The way that works is a company buys limited rights to it, and will subtitle it or dub over it and re-release it, so you'd have to find a release done from an american company that includes subtitles option.

But even then, you may do that only to come to find out that there's only subs up to like, episode 160 or something, and that the rest have not been subbed because either the rights ran out, or they gave up subbing it due to poor sales or not enough attention. Good luck!

This anime is pretty much in the middle. And by that I mean it's both for guys and girls. Both for Otaku and for Fujoshi.

Accomplishing something like that is very hard, but sorachi, in my opinion, has done it nicely. Not only that, but he also managed to produce an anime in which there's literally more than one main character, and a little over half are guys, instead of the often used male and his female harem cliche.
