Well, the voices were certainly not reused, nor did the animations. The only thing consistent along all episodes was the plot, the rest was pretty much remade in every instance. Which means 8x the animation cost.

The more I watch the episodes the more excited that I get. They created 8 unique episodes. The magic is that our brain filters them all together. Our lives condense down into one short moment when we believe that every day is the same. Yuki on the other hand has no such notion, every day to her is unique, she has perfect memory and has to deal with the mental weight of that time repeating over and over again.

Disappearance wouldn't have been half the film it is without Endless Eight.

I felt that they almost killed the series with Endless Eight, but it was amazing how many fans and casual viewers glossed over it instead of raging with righteous fury like the good citizens of the internet did. So, I agree, that must have been testament to the success and popularity of the first season for fans to overlook the studio's failings.

I really don't feel like arguing this since this is a shitposting thread, but I hate that line of thinking, especially since Endless Eight was just one chapter in the books. It really has little bearing on Yuki's actions in the movie, as her actions were caused by her developing emotions, from her interactions with Kyon. Saying Disappearance really undermines all the things that happened that actually contributed to her development. I think one of the bigger ones I'd say is playing the game against the computer club. In short, endless eight really was unnecessarily long, but that doesn't mean it wasn't enjoyable. I loved it, I mean, but Disappearance is just fine without it.

Wrong, endless eight had a great impact on Yuki in the books, too. It was heavily implied that she was extremly stressed by it which was one of the main causes of Disappearance. Yuki changed without endless eight, too, that's correct, but only very slowly. It was the time recursion that accelerated that.

I'd counter argue that Disappearance makes little sense without the context that Yuki was driven (insane?) to the point where she would rewrite her own existence. Agreed, 8 episodes is far more then required to tell one chapter, but by stretching it out to make its own point carried a weight of its own. Ground hog day scenarios have been done better before, but not with so much mental weight attached to a character. They way did it created an excellent frustration within me, as my mind raced episode by episode to figure out a way for Kyon to escape the trap.
