I don't like Mirei because of how clingy she is. She's the sort of character who is funny to watch but who would be annoying to be around. Kind of like Nico, except I like Nico because she also has positive traits.

I agree with this, at least as their relationship stands in the anime as of the most recent episode. I actually think they've done a good job of portraying them as people who aren't really right for each other and as portraying Hatoko as someone whose attempts to advance her relationship are awkward and misguided.

I don't dislike Hatoko though, nor do I find her annoying. I guess it's hard for me to give my opinion on why I don't find her annoying without knowing why you do. If it's just her awkward attempts at advancing her relationship, I find that to make her an interesting character rather than an annoying one.
