I don't think Digimon really tackles that, doesn't it? It's more of a positive vibe series/franchise. It has never tackled the black and grey morality of an antagonist. Cause most of the evil Digimon we encountered are jerkasses or pure evil.

I wouldn't say there's a lack of ambiguity either, except in adventure. It's more that digimon is bloody ruthless for those that won't earn redemption, they don't go for the you shall not kill angle many shonen/comics have.

To add to this, it was proven in the Adventure PSP game that Takato wouldn't tell Taichi that he knows him from an anime, to quote, "Because it doesn't seem right to tell him that."

Takato of all the leaders is the most introverted by comparison to all the leaders, but he's up there in terms of being sensible with Taiki just ahead of him. While he is undoubtedly a fanboy of Taichi, he still has more than enough tact to not spill his guts and reveal things Taichi doesn't need to know about.

Pokemon in general is just a lot simpler and easier to pick up. You can kinda start on any season and get the gist of it but not really with Digimon. Plus I think Digimon tends to have a lot of darker things happen like killing Digimon, even if they in many cases just go back to being digi eggs. It's a hard sell and the overall designs are not easy on the eyes for everyone.

Pretty much. Besides, Taichi is Takato's hero. It was pretty funny in the game to see Guilmon almost bust him by saying "Takato, don't you have a poster of--".

That led to an interesting conversation of Takato telling Taichi he's a "famous tamer" and asking for a handshake.

Personally, what I like about Takato is his character development. Sure, he was just a normal kid in the beginning to wanted to be more than that. Dealing with everything else that came after is a good show of his maturity, and I find that refreshing.

Sorry for digressing, though. That said, I like all the leaders in their own ways.

For all the shit-talking about seasons there is around here, I find it easier to enjoy the seasons for what they are. After all, if Digimon never changed, it would be no different than Pokemon formula-wise.

Variety is the spice of life, after all. People will always have a preference towards something, but to adamantly dislike what's different and to not give it a chance is the reason why Digimon has so badly in the west. Season comparisons are inevitable, but I suppose that's just how it is.

The problem is that people tends to focus in the negative points of the seasons they disliked. That and many people frown upon changes, as seen in the large number of the fanbase that stopped watching digimon at 02 or tamers and denies the existence of latter shows.
