>King Arthur
>can't even be placed on a single century due to anachronisms in his legends
>totally real, was also a little girl

Makes perfect sense.
>>
Nasu is bigger fan of western mythology and history than eastern mythology and history. Why does this surprise you?
>>
Fate will be so much better if saber was graham chapman
>>
Being able to cut a swallow with a sword is impressive in real life, but trying to hype it up in the Nasuverse where every other object in motion is breaking the speed of sound it isn't very impressive.
>>
Nasu apparently read a bunch of stuff about him probably not being real, so he added that into the story.
>>
>>118127627
Well, it's just a matter that Arthur existed in Fate's universe while Kojiro apparently didn't. The legends being remembered and consistent or not doesn't matter. Of course, it's completely arbitrary.

The Fuyuki Grail can't summon oriental Heroic Spirits because it's based on occidental knowledge (european magi).

I just started the UBW anime and am unfamiliar with the series. Is Saber being King Arthur the most chuuni thing about Fate or does it get worse?

Chuunishit is a meme that doesnt actually mean anything
>>
You assume that this information is about what is factual within the real world, not the world that Nasu constructed.

In the Nasuverse, Saber was summoned because the Holy Grail contacts the Throne of Heroes, inconsistency is impossible because the legend doesn't matter in a certain sense.

Caster's unusual summoning basically just empowered a ghost to Servant levels. The actual ghost receives the memories of the real Sasaki, but they aren't his because the guy himself isn't Sasaki.
>>

Chuuni refers to the phenomena of a certain time period ion a child's life where they want to establish something special and unique about themselves, but being a child and lacking anything unique, turn to obnoxious behaviors or retreat into fantasy.

This behavior is for some reason exceptionally prevalent in japan, thus the term "chuuni."
>>
>>118129004
That's no where near the definition of chuunishit. You might as well say every porno ever is chuuni if you're going to say that of all things is chuuni.

Still makes no sense. Why do European magi have zero knowledge of even the most famous Eastern heroes, but know about ones like Angra Mainyu, or Rashid ad-Din? Also if the Grail's summoning ability is based on the knowledge of European magi, how can it summon someone like Emiya - who doesn't even exist yet and never took credit or was recognized for any of the deeds he did in life?

It sounds more like Nasu is pulling arbitrary rules out of his ass, because he realizes the nature of location bonus means Eastern heroes are obviously too OP in Japan.

There is a chance that Sasaki Kojiro existed.
But he was most likely not the most famous swordsman in Japan.

>>
>>118129731

Your definition qualifies an enormous number of things as chuunishit, including something like Fist of the North Star.
>>
>>118129650
>He has as many magic circuits as an average human

Wrong, average humans don't have magic circuits. Even just counting magi, you're still wrong: Shirou has 27 circuits, and Nasu said average magi have around 20. You're right about them being poor quality though - they can only carry about 1/10th of the mana Rin's can.

Shirou is basically a lot like Kerry in that he can never really aspire to be anything beyond an average magus when it comes to traditional magic, but he has an absurdly strong specialty that he could become a very deadly opponent.
>>
>>118129748

Assassin is a geist that received the possible potential memories that would constitute the Spirit of Sasaki Kojirou, including the fact that he factually did not exist in the Nasuverse.

So yes.

It's an 18+ eroge targeted at adults. Even when you take the sex scenes out its audience is still mostly adults.

Cause when you actually sit down and read it you realize that the bulk of the novel is actually very slowly paced SoL scenes laced with foreshadowing and building anticipation. UBW, the most action packed route, has maybe 10 major action scenes, compared to the dozens of cooking, talking, and school scenes used for fleshing out characters, background, and foreshadowing.

Basically any kid who sits down to read F/SN looking for action (or sex) is going to get bored halfway through the prologue once they realize how long the story is and how much exposition it entails.

The tone is what sets chuuni apart from stuff like battle shounen. FSN has a more dark atmosphere and takes itself very seriously within the actual narrative. Not to mention all the power ups and shit. Chuuni takes on similar qualities from shounen, except aimed towards older teens and adults, hence the darker and more serious tone. A lot of the time it comes off as ridiculous, with shit like 11eyes being one of the most extreme cases of poorly written chuuni.

Yet very few children actually like F/SN. If it appeals to a "childlike" mindset then why aren't there more children reading the all ages version of it? For starters chuunibyou is used to describe behavior in people, their mannerisms or taste or sensibilities, it's not a genre of entertainment. A person can be chuuni, an anime can't.

Next, you're trying to make it sound like there are universal qualities all chuunibyou possess, so that you can claim certain shows or games or novels are inherently chuuni, but this is not the case. Chuunibyou is widely applied to any kind of adolescent pretensions or delusions. A kid who tries very hard to act like a "mature adult" by only drinking black coffee, reading high brow philosophical texts in public, dressing in an exaggeratedly proper fashion, and opining on politics and moral issues while frowning on "low brow" entertainments is also a chuuni just as much as a sperg who thinks he's the chosen one and has a 50000000 year old demon imprisoned in his left nut or whatever.

Last, just because many chuunis do like a thing doesn't make the thing bad or "inherently chuuni," because chuunibyou is about the person's attitudes and behaviors, how they approach things.
>>
>>118130804
Gonna have to explain to me how you reasoned out F/SN's fans being manchildren, cause from here it looks like plain old circular logic BS.

Basically you define the fans of F/SN as manchildren because they read F/SN and then try to say F/SN is intended for manchildren because that's who reads it.

Never mind the fact that you're just operating on a typically biased no true scotsman version of "adulthood".

It's a strain of "Mature anime for mature people such as myself" mentality that bashes chuunibyou. Basically pot calling kettle black.

Did that happen in Germany? It should have because I'm pretty sure wolves have been extinct in Japan for like 150 years. And even then Japanese wolves were wimpy compared to European ones.

>it's not a genre of entertainment. A person can be chuuni, an anime can't.
That's a narrow way of thinking. Descriptors like this are used in Japanese all the time. For example denpa can be used to refer to someone who is mentally deranged, but the term can also be used to describe literature, films, etc. It's the same thing with chuuni.

>Chuunibyou is widely applied to any kind of adolescent pretensions or delusions.
I'll agree with the fact that there are many facets to chuuni. But in reference to entertainment, it usually involves magic battles, teenagers obtaining some power from some ancient god or spirit, references to ancient mythology or history, things borrowed from Western culture, etc. Hell, if you check the Japanese definition for it you'll find these common traits.

Like you said, chuuni isn't inherently bad like everyone makes it out to be. Just take a look at Dies Irae and Muramasa. They are considered chuuni among both Western and Japanese fanbases along with Nasu's works, but they are also highly praised.

Anon, this is called stereotyping, it's done for the purposes of making fun of a topic. Yes, those are things that a lot of chuunibyou are into. But so what? Are you going to call drinking black coffee a chuunibyou trait? What about reading Dostoevsky or Kant or Nietzsche? Learning dead languages? Wearing jewelry? Why are only some things "chuuni things" because chuunibyous like them and others aren't?

Is it because urban fantasy anime/manga/LN/VNs are safe targets that are already scorned for other reasons while others are things "proper adults" do?

Yes, I know there are tendencies among chuunibyou to gravitate to certain titles more than others, but you're selectively ignoring those that don't fit your predetermined opinion (or the satirist's opinion) about what a stereotypical chuunibyou is.

It's pure arbitrariness.

Holy shit the adaption is as dull as the VN. One would think they would trim the vast amounts of nothing happening at all.

Ufo said weeks and weeks ago that they were planning on adapting every bit that they could. The anime is completely fanservice.

It's not "nothing happening," there's always stuff going on. If you aren't paying attention then you clearly don't care about the story, characters, or setting. So just go watch the DEEN movie of UBW since it's exactly what you're looking for.
>crams in every fight possible in a span of 90 minutes
>skips over exposition, characterization, and world building, including playing the opening credits over the prologue scenes
>rearranges events to make the story lurch from one fight to the next almost nonstop
There you go, F/SN: UBW minus all that wearisome dialogue and character development.

>It's not "nothing happening,"

Yes, it is. The VN has gross pacing issues. You could skip half of it and not really miss anything.

Reading comprehension.

Does children = chuuni, and if it doesn't then what about being chuuni makes it bad?
>>
Why are there no american heroes?
There are heroic spirits from the 1800s like okita.

You'd miss a lot of worldbuilding and foreshadowing. Those things may not be important to everyone but some people like them.

I don't remember, but was it said what Rin used as her catalyst for EMIYA?
