Why do so many people consider this the best anime they have ever watched?
Are they just normalfags who haven't watched more than 30 shows?
Animation wise the movies were superb, but the writing was fucking shit for the most part.
The only movies i really enjoyed were 5 and 7, the others were okay at best.
Is there something i am missing?
I don't get how ufotable funded this. I mean, seven movies across nine hours that isn't even told chronologically and frequently references other nasu works seems like a risky bet. Were the novels really that popular?
I generally think all of them have great production values, but story-wise it does suffer, though you can expect that from anything related to the Nasuverse.
I absolutely hated the Epilogue film/special since it was filled with 30 minutes of pretentious bullshit attempts at sounding "deep" and "philosophical" while for the most part everything they said did not mean anything.
Everything else though was enjoyable, but not excellent. I only really liked the Murder Speculation, and I thought Paradox Spiral was incredibly overrated and not as good as people made it out to be.
It's popular outside /a/ and was popular on /a/, which causes a bunch of samefags to shitpost about it all the time because they hate the fact that their own favourite niche anime from the 1960s isn't more popular, though if it became popular they'd turn on it as well. The paradox of the contr/a/rian hipster.
>Animation wise the movies were superb, but the writing was fucking shit for the most part.
I agree with this, mostly. I wouldn't call it "fucking shit" without exception, though. Paradox Spiral was good. It's ashame the entire movie series didn't focus solely on that arc in a more chronological way.
>trying this hard to fit in
The movies looked great and the writing was mediocre. Calling it fucking shit is just proving that you are an utter retard. I'm pretty sure you are just mad because of all the FSN threads that were clogging up /a/.
As much as I liked the movies the Epilogue was a huge turnoff for me too. Especially since after a few minutes the conversation turned into repeating itself with different words. The whole thing could have been done in 5 minutes.
> the writing was fucking shit for the most part.
However shit you think it is, it's still way better than most anime so I don't think this matters, and the concept of the story itself is absolutely great.
Also normalfags only like FSN, not this or anything else from Nasu, so don't even try.
>KnK is pretty mainstream
Not really. It's not what's generally considered entry level (about the time most people watch "old" shows before branching out to current ones), /a/ is no different from that.
KnK threads (this one included) generally go nowhere on /a/.
>Compared to what? Other anime?
Well, i can't really say that since anime is something that is produced in masses and 80% of it is just trash.
I'd say compared to what i would expect from a good book when people say it's AMAZING!
I think the novels just didn't translate well to the movies. If someone told me to make a movie script out of a nasu work I would make it even worse. It's not that the story itself is bad, it's just not presented in a good way. It's still enjoyable though, just kinda disappointing and sometimes pretty silly.
Visually it's perfect and the atmosphere is great. If I were talking about production values only I'd definitely say it's one of the best (if not the best) anime I watched.
>Kara no Kyoukai, Tsukihime
Visuals were gorgeous, animation was great, and the OST was excellent. Story had its ups and downs, but it definitely had some good ups. Going by that, it's overall a pretty good series. Also, the characters were to my liking.
I enjoyed all of them except 7, which I felt dragged way too long.
5 was so superbly well done that I tend to gloss over some minor gripes with the others.
The battles in each of them were a treat. Visuals, atmosphere, soundtrack, everything was nailed.
Characters are a bit older, but still have their fun quirks despite of that. You can tell Nasu was an amateur when writing some of it though. They paved the way for better characters in FSN/Tsukihime.
Quick /a/ do I unwrap the postcards or not
>Talking cock about Kajiura's magnum opus
Yeah, you can go back and fellate Sawano for all we fucking care, faggot. KnK's OST was easily better than say, SnK, Shit la Shit and Gundam Unicorn.
>But point is:
Kajiura is the lesser evil. She can actually be quite good if she tries. Sawano is a fucking hack tho. The Gundam Unicorn OST is overrated.
>All this Kajiura circlejerk
Damn, do you even listen to good composers?
Kajiura is literally only violins+female chorus every fucking time, as Anon says>>119544757 Noir was the only worthwhile Kajiura.
