I wish Utena was 26 episodes, I feel like it was really dragged out with how each duelist fought Utena 2/3 times, and the reason why they fought her was the same for everyone.
First with the letters, then with Souji Mikage, and lastly with Akio
The filler was alright, but could've done with less

They might have had the same instigators, but each character has unique motivations to duel.
Also, the duels serve to characterize and develop the cast, they are hardly filler.

Same instigators, that's what I meant to say.
It was a little boring because you knew that everyone was gonna fight her again and they were gonna play the same, or very similar, sequence leading up to the duel. And you knew Utena would be forced into a corner, then she'd get the powerup and win.
I liked some of the filler, don't get me wrong, but some of it, mainly the ones with Tsuwabuki, were bland and didn't really add anything.
The ending of the show was pretty good, I liked that.

Kaiji and Durarara! are both solid choices.(Especially since Durarara! is getting continuations through the year.) If you don't feel like watching those for whatever reason then at least watch Spice and Wolf or Jormungand.

If I were to rate them on how good they are, then:

3.Spice and Wolf
4.Jormungand

This is all relative and all 4 are all great fun and pretty damn good anime.

Even in all its wackiness, I find the movie a lot more straightforward than the TV series.

I suggest you rewatch the TV series before watching the movie, to catch the subtleties and hints that you missed in your first watch. As for characters, Anthy in particular is interesting to observe on a rewatch.

Not really, I kind of just stumble upon anime and if I get a certain feeling from it after watching an episode then I marathon the whole thing. It's kind of like an anime sixth sense where I feel drawn to a certain anime and I just start watching it, if I'm not feeling it then I don't watch it at all. Don't force yourself to watch stuff if you don't want to, the anime will come to you.
