Everything they use are waterproof. For obvious reasons.
Anyway they were probably deliberately going for the nautical theme, instead of aerial flying gear like every other show. It is a good method to stand out. The heavy chains, the large gears, the industrial equipment. Very much different and has an old-tech feel.
Seem like it would hurt for any BB to be equip like that, their back gear are pretty massive.
Rather than nautical equipping scene like that, I would've prefer if it was more "normal" equipping scene, like a crane slowly lifting the cannons and attaching the girl's back gear, maybe with fairy waving those traffic wand thing nearby Though this is interesting aswell.
I wonder if we'll get to see a scene like this everytime they sortie, would be interesting to see how the subs get equipped since those girls doesn't really have a lot of equipment except their torpedoes.

It is just too suspicious; why does Fubuki get so much attention out of nowhere? A level 1 Destroyer, of all things.
One of the various "canons" for kancolle is that they're just human girls with the spirits of the old ww2 ships inside them. So they remember their deaths and past events, which explains Fubuki dying before.

Nobody but pre-existing Kancolle fans will take the time to watch a shitty camrip. If there's going to be a spike then it needs to get non-fans on board and that won't happen until it actually airs.
Actual airing won't bring many new fans either. Episode was really bland even if CGI was better than expected.

Having watched this as a fan I have a hard time seeing what non-fans would get out of this... well, it's got cute girls.
The cast just seems too damn big for you to get to meet everyone. Though seeing as how the girls from the game only get thirty lines each, I guess it's not that hard.

I can't really say how anime only watchers will react, but it doesn't seem all that complicated to regular anime watchers. There are magical(?) mecha musume who fight the monster of the week. Done. Easy.

From a business perspective, Kancolle game is not the product, but a marketing tool for a franchise. Kadokawa has already admitted that they wish to gain profit from the merchandise instead of the game itself. People playing the game is the main marketing arm, talking about the girls, drawing about the girls and attracting secondaries to it. At least that's how I see it.
In terms of "characters", the only ones introduced were Fubuki, Mutsuki, Yuudachi, Kaga, Akagi, Sendai, Naka and Jintsuu. Maybe you could argue Nagato and Ooyodo. No one else was really a "character", at least not yet.

I'm just regurgitating what I read in the previous thread. My nip is not good so when Nagato was doing the roll call, I did not understand any words she was saying. The only way I'm seeing it is combined fleet + support, with CV or BB fleet being the main fleet.
That said, all of the discussion is kind of moot. For all we know, the studio is talking liberties in doing their own battle so we can't say whether is this the May event or not. Besides, May event doesn't even have Kongou kai2.
Artificial scarcity perhaps, probably shitty infrastructure or probably deterrence against bots? Who knows.

The Touhou decline isn't even as bad as people make it out to be, it's numbers just dropped at Comiket but balanced out throughout the year.

Until you get a few subs or unlock expedition 21, all you're going to get is expedition 5, sorry.
The simple issue is that there is literally no reason to ever spend money on Kancolle besides rings.
You can get every single ship, every single resource, everything pretty much trivially while spending no money at all, this is especially true now that everything in the game is well-documented so there's very little resource drains in the form of RNG experimentation.
Their only income comes from diehard fans who spend money on the game purely for the sake of helping the game.
I think that Kadokawa could potentially cash in pretty good if they started selling cosmetics and other non-gameplay cash items, but frankly I think they need to make Kancolle into an actual game for it to work out.
Touhou has been around for many years already. There is a mountain of difference between popularity and longevity.

They had already mention the game was not the focus but the merchandise spawning off from it. Let's hope KC kai on vita would be a more 'freemium' game.

That doesn't matter to the bottom line. Artificial scarcity is suppose to benefit the company by raising prices of the product you sell. But deliberately making it hard to play a F2P game doesn't increase profits.
The people getting locked out of a failed lottery are potential lost customers. There is no reward to frustrate people if they haven't paid you a dime yet.

I have other methods in mind, actually. Not necessarily drawing alternate sprites for everyone though, that might be too much work.
The browser game isn't a money making vehicle, it's used to generate hype and spread the word for the game. Since a new F2P player isn't a practice dummy for P2W player like in other games, there's no net benefit to attracting too many people. They'll want to keep their player base small and niche like Otaku sheep to sell their merchandise instead of risking alienating them by becoming too main stream.

Man, the nature of this whole damn game is to frustrate the player. The whole reason why the player has not left is the promise of cute girls. I think Japanese mobage works on a different level than what we expected.
I actually like the business model that Kancolle is shifting toward quite a bit.
They run the game itself (which is a non-game, to be frank) as a sort of promotional charity. This gets people hooked onto the characters in the franchise, and instead they make their money back in physical merch.
It's a surprisingly honest business model and I have to say I like it better than the ultra-jew western model of making millions of dollars by selling pixels to children.
I can't say how long the franchise will be able to survive on it though. Kancolle doesn't exactly maintain a steady stream of new things to go for.
There's actually a lot of reasons why the lottery is a really good thing to have. First of all, the fact of the matter is that most people won't just up and abandon the series if they can't get into the lottery once, if they're already trying to get in they're already interested in the series and will stick around for some time.
If they can't get into the game, they'll instead start getting into secondary material as a proxy or a tie-over. Reading doujinshi or manga online, watching the anime, watching Nico videos and MADs. This secondary material is the primary hook for the series, not the game itself, so it's ideal for Kadokawa if people start digging into it before actually getting to the game itself.
Furthermore, the game is not something with endless replayability by any means. It has very limited multiplayer content, and very limited content in general. It does not take a very long time at all for someone to get through most of the content by the end of the game and then stop playing, possibly abandoning the franchise altogether. However if they drag things out by letting only a few people in at a time then the later players will have much more content to get through than the early players, and will have old event ships and other uncommon things hanging in their face that will take much more effort to get than it did when they were first released.
Take Nowaki from the latest event for instance. Many older players considered the event to be extremely short and easy, but for those that either started playing recently and couldn't get to her or joined too late/missed the event, they will now have to go through hell if they want to get Nowaki (and more importantly Eugen) into their fleet at whatever point in the future they're rereleased.
There are probably even more reasons that I haven't even considered, but the point is that there's more thought behind the lottery than it might seem.

I like it, and I like the way that they include a lot of characters and having those characters be related to the story rather than adding them for no reason, also, Kuma and Tama are in so it's a wonderful first episode. Though I'll reserve my hype until after four or five episodes have pass, there's a lot of good show that start well but go downhill soon afterward.
I wonder how many events the anime will cover, seeing how they've already completely obliterated the first event with Anchorage.
I don't think there's anymore, from my limited experience, the other player that can rotate can only rotate in full 90 degrees and not free rotation.

Considering the ships that will appear, probably until summer 2013 but as I had earlier said, the team is taking liberties with the battle, so the event may not even be covered at all. Even so, we do not have any reports of subs appearing in the anime, if I remember correctly.

Oh yeah, we haven't really seen a lot of the SoL stuff in this episode, so strange of them to start the series off by blowing up the first event boss. Well I hope the SoL aspect include exploring how each of the game mechanic work, I want to see the writer try to come up with explanation for stuff like why we can only sortie four fleets when we can have up to a hundred girls or what are those blue goop in the bucket we throw on the girls.

My pet theory is simply that they have not even thought of it. The abyss are a hive mind except, there's no actual centralised command, every pocket or map has a boss that controls the abyss in that area. Once struck down, the whole abyssal fleet became disorganised and disbanded until a boss emerge again. The events are usually when an abyssal fleet almost reaches sentience and require a more powerful fleet to rid them off.
Even if you could send all your ships at once combined might of Abyss would completely obliterate you.
Sound like tyranids and a bit like the BETA, kill the central system and they just break down. This would explain why you can't do the events again since all the Abyss in those area turn harmless.
Assuming we have unlimited supplies against the Abyss then the girls can keep fighting aslong as you have repair or goddess fairies. Then again, we have no clear number on how large the Abyss forces is other than they manage to wrestle control of the oceans away from humanity.
It would probably get annoying real fast though, and you'll probably wake everyone in the fleet up.
