Can we have an LN thread?
What are you reading?
Pic related, one of the best LN for two volumes. Then it feels like you're reading fan fiction.
Just realized I didn't answer the question myself. Also a good way to shamelessly bump this thread.
What are you reading?
I'm only reading Yahari at the moment. Dropped Kamisu Reina and Shield Bro because the former was a bit lackluster and the latter had a manga which felt like it was better than the WN.
Waiting for the next volume of HakoMari to see where this train wreck is headed.
I also read Gekkou which I wholeheartedly recommend. I suppose that ended up being more than "What are you reading?".
A vast minority I would assume. I'm aspiring to be one in the future, been teaching myself japanese quite slowly.
The first thing I'd want translated is a manga to be quite honest. Ib - Instant bullet. If you know moon, then you won't know my pain which is wait for months for a 17 page chapter.
I really don't think so. Volume one is the strongest but
After MC starts to tell us about his tear drinking fetish it goes down quite quickly. Also the change in tone and characters is insane. The characters does a 180 in an extremely short time.
Tell me, did they hate the entire series or just the most recent volumes? I can't find any sales numbers on google.
Shame he is a good author and can create decent characters and good chemistry between them.
Not really, volume 1 foreshadows a lot of the craziness. The Main Character's unnatural attachment to everyday life, Maria's self-sacrificing nature. etc, etc.
Hell, if you didn't feel there was nothing wrong with Daiya then you clearly weren't reading too deep into it.
A complete change in characters, tone. Some of the characters are honestly hard to recognize in the later chapter.
I read the entire thing within the span of a couple of days so I may have missed something, but honestly I didn't notice any foreshadowing.
The translation is now up to date. The pacing is so fast that I thought it was getting canned, but it turns out
vol1-3 is just a prologue
I'm interested in pic related, for reasons. But I can't into moon.
Think anyone will actually translate it?
Did the translator of this die or something?
>MC should have the mind of a 90 year old
>still acts like "oh no my virgin eyes"
>Welcome to my page. I like to drink tea, read books, and listen to epic music :) I apologize if it feels like I've disappeared, but I promise that I'm still alive and translating.
>I expect the chapter that I'm working on right now to be completed by... December.
>Current Project: Tenkyou no Alderamin
From his Baka-Tsuki page.
I'm on the last volume of Sayonara Piano Sonata and also waiting for:
HakoMari (Last volume fucking when)
Rakudai Kishi no Eiyuutan
Rakuin no Monshou (translations never)
Makes sense. Actually interested in that mahou shoujo series for the simple reason I have no idea what it's about other than, you know, being a mahou shoujo series.
Some months ago the author said on twitter he'd get to it after volume 2 of the mahou shoujo LN, which came out last month.
I liked the first best, but I ment that the first two volumes are the best. Meaning I didn't like the direction it took.
I can't recognize the characters anymore man. And that is really wrong when we've been in the head of Kazuki for the entire duration of 6 volumes.
Seems like a faggot, I just checked the talk page and apparently he refused help as well because of muh project.
And he switched from November to December already, guess I'll stop hoping this ever happens.
>The characters does a 180 in an extremely short time.
It was foreshadowed from chapter one. Every single damn character had some kind of dark vibe that implied they had a lot more to them than it seemed at first.
Kazukihad by far the most foreshadowing and after rereading the whole thing twice I can assure you that he never changed in the first place. The guy was insane since before the first volume and was simply held back by his attachment to his everyday life and the need to be as "normal" as possible.
>Some months ago the author said on twitter he'd get to it after volume 2 of the mahou shoujo LN, which came out last month.
You missed a tweet. About 2-3 weeks ago he mentioned that he had started working on Hakomari's final volume.
I suggest rereading the first few, while keeping in mind all the things we learn about Kazuki in the later novels. You'll find the craziness was always there from the beginning.
Why's that? I know one series where the translator requested deletions of his work because of butt-hurt (he didn't like having his stuff checked for errors by others) but is there really a stigma for being associated with BT?
This one appealed to so many of my fetishes. It's left me with a nice feeling of it in hindsight, although the lack of a sequel or cameo of these characters in other works was irritating.
Their translations get labeled as B-T everywhere and since Shield Hero and Mushoku Tensei showed up most of the degenerated even more than ever or have become simply machine translations.
And therefore some started their own page to post the translations.
I think the small scale of it was nice, though. I read it for the chemistry between the two leads, and I don't particularly want to see more characters or and expanded setting.
Well, you can always pretend that they're the MC in Yahari
Recently bough volumes 4-6 of Book Girl and am waiting for Christmas to enjoy it while drinking hot coffee.
Finishing up Daimaou just for the sake of completion and waiting for someone to finish translating the Chest chapter from Tsukumodo Vol 3.
Aw shit, I just realized a couple of volumes of Etsusa Bridge were translated.
I wish people would be willing to get together and work on the fifth volume. I also hope it doesn't take the author another nine years before he publishes the first novel in the second part.
Last good thing I read was Imasugu Yametai Ars Magica.
It's about a magical girl who hates being a magical girl and wants to quit after 8 years (she's already about to graduate high school), but can't until a new fairy appears to start a new team.
It's really, really funny.
Currently reading Campione! after DxD left a hole that needed to be filled.
I really hope MC grows some balls soon, Erica teasing him so often and getting away with it is gettting really annoying.
Started reading this earlier.
Keeping me interested so far.
Reading Yahari right now.
>I made a bitter, forced smile. While my mouth twitched, sitting next to me was Hayama who put down his cup.
>“I don’t think I like that very much…”
Why does Hayama defend Hikigaya now, why did he even go on the date in the first place.
Most volumes are pretty low on content. 3-4 300 page LNs per year are probably around the equivalent of one "Look at how thick my epic fantasy series is" volume in English.
And of course for every author who busts out thousands of pages a year there are those who can't be assed to do anything at all, (IS guy I'm looking at you).
The last LNs I've read were Mii-Maa 1 and "Inakunare, Gunjou". Enjoyed both of them. Currently, I'm reading Realia and "Satougashi no Dangan wa Uchinukenai". Kinda putting the former on hold for now.
>> Tsukumodo Vol 3
It's coming along.
That would be news to me.
Wish he'd come out with another volume for Vamp!
A Zero no Tsukaima-like with the main girl confessing in the first volume
Volume 2 translation never
Finished reading last volume of CSR. Best girl win and I'm happy now.
This is where I'm currently at. Took me forever to read from the Anime end until now.
Apart from that I've read SAO to where the Anime is right now. Didn't want to start Alicization since a friend of mine said the fan translations have stopped since it was licensed and the official translations are at the beginning still.
Also have some spice and wolf novels lying around which I wanted to do next, from Volume 8 onwards.
I'm reading that too right now, at the last quarter of the first volume. I like how deadpan Sherie/Sherry/Shellie/Cherie/however you'd spell that in non moon is. The confession at the cafe was pretty funny. But apart from that I feel it's pretty average.
currently waiting for the next volume of Mushoku Tensei, its amazing so far
Kazuki was always a crazy bastard. His crazy attachment to normality reminded me of normalfag from Working, so seeing the payoff of how much of a crazy bastard he actually was once he moved to a different fixation was satisfying.
The first time when he goes full crazy was great.
No, it's largely well-received, although certainly not a bestseller. I mean, just look at the ratings at bookmeter.com and Amazon.
Mikage even said himself that it's selling fine.
Been reading psychic detective yakumo, so far it's good but then I realized after 2 volumes, all cases ended in similar manner of the stupid girl kept getting herself caught and the MC came to rescue her. That and also all the people involved in each case were related to the main cast in some ways so it got redundant quickly.
Hitogami told me that if I read Mushoku Tensei first, I would regret it.
>finished all translated 21 volumes.
> I am in despair! Wtf do I read now!?
Should have listened to his advice.
Is there an estimate on when the final volume will be out? I need to reread the series to refresh my memory. HakoMari is probably the only LN series not written by Nisio that I've truly enjoyed.
Reminder to read Book Girl so Yen Press can license the rest of the volumes already.
Man, that sounds comfy. What do you think of the series, so far?
Not all of them are side-stories. IIRC the Koisuru novels (4 volumes) are 100% side stories, while Minarai (3 volumes) is a sequel with Konoha and a kouhai girl. There's also one last volume set several years after Tohko's graduation.
They could at least release this last one.
I tried reading Monogatari Killer Killer, but it was fucking boring, and it was nothing like Monogatari, more like Isshuukan Friend the Detective Story. Baccano is kinda interesting, but the prose is not great.
Well shit, that sure was fast.
I read the manga and it's pretty decent. I heard it gets a lot better after a while. If you're not too sure about it, you could just read the fan translation of the first volume.
>Pic related, one of the best LN for two volumes. Then it feels like you're reading fan fiction.
Vol 2 was the worst. Vol 3 and 4 are the best right after Vol 1. Did we read the same LN?
Anyone reading pic related? It's nice having a fantasy story where the MC isn't some otaku from glorious Nippon who re-incarnates/teleports into medieval fantasy times. The military structure and society are built pretty well so far. Also, two volumes in and there doesn't seem to be any real harem hijinks (I'm looking at you, Vanadis). Translations are pretty steady, too.
Phrasing was weird I guess, but I only meant that compared to many other stories with such harem hijinks, the females were decent(Ellen is pretty cool, lim is not too annoying early and shes even getting deredere, Ludmilla is also decent. I havent read your pic related, seems interesting tho
>manga translation are both bad and dead as fuck
>no LN translation
Anyone read this?
I read it a couple of weeks ago, the whole thing marathoned because a lucky break of work.
I'd say it's good. I liked how the author plays with POVs, and turning points and manages to have a well structured setting and pacing.
Shut up monkey.
It is hard to tell because has a lot of elements not well received like game stuff, a "special skill" that makes the MC OP, etc.
That said, it's a nice reading taking in account that the MC's power being OP, is not the top. The cast is large, and their traits make them feel natural.
More than that, I'd recommend you to read the manga first.
I'm thinking of reading Tate no Yuusha because I have read the 9 chapters of the manga.
Racoon best grill.
Are you reading vol.9 right?
I remember that, and I think it really is the best volume so far.
Iroha best grill
The translators seem like they have no plans to do volume 2 though.
>News update saying just because we do 1 volume of something doesn't mean we have any plans to do more
Yeah ok, fuck you guys.
Really wish the group doing overlord vol 2 would be less stingy about their release schedule
Reading Scarlett Wizard, pretty much the best space pirates series out there.
Mizuki Nomura x Takeoka Miho series are all pretty great
Just finished pic related
Just started reading Chaika in anticipation of S2E10
Is there a character who didn't end up totally broken at the end of volume 6?
I wish I could read this.
Gotta learn that language at some point.
