The main idea behind it:
When the Taisha saw the effect of Yuuna's sacrifice they concluded it would be better and safer for the world to scrap the hero system and go back to sacrificing girls to the Shinju-sama directly saving them the trouble of dealing with rebellious girls holding tremendous power. Apparently the higher the hero aptitude of a girl the more power she gives to the Shinju-sama and ever since no vertex was even able to damage the tree, the tree actually started to grow and gain more territory. The former heroes have been exempted from being sacrificed by direct request of the Shinju-sama.

Hey, Karin doesn't have it that bad. It's only her eyes and ears that she lost, not her memories full of sights and sounds. Every time she goes to sleep, she dreams vividly of the fun times she had with her friends in the Hero Club. Of course, most nights end up with her waking up in terror after a nightmare, flailing around in complete darkness and silence with half of her body until someone comes to calm her down, but even those nightmares are nothing compared to her waking hours. She'll slowly begin to retreat into her world of dreams more and more often, perhaps taking just enough sleeping pills to stay asleep but not enough that her fairies would remove them from her system. She'll be just fine, at least until her memories begin to fade. The voices and colors she once remembered so clearly no longer show up in her dreams, and all that's left are her own thoughts and her last remaining sense of touch. She'll only slowly begin to lose her ability to make the distinction between reality and dreams at that point, desperately trying to make sure she's sleeping as much as possible, for only within that hazy consciousness can she forget the pain. Any touch can be whoever she wants it to be, as who really cares who it is as long as she can feel their warmth? Unable to even die, her soul will just erode away until her mind peacefully vanishes after one last dream.
