh, he was a "Dear friend" alright.
Whoops. Priestess Reversed also has the meaning of "needing to listen to yourself instead of others", so the point stands.
The Lovers values the harmony of the group, while the Priestess is about transmitting the wisdom of others. Both are sensitive to discord.
I hated Junpei until he got over his MC jealousy which can you really blame him? Side note:
When I stayed at MEPs before going to basic I had to stay in a room with a real life Junpei. He came complete with goatee, personality, and was watching a kung fu movie
Junpei being jealous of MC didn't really make sense, the dude was the ace of aces and also could summon multiple personas. Of course he was in charge.
Being upset over taking orders from a girl fit his insecure personality much better.
Really, I feel like FeMC fits the story better than MC in general.
She gets flustered when she see's Elizabeth's Persona as a fighting intro against her
And when she's talking to Mitsuru about her acting work in the epilouge, she talks about wanting to make the world happy for MC
Looks like a faggot.
I thought P5 was gonna feature an adult as a throwback to the early Persona games, after I heard they were going back to the city. I was expecting a salaryman MC that kinda looked like Adachi.
>Junpei being jealous of MC didn't really make sense,
Plenty of people get jealous of others obviously better than them. There's a reason superiority and inferiority complexes are known diagnoses.
I really like Adachi and his entire character arc.
Idealistic student > Jaded detective > Villain lashing out > Reluctant Hero
I wouldn't mind if they explored a character like Adachi in P5. P4 was far too one dimensional for my tastes.
>but jealousy in itself is usually pretty stupid.
True. Junpei coming in and expecting to be promoted to Persona Master because he's the only man among girls just worked so well though, while his feud with MC felt like the Blue Ranger getting upset at the Red Ranger because he isn't in charge.
Nope, it was all completely justified
Junpei's a kid who never succeeded at anything in life. He gets shit grades and when he comes home his alcoholic daddy beats him on the head with beer bottles. He had zero self worth.
He meets this shitty emo kid and since he had a hard time being the new kid, befriends him.
Then one day he gets this special power, that finally sets him apart. He can finally do something that has some meaning. Then he finds out the emo kid also has this power. When they go into battle together, emo kid outclasses him in every way, no matter how hard he tries. Emo kid also pulls all the bitches, manages to talk to everyone and becomes the star of the sports team he joins.
So yes Junpei has every reason to be jealous. feMC made it interesting since it added the idea that Junpei wanted to protect her, but I prefer the man's route
Good post. I don't understand how anyone could dislike Junpei's arc or not understand it. I can understand if you prefer FeMC's, but to say MC's makes no sense?
But he only expresses anger when he gets passed over in favor of MC. He has just as much reason to be jealous of Akihiko Babe-Slayer.
It definitely fits his character to be jealous, just that the way they wrote it feels very sudden and forced. In FeMC's route he gets immediately uppity when FeMC is put in charge instead of him and gets slapped down very publicly by Mitsuru.
I've always thought Junpei's actions were the reaction the player would make if they were in his situation.
I always love how meta 3 and 4 were at times. The presence of Mitsuo and Adachi always felt like little jabs Atlus was making at the otakus, who imagine themselves to be a man like Yu
Akihiko only gets babes. He's not the best of the best nor does he directly compete with Junpei since they are from different classes.
MC was one of Junpei's only friends and a chance for him to
>Show the new guy the ropes
Unfortunately, it was MC who one upped him at every possible turn.
It's Akihiko man, Junpei can pretty much accept that Aki beats him in all categories
You would get jealous of your buddies or classmates at times, but not someone like Brad Pitt
I do like the addition of the girl's route. But he still had good reason to be jealous of MC. He was a bundle of insecurity
>Dat /ss/ route
Ken was a faggot but god damn, that was adorable.
She will likely always be my favourite vidya girl.
Im always surprised by how stacked she can sometimes appear.
I mean, sure. The jacket she wears is very form fitting and your eyes are drawn to the area around the bust but its always nice realising that the cute tomboy also has pretty nice tits.
I like him
At the very least the fact that he doesn't have dumb anime hair makes his design more believable and less jarring to see in the middle of a classroom full of normal kids
You're thinking of PQ aren't you? Ultimax only had the one story route, and Adachi's Story.
I'd just watch the story mode on youtube unless you're a fighting games fan TBH.
Both routes in PQ are good. Ultimax has two story modes and Episode Adachi.
Or was that a joke about how the shitty P4 route is the canon one and the P3 route doesn't matter at all
And Junpei became an elementary school baseball coach.
Pick related are his Ultimax prototype designs.
And in the end, he became a fucking coach
Mitsuru stays head of the Shadow Ops, has some rivalry with another government group. I don't think we'll see this conflict again
Akihiko goes into college for a job with the police. Aigis is pretty much his mom, making sure he always goes to school.
Junpei stays a baseball coach
Ken is in junior high, and will join the Shadow Ops when he graduates high school
Fuuka goes to engineering at uni
Yukari stays an actor/model
Yeah they dropped that side arc hard. Good, I hope he stays dead
I think he does odd jobs once in a while for Mitsuru for some money. Really, he's the worst off out of everyone
Also check out this Ken and Koro. And Koroken. Apparently they wanted to fuse them somehow.
Not as impressive as Junpei's but still.
>Literally every prototype has him with badass shades and clearly expressing competence
>Final product is the exact same Junpei from P3 because god forbid we have any character development even after three years
It's over, Atlus is finished
After the events of 3, no one besides Fuuka can summon theirs in the real world.
The only reason why they can in Ultimax is because Sho merged Inaba into the TV world for 1 hour
I don't think that's said anywhere. The P3 crew is surprised that they don't need their Evokers to summon in Ultimax even though it's the "real world". That implies they need the Evokers in the real world.
Yeah. It dropped severely in P4G and hit all time low in Ultimax
Categorically untrue. P3 had a lot of awful dogshit social links, while P4's were solid-to-great across the board. P4G's extra scenes weren't bad either, and neither was Arena.
Ultimax and Persona Q did feel weaker to me though. Perhaps the A-Team is working on P5.
Not that guy, but this just isn't true.
They added extra SP regenerating features, new abilities, the rescue feature, et al. They also nerfed some early bosses like Yukiko and especially Kanji.
I do believe they added a Maniac difficulty to compensate though.
Nozomi, Bebe, muh knee I can't remember his name, that other sports faggot, arts faggot that didn't want to be a doctor, Chihiro, Pharos
Yes but they called it Risky
>OP as fuck shuffle time taht levels up your skills or personas
>golden hands give shitton of exp when in vanilla it was 1 exp and tons of money
>Junpei's dream where he proposes to Chidori on TV
I hope her being alive in FES is canon
It most likely isn't. In PQ he talks about her all the time, but in stoy mode in Ultimax he doesn't talk about her at all. When one of the kids he is coaching asks him if he has a girlfriend, he freezes and avoids the question
Marie's dungeon was hard only because of the limits they impose with low tier gear and no items. Also because i know people who can't tell the obvious when they get the breaker items and the boss is immune to everything.
>Playing Persona Q which has only one audio track
>Laura Bailey will never squeal "Senpai, you're the best!" as you cum inside her
Why go on
Yeah. And that still made it harder than anything else in G or vanilla. You don't play P3 or 4 for challenge. Even maniac with exp and money set to low is more tedious than hard.
>boss immune to everything
>debilitate her ass
>mind charge Yukiko and Naoto
>throw fire break
>Yukiko takes like over half of her health with Petal Dance
That was disappointing
I'M A PEACOCK, MITSURU! YA GOTTA LET ME FLY!
Everything gets easy even on maniac if you grind yourself an all-repel Metatron and get Mind Charge all-dyne/morning star Lucifer.
Well, everything gets if you grind in general.
>>Laura Bailey will never squeal "Senpai, you're the best!" as you cum inside her
I was having a good day anon.
He dreams about proposing to her, then he wakes up and it's a sad moment because she's dead.
Then at the end of the game he says he's going to go make the dream a reality. The implication being that he wasn't dreaming about it because she's dead, he's was dreaming about what he was going to do THAT NIGHT had he not fallen asleep on the train.
They were explicitly fucking with P3 players.
