what resolution dose /a/ download anime?
im really torn as to if 1080p is worth the extra 200+ mb of extra data to have it look slightly better over 720. i can tell the difference and i want to future proof my archive. give it a few years do you think the extra memory will even be worth thinking about? player makes a difference as well 720 can look just as good as a 1080 on the right player. HALP

>>118278836
TV 720
BD 1080
>>
>>118278836
1080p is just an upscaled version and isn't true 1080p.
>>
>>118278836
If you can tell the difference then why the hell you archiving crunchyroll rips, nigga?
>>
>>118278882
Yeah, that's pretty much the long and short of it.
TV/CR encoding is going to dull any advantage the higher res has, and you'd wait for the BD fixes before you went for archive quality anyway.
>>
That anime is a shit.

No plot and no development.
>>
>>118278836
Lurk more faggot.

guess your right. looking at the BD screens of F/SN is night and day vs the TV
however alot of the time i cant seem to find blu ray rips of the shows i like hence why i still don't have 1080p zetsubou sensei
>>118278946
fuck you i like it
>>
>>118278836
Don't bother with 1080p at the TV (or in that case, CR rip stage). It will barely make any difference. Even with BD rips, it still won't make a difference for most TV anime, because they're never animated at anything close to that resolution. The only time 1080p will really make a noticeable difference is for older shows that were remastered from film, and really high budget movies. 720p will be fine for everything else.
>>
720 because my monitor can't get the full benefits of 1080 and that extra 200mb kills my cap.
>>
720p for TV, and for BD's 1080p as it looks better on my 2560x1440 monitor.

Wow, new capthca let me post without entering a captcha for the first time.
>>
>>118279046
Did they even do BDs of SZS?
I get the feeling it may be DVD only.
>>
720p is enough to satisfy IMO. 1080p if i know its worth it. Why? Because 50gb bandwith caps

ahh thats much cheaper than the quick search i looked for. would possibly buy if subbed. why don't japan do this?? they would make so much more money
>>
>>118279213
Not every country has amazing internet.
>>
Is there any point in downloading the upscaled version if you use MadVR?
>>
>>118279237
No but in every decent country you can at least find an ISP that doesn't put limits on how much you can download, especially insanely low limits like 50GB.
>>
>>118279229
They probably wouldn't though. The amount of extra sales they'd get by adding subs would be pretty insignificant in terms of Japanese pricing. Subtitling BDs is difficult, so they probably figure it isn't worth the effort.
>>
Doesnt your own player do a better upscaling anyway?
>>
I download 1080p because I have 4TB of HD space and 7MB/s download.
>>
>>118279270
Not without retarded prices, especially in some areas.
I used to have satellite internet, $70 a month (including home phone, so about $50) for 3gb a month, because we lived in an awkward spot.
>>
>>118279308
well it looks good but there's still a slight difference i notice when i put it next to a 1080. for a show like this just went with 720 but with bigger stuff im gonna go with 1080. then get the blu ray if i find it
>>
>>118279312
i have enough money to easily buy a new external when its used up but just because i have the space doesn't mean i should use it carelessly. however give it a few years it will be a none issue and we will all be arguing over 4k anime or something
>>
>>118279411
How big will 4k anime be?
>>
>>118278836

Get the fuck out and stay out.
>>
>>118279433
This guy said what I would have said if I wasn't in a good mood today.
>>
>>118279429
Not very, because it won't be something we'll ever get.
>>
>>118279429
little big.

Anime made in 4K won't happen before several decades.

If they could upgrade to a 1080p standard it would be a huge step already.
>>
>>118279481
Never mind that shit. Raise the average frame rate.
>>
>>118278836
>implying 480p isn't the best resolution
It's small and playable in any device.
>>
>>118279530
720p should be playable on any device. It's fucking 720p.
>>
>>118279538
720p is still a bit laggy on my phone.
>>
Has anything been produced in true 1080p aside from Nyaruko S2?
Because you might as well save some space otherwise.
>>
>>118279346
>Satellite internet
Where did you live? Antarctica?
>>
>>118279519
Frame rate won't change, this isn't live action where you can change the camera's FPS.

Increasing the amount of frames means having to actually draw them.

It's much easier to upgrade to higher resolutions if there is a need for increased quality.

what you watch anime on your i-watch or something gay like that?
>>118279519
its been done it and looks silly. if you really want it there's programs that will fill in the gaps
>>
>>118279599
That's exactly what I was asking for. More key frames.
>>
>>118279580
How big is the screen? If it's not even 5 inches then you might as well not bother watching stuff on it at all.
>>
>>118279581
Little to no TV anime have been. Film remasters can be MADE in 1080p, and I imagine a fair amount of movies are, but apart from that anime is mostly produced at 480p, from what I understand.

Grisaia might be. Otherwise they're all mastered at 720p or some percentage of 1080p.
>>
>>118279581
Kyoani is getting there.

Hyouka was 900p.
>>
>>118278836
If you have a good media player 720 is the best for TV and BD unless the anime is actually drawn in 1080p (nyaruko w)
