So, why exactly did they decide to bust their budget animating the same 9 episodes and then having to settle for a shit ending?
>>

>bust their budget

I don't think copypasting the same thing 8 times with minimal changes had a relevant cost
>>
>>118434016
So that fags would still be talking about it several years later. You gotta look at the big picture Anon. Haruhi would have dived into obscurity without a controversial second season. Where would Kyoani be today without taking such bold risks?
>>
>>118434307
I guess pissing your audience off is one of the building blocks of success in the anime industry. Just look at Evangelion.
>>
>>118434298
Well, the voices were certainly not reused, nor did the animations. The only thing consistent along all episodes was the plot, the rest was pretty much remade in every instance. Which means 8x the animation cost.
>>
>>118434298
They animated everything eight times and had VAs voice everything eight times.
The worst thing is that only thing they changed was the costumes and stuff. Hell, couldn't they show some variations that happened in that time?

Not sure if sarcasm...

This, Rei-clone kept mentioning there were different variations, they could have showed them. I skipped through the episodes to the end when I realized what was going on, just to see if at the end Kyon would finally realize what to do.

I thought he was going to kiss her, but oh well

Poor guy, comes out of a mental institution inspired to make a show, and receives death threats for it. Must feel terrible.

People are horrible, but that's ok, we have laws and things to discourage that, but that shouldn't stop people from being horrible in the first place. After it all, its their right as humans to be horrible to other people.

The more I watch the episodes the more excited that I get. They created 8 unique episodes. The magic is that our brain filters them all together. Our lives condense down into one short moment when we believe that every day is the same. Yuki on the other hand has no such notion, every day to her is unique, she has perfect memory and has to deal with the mental weight of that time repeating over and over again.

Disappearance wouldn't have been half the film it is without Endless Eight.

haruhi is popular enough to not get obscure from not having endless 8.

I felt that they almost killed the series with Endless Eight, but it was amazing how many fans and casual viewers glossed over it instead of raging with righteous fury like the good citizens of the internet did. So, I agree, that must have been testament to the success and popularity of the first season for fans to overlook the studio's failings.

>>
>>118435372

considering how popular s1 was nothing could have killed haruhi. Heck endless eight could have been 1 season long and then S3 would get back to full viewercount in 2 episodes, the only thing that would happen is that in every anime website they would place a small footnote to skip/skim through s2. And guess what, thats what already happened with endless eight as it is.

>Disappearance wouldn't have been half the film it is without Endless Eight.
I really don't feel like arguing this since this is a shitposting thread, but I hate that line of thinking, especially since Endless Eight was just one chapter in the books. It really has little bearing on Yuki's actions in the movie, as her actions were caused by her developing emotions, from her interactions with Kyon. Saying Disappearance really undermines all the things that happened that actually contributed to her development. I think one of the bigger ones I'd say is playing the game against the computer club. In short, endless eight really was unnecessarily long, but that doesn't mean it wasn't enjoyable. I loved it, I mean, but Disappearance is just fine without it.
>>
>>118438481
If you don't like Endless Eight, it just means you haven't watched it enough.
>>
>>118438481
It's worse marathoning it. Everything is fresh in your mind so it becomes all the more apparent that you're watching the same thing unlike when after a week you probably don't remember any exact lines.
>>

Wrong, endless eight had a great impact on Yuki in the books, too. It was heavily implied that she was extremly stressed by it which was one of the main causes of Disappearance. Yuki changed without endless eight, too, that's correct, but only very slowly. It was the time recursion that accelerated that.
>>
>>118438531
>I really don't feel like arguing this
You gave it your best Anon.

I'd counter argue that Disappearance makes little sense without the context that Yuki was driven (insane?) to the point where she would rewrite her own existence. Agreed, 8 episodes is far more then required to tell one chapter, but by stretching it out to make its own point carried a weight of its own. Ground hog day scenarios have been done better before, but not with so much mental weight attached to a character. They way did it created an excellent frustration within me, as my mind raced episode by episode to figure out a way for Kyon to escape the trap.

Endless Eight is the reason she had to listen to the man she loves approach her 15,000 times and never know what he was going to say. It had a big impact on her.

She wants someone to love her judging by her answer in Love at First Sight.

She needs people to understand her and care for her, not a lover. Kyon is like her brother.
>>
>>118439370
Is there any actual evidence that she loves Kyon?
>>
>>118439404
Depends on what your definition of love is.
