Mexico was the perfect arc to introduce new powers, Tatsuki could have trained in the meanwhile. No worse than introduciing Rukia's Bankai later.

The biggest problem being the power creep of course. By the time she could have been relevant, Aizen was walking arouns exploding people for shits and giggles.

The other perfect point being naturally the 17 months time skip. Someone gotta keep up the work.

Also, Tatsuki and Orihime did have that hilarious routine.

What is terrible is the way Orihime's powers are sort of strange in the way they work and what they come from. Not to mention, Tatsuki was there when Orihime likely was exposed to the root for her powers, and they appeared to be set up as a unit.

What's shitty about it? Orihime's problem is that she's useless. By making her "too nice to fight" Kubo basically wrote her out of sharing the morals and reasoning of the people around her, so she's nothing but a fangirl who ships herself with Ichigo. Because she doesn't have an identity of her own she doesn't match with anyone good, and she doesn't match with Uryu because he's too passive -- if he tries to reach out to her he'll miss because there's no personality for him to grab onto there, and if she reaches out to him she'll miss due to his stumbling. There's no connection.

Orihime needs someone who doesn't give a damn about her "nice" because otherwise she won't develop herself. Ulquiorra could have interest just based on horniness and curiosity, and so Orihime would have to rewrite herself to connect to other interests.
