The epilogues for Volume 6 and 13 contain vital plot points not included in the anime. Read those first if you really want to skip past what's already been adapted.

The anime covers the basic plot, but you miss a lot of thoughts and inner monologues from the LN, and most of Touma's fights also didn't translate well into an animated medium. The Deep Blood and Angel Fall arcs were also particularly butchered in the anime.
>>
>>118447212
If he bothered to learn any kind of unarmed combat skill, he wouldn't get the shit beaten out of him every time before saving the day with a single punch.

Depends on whether or not you take the scene where it did in Railgun seriously. But since that was adapting a scene that was in Index and the LN takes priority over its spinoffs, how canon that is is questionable.
>>
>>118448236
Yes, in the manga.
>>
>>118448320
It wouldn't block the coin, but the coin can't really go fast enough to do serious damage, it's more the lightning that does damage
>>

I think so. He disperses just about all energy attacks without a scratch, though I'm not sure the kinetic energy of the projectile is affected at all by the IB.

>>
>>118448443

Nope. Newer things take priority over the older. The Railgun manga is as canon as the novels. Retcons gonna be retcons.

Railgun is a source material. The hell are you on? If the author writes an overlapping scene differently than the first time, then it becomes the new canon.
>>
>>118448770

heat to melting point makes its easier to pierce

who the F did that calculation?

From Railgun we know the coins melts at 50M

and I think the 1st ep, of S1 during the test they mention the speed of the coins travels
>>
>>118448779
The only railgun block I recall in the manga is from the bridge scene which was from the LN originally
>>
>>118448779
But it's not THE source material. Also Kamachi didn't write that scene, Fuyukawa added it in on his own.
>>
>>118440824
The terrorist he spilled coffee on.
>>
>>118448887
~1000 m/s starting velocity and something like 18mm spread.
I don't mean to de-railgun the thread, but i'm really curious what melting point would the coin have to have to survive 50 meters. It's pretty surreal.
>>
>>118448831
Exactly, which is why if Touma negates the lightning (the magic part) he'd be fine
>>118448887
I'm not an expert on this by any means, but I don't see how it being hot makes it easier for it to pierce your hand if the force involved and time where it would be touching you is low enough.
>>
>>118449021
There's this thing called momentum that has to go somewhere on impact. It's a law.
>>
>>118448915
Kamachi writes the manga. Fuyukawa only adds things under his consent. Either way, it doesn't invalidate the canonicity of the scene in question and overwrites the original in the LN.
>>
I want everything that happened to Nicolas Cage in the Wicker Man to happen to Mikoto.

Especially the bees.
>>
>>118449106
It does because it has never happened in the LN after it happened in a side material.
>>
>>118448236
The firing of the coin is a really indirect thing. The only supernatural part of the whole ability is the beginning part where the coin is accelerated off of the "rails" of her hand. The actual motion of the coin is considered "normal". If Touma can't negate an object flying at him due to Accelerator's powers, he surely can't completely negate Misaka's railgun.

Unless someone can give us an example of when the railgun was blocked.
>>
>>118449021
That would be the force itself though not the temperature, this isn't like those metal balls that keep travelling no matter what. The force can go into your hand, it's why it was mentioned his hand might break from the force, but it doesn't just pop through it.

Kamachi writes the outline and important story moments. Like Touma in daihaseisai was completely fuyukawa's idea, kamachi just took advantage of it for dragons.
>>
>>118449138

It's said in the LN that Touma has negated a Railgun before. In the very first chapter
>>
>>118449138

I like to think that Misaka has only fired the Railgun at a human being twice in her life - once at Accelerator with killing intent and a cheap watered-down version at Gunha.

What Misaka actually fired at Touma was a sparkler which she refers to as the Railgun for show. It makes things both thematically and canonically consistent.

It's also blatantly non-canon, but there you go.

that would still involve contact with her, hence "Shock Spikes". sorry, I was useing a specific term from a game.
but everytime Thor came into contact to hit Mikoto he would still take damage from the electricity (most likely anyway, I'm not sure if the world shifting would apply faster than electricity would or how it would affect the hits)
http://www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Shock_Spikes
>>
>>118455494
This is only possible if Will-tan is playing the most massive shell game of all time, with all of her terminals as mere pieces with which to play the great game.

It would make for a really great AU but I'm not buying it.

>>118455496
My favorite part of any ED is near the end of SeeS Visions with Touma and the endless girl parade. It's such a riot.

If you slow it down you actually get a pretty fun short. Somehow of all the interactions, Maika sweeping him away on her Agathion is the best.
>>
>>118456187
It would have to be omnidirectional and Mikoto would have to somehow not be acknowledged by Thor for that to work, the world will literally put him in a position to make him win, that would be *not* where he would get spike'd
>>
>>118456258
That's what I'm questioning here (sorry if this may get annoying, I picked up a habit of constantly questioning and analyzing fantasy abilities from talking with a friend with a similar habit).
Mikoto has immunity to electricity, so there's nothing stopping her from basically turning herself into a ball of constantly running electricity as far as i can tell. In that state anytime she is touched by anybody they would be immediately zapped. It would only be for a brief moment, but i would still cause damage.
>>
I feel like the Science side doesn't stand a chance against the Magic side. If it wasn't for Aleister's plan to stop them from using magic, Academy City would be flattened in seconds. Magic just has constantly stronger people emerging, but Science only has a few people to even stand a chance against magic (Touma, the Level 5's), and even then, it's extremely hard for them to get stronger and they're already being outclassed. Accelerator is probably the only one who even stands a chance currently against Magic's strongest.
>>
>>118456335
Even doing that i really don't think almighty Thor would even be hurt by electricity.
>>
>>118456335
Yeah but at any time that Thor is looking at Mikoto he is put into a winning position against her, it doesn't matter when she does it he would be put outside of it by the world itself if it would mean he wouldn't win, it's like working your way around Gae Bolg, it rarely works.
>>
>>118456187

>he would still take damage from the electricity
I bet magic side or Marian can made magic item which can defy electricity also Thor is one who will study his opponent before fight.
>>
>>118456355
That's what the science angels and level 6 project are for, though lvl 6 is looking very far away.
>>
>>118456355
Academy City's aces in the hole are science angels Kazakiri and Aiwass, super-bullshit-user Noukan, all of which are capable of putting up a respectable fight (or way better) against a lot of high-powered players on team magic.

Obviously, those are only quasi-scientific to begin with, but even if you ignore those, their aces in the hole are probably:

- #1 and #2, the level 5s who managed to reach a higher level of existence, with #3 waiting in the wings
- the super retard with the potential to surpass Ollerus
- a legion of Rensas which have shown the capability to white wings with the best of them
- irregular weaponry: nanodevices, bioweapons, hallucinogens, and mind control with which to even the odds (AC is able to toe-to-toe Loki)
- the raw destructive capability to annihilate anything that can't withstand as much punishment as a Saint, though this is mostly only good for taking out the trash
>>
>>118456389
>Thor is looking at Mikoto
he doesn't have to looking at her
He had lost sight of Othinus, but that was not a problem for an almighty god.
The concept of distance was meaningless to him.
If necessary, the world would adjust for him. As long as she was on the planet that he held in his hand, he could instantly arrive in front of her even if she had fled to the other side of the world. Although technically, she would be arriving right in front of him.
>>
>>118456389
The only way Thor can't win against Mikoto if there is "no position from which he can win." I think it's speculated that he would draw with Accelerator for this reason.

Without that last piece of bullshit, I would say Mikoto would have a fighting chance, but Thor's power essentially makes it that: "if you can lose, you will lose," and Mikoto is definitely within that category.

It's still possible that Mikoto could abuse the environment to create herself a fighting chance the way that Touma was able to run him over with a train, but that didn't keep him down - and Mikoto probably wouldn't be able to do so either.
>>
>>118456557
>>118456630
It isn't that "If you can lose you will"otherwise Touma and the train wouldn't have won. It was for that reason that I was speculating that you have to see them, but maybe Thor just has to have them on his mind to do it. Regardless there's obviously *some* stipulation to it
>>
>>118456919
it was that like terra's priority spell it can only have one target. that is why othi got away at all. he dodges his opponent and their attacks because they are one in the same. the train hit because it was an outside element.

It's the only explanation I can think of for a womanizer like Katze getting elected and gun control being apparently completely non-existent (all those times they boasted that America is gun country)

The best way to kill Touma is to use powers indirectly, by creating a natural phenomenon with a supernatural cause.
"Rock fall, everyone dies" is not dispelled by IB, even if they fall because of power of some sort.

>Accel
He just needs to keep his distance and throw a lot of shit at Mach 3 speeds at Touma. Piece of cake.

>Kakine
IB probably cancels Dark Matter, but he can try to outdo Touma when it comes to endurance.
He can also use Dark Matter to affect his surroundings.

>Mikoto
If she has anything to throw at Touma with her magnetism, she can win, as long he has no opportunity to use Touma Punch™.

>Mugino
Only by destroying the surroundings or catching Touma off-guard (which with current Touma is pretty much impossible).

>Misaki
It is a little tricky. We know that her powers work on Touma and effects can be irreversible even when using IB, so normally it would look like this:
rm -rf - -no-preserve-root /
gg no re

But if Touma is prepared, he can constantly touch his head during the battle. If Misaki is alone, she gets punched. If not, she has to use other people so it all will depend on powerlevel of the others. However, with IB glued to his head, Touma would stand no chance even against mid-tier espers/magicians.

>Gunha
No one knows how do the GUTS work, probably not even Kamachi himself, but even if IB cancels super punches, Gunha still can create shockwaves and destroy surroundings around him. And I doubt Touma's punches would easily eliminate Gunha.

>>
>>118465111
During the first time Accel didn't understand what the fuck was going on and was constantly trying to touch Touma, which was a grave mistake. Actually the fight would be over after the fist punch, if Mikoto didn't fry Touma on the bridge.
Still, thanks to not being able to KO Accel, Touma almost died during their battle. He won only because Sisters dealt with the plasma ball and Accel acted like a retard at the end.

Now Accel knows that getting close to Touma is not the best idea, so he could use his ridiculous mobility to stay out of Touma's reach.
>>
>>118465553
Not really, in the first fight Accelerator were sending steel rails against Touma, but he was having only limited success.

>>
>>118463630
>Accel
Get out of "notice me Touma-sempai" mode and just cut him up with wind or some shit like that.

>>118463630
This is obviously true with the exception of #4 and #6. All the rest besides #5 can drop a physical city block on him, #5 can call in an Academy City bomber to drop a bunker buster on his head. Mugino could actually lose even if she went all out by herself because all she can do is collapse buildings on him, and Touma's precognition gives him the ability to find the gaps.

This is a RETARDED comparison, though. Touma is like a nuclear weapons officer. A crossbowman could kill him if he found him in the silo. That's not the point. Touma's primary strength is the people that he gathers around him (unless you count his ability to pull dragons out of a bag, in which case the previous combat analysis was also wrong.)

>>118466518

It was rather contrived I will admit. At the same time though everyone does know that she is now harmless, and *technically* speaking she never did kill the world, she still totally led a terrorist group but uh apparently that doesn't matter because she's trying to repent, and no one wants to get on Touma's bad side

The train hit him because it wasn't part of the battle. You target something and you hit it. Simple. It works like a much weaker Holy Right.

Misaka is not nearly strong enough to throw an actual city block at him. She does something comparable in Daihaseisai but that was when she was running Misaka 5.1.

I think people really overestimate Misaka's strength. If she was as effortlessly strong as people say she would have been able to stop the train that crushed 9982 without even thinking.

it didn't though, the fairy spell didn't weaken her. she was being ripped apart because she used the 100%win and 100%fail at the same time. she is actually still a magic god with most of her body destroyed. she may even recover over time.

Not exactly from her perspective.
>“You must forever watch the world of happiness you went as far as suicide to look away from. That is the greatest punishment humanity can give you now that we have achieved victory over a magic god.”

>>118472412
Remember that she had planned on killing herself from the start when she returned Touma's original world.
>>
“At that point, Magic God Othinus was 99% destroyed, but it seems the remaining pieces gathered together on their own. My body changed form somewhat and I can no longer use my former power, but it seems I have remained behind.”
It was absolutely ridiculous.
The idea of a human gathering together again after being smashed to pieces sounded like complete nonsense, but he could not question it further when he was talking about a magic god. If Othinus said that was how it worked, he could only accept it.
In fact, he himself had seen it happen before.
In that infinite hell, she had hidden the final crossbow shot behind herself and pulverized her own body along with his, but her body had soon regenerated as if nothing had happened.
(But would my body “automatically” re-form with no intervention from my will? I still have my questions about that.)
The small Othinus stared off into the distance, but Kamijou had a completely different question.

is it possible anybody other than crowley told the last bits othi to form up?

Read the fuckign LN. He gets called a hero and says he doesn't care about being a hero or a villain, the only thing he does is fighting to protect those in front of him who are suffering.
NT9 was all about how Touma and people's perception of him are flawed and NT10 had him as the whole world's enemy in a situation where everyone but a few peopel would call him a villain.

That description is actually pretty fitting for Touma too.

Moral subjectivism one again, which was the point of my previous point.

My point is that Touma never cared about being right, appreciated or anything.
He just saves people and that's it. What other people think of him matters little to the TouMAN.

It's kind of hard to be subjective when the dude (or dudette, as is so often the case) on the other side of the aisle has clearly gone full retard and is going to pointlessly kill a bunch of other people in their retardation. See: Accelerator, Sherry, any given member of the OT Catholic Church.

Or are you seriously going to argue that it's OK for a bitch to frag more than two million people because her little brother died in a freak accident?
