That's what they get for starting the war.

I didn't know the bomb had parachutes.
But great animation,
>>
It's depicting one of the least funny things ever but I can't help but laugh at that scene. The old dude who's head inexplicably flies off and the baby's ridiculous face as it flutters towards the ground.

More like "b-but non-combatants were the victims", which also goes for the firebombing of Dresden that nobody ever talks about.

right, because righteous, honorable Japan (substitute with "glorious master race" if you like) would never harm non-combatants
>>

das just a test brah, part of operation ivy
>>
>>118211684
it's to slow down the descent to give the bomb crew a chance to fly to safety
>>
>>118212014
Nice, but that's not what I was saying and you knew it. Of course they harmed non-combatants, they did some supervillain shit, but nothing ever justifies targeting non-combatants. It was wrong when Japan did it, it was wrong when Germany did it and it was just as wrong when America and Britain created a firestorm that sucked in 9999 billion German civilians and nuked the nips twice.
>>
>>118211950
fucking kek
>>
>>118212204
And you know as well as I that Dresden and both nuke targets were centers of heavy industry supporting their relative country's war machines.
>>
>>118211747
Well the scene was a bit ridiculous with the eye's popping out and the melting. People would be incinerated near instantaneously.

I don't know why they act like the nuclear bomb was the most horrific thing that happened. The US took more lives during the firebombing Tokyo. And I can tell you I'd much rather be destroyed in a nuke then be burned alive.

Though nukes are scary things and it's a great way to garner sympathy.
>>
So, who was the luckiest.

The ones working underground or the ones that died in ground zero?
>>
>>118212526
If the goal was to cripple the already-pretty-crippled Axis war machine, they catastrophically failed and used the most excessive measures possible. Nukes to destroy industrial centres? Literally 24/7 firebombing for days at a time?

Here's an extract from a memo sent to RAF airmen who were about to go bomb the shit out of some Germans for the laughs of it.

"The intentions of the attack are to hit the enemy where he will feel it most, behind an already partially collapsed front... and incidentally to show the Russians when they arrive what Bomber Command can do."

Note the second part. And then that psychopathic "reap the whirlwind" bullshit.

As for the Jap nukes, this was written by the Target committee:
"It was agreed that psychological factors in the target selection were of great importance. Two aspects of this are (1) obtaining the greatest psychological effect against Japan and (2) making the initial use sufficiently spectacular for the importance of the weapon to be internationally recognized when publicity on it is released.

B. In this respect Kyoto has the advantage of the people being more highly intelligent and hence better able to appreciate the significance of the weapon. Hiroshima has the advantage of being such a size and with possible focussing from nearby mountains that a large fraction of the city may be destroyed. The Emperor's palace in Tokyo has a greater fame than any other target but is of least strategic value."

Neither Dresden nor the nukes on Japan were about destroying industry (and even if they had, who the hell can justify the civilian casualties that ensued). They were, funnily enough, the type of shit that'd be instantly branded "terrorism" today. Let's scare the shit out of some (already basically defeated) countries by killing hundreds of thousands of non-combatants, that'll show the bastards.
>>
>>118212697
Did you see the rest of the film? And Pika Don? Unless they are both wrong in their portrayals, many people did not die on the spot, but burned slowly, skin peeling off etc.
>>
>>118212824
These "basically defeated" countries you speak of were determined to draw the Allies into a protracted war of attrition. The Japanese home islands were so incredibly fortified that the psychological effect you cited was mainly to force their hand into surrendering. The US Navy and Marines had already incurred tremendous losses at Midway and Guadacanal and would not have been able to crack Japan without similar incessant raids to Dresden. The nukes may have ended up saving more lives (both American, Japanese, and the people living in lands occupied by Japan) than they took.

As for Germany? Remember that being "basically defeated" meant that they were free to throw around the crazy shit they've been developing and hiding because they literally had nothing to lose. Towards the end of the war was when the V2s started to fly. Though they were relatively inaccurate and inflicted only superficial damage, the fear of these early cruise missiles that were promising to be long-range and uncounterable meant that the pressure was high on the Allies to end the war quickly, which meant breaking the will of the enemy.

That memo you cite is a secondary source at best. You also noticeably posted an "extract" with no context. Great job.

Nigga please. Nukes are the best invention to come out of the first half of the 20th century. It's why we didn't have another world war in the second half, despite the US and USSR wanting to bite eachother's faces off. Yeah, it sucks that a bunch of nips died, but eggs and omelets.

>That memo you cite is a secondary source at best. You also noticeably posted an "extract" with no context. Great job.

Want the full thing? Here:
>Dresden, the seventh largest city in Germany and not much smaller than Manchester is also the largest unbombed builtup area the enemy has got. In the midst of winter with refugees pouring westward and troops to be rested, roofs are at a premium, not only to give shelter to workers, refugees, and troops alike, but to house the administrative services displaced from other areas. At one time well known for its china, Dresden has developed into an industrial city of first-class importance.... The intentions of the attack are to hit the enemy where he will feel it most, behind an already partially collapsed front... and incidentally to show the Russians when they arrive what Bomber Command can do.

>the pressure was high on the Allies to end the war quickly, which meant breaking the will of the enemy.

So in an effort to "break the will of the enemy", I guess anything goes, including mass slaughter of civilians. Never mind that Germany was basically a pile of rubble by 1945 and Japan was crippled, the people starving, the navy fucked and firebombing having already destroyed plenty of cities. Japan was actually trying to enter ceasefire talks, but the Allies (rightly) refused to accept anything other than unconditional surrender.

But even then, you'd think that horrors like the use of nuclear bombs would be an absolute last resort, especially against a nation that's making pathetic attempts to save face while getting a ceasefire.

For more fun, here's Truman himself commenting on the nukes:
>"The world will note that the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, a military base. That was because we wished in this first attack to avoid, insofar as possible, the killing of civilians."

I think he must have slept through whatever explanation of the nukes was given to him.

It depends on your distance from the blast. The people up close were incinerated, while the people far away were simply irradiated. There were, however, an unfortunate group of people close enough to be burned but not close enough to die instantly. They mostly died in makeshift hospitals over the next few months.
>>
>The emperor and his faggots were part to blame for US causing 250k+ deaths with 2 bombs
>Royal Family is still around and kicking
Fucking beta faggots. Though saying America is completely innocent is bullshit.
