Since 2014 is almost over, we haven't had a survey for a while and I managed to get some free time I thought I could conduct an updated demographics/favorite series/manga/fetish combined one. I believe some anon tried to do one earlier this year but failed to deliver the results. Most questions aren't mandatory so you can skip all the boring shit at the start if you only want to vote for you favorite anime, but since statistics give me an erection, and I plan to do a little correlation study at the end, it's encouraged to fill most of it.
Since some of the answers are directly typed in, if possible:
For anime titles, copy the romanization used by anidb.net, or myanimelist.net as a last resort.
For manga use mangaupdates.com.
For movies use imdb.com.
For visual novels use vndb.org.
In the case of doujin music, use vgmdb.net
If the survey is in any way succesful I'll post results in a few days.
>don't listen to music
>don't read books
>put a VN for video games
>don't watch movies that are not anime movies
Well, it's getting responses. We'll see how it goes.
>Someone else already voted for Bake
>Since some of the answers are directly typed in, if possible:
>For anime titles, copy the romanization used by anidb.net, or myanimelist.net as a last resort.
>For manga use mangaupdates.com.
>For movies use imdb.com.
Oh, woops. Automation is going to be a bitch, anyways. /4cc/ just gave up and used autosort.
I don't like the implications of the question Do you act in real life like you do on /a/ (misoginy, 3DPD, etc)? There are people that come here to actually discuss shit and not just shitpost like autists believe it or not.
Here you go.
>Automation is going to be a bitch
Indeed, I'll see how I can deal with it.
>There are people that come here to actually discuss shit and not just shitpost like autists believe it or not.
Fuck me. I'll add that and a middle-ground for lurking/posting on /a/.
>started 4chan in 2006
>my face when I have to put 2012 for starting /a/
I promise I don't bring my crossboard shit with me. I understand the damage it does.
I guess there really aren't a lot of "horror anime," and even fewer (if any) if you remove adaptations of manga anyway. The only one I can think of is Yamishibai. There are more horror manga though.
It requires me to log into google, is this normal?
Find a different platform where you don't need to be logged in, otherwise your data will be inaccurate because you only have morons in there who have google accounts.
>no list of favorite male tropes
Please think of the fujos
Yes? It's interesting, sure, but nothing that would actually make me feel scared. At most it can only make me grossed out.
The thing with horror is that it only works when you're immersed enough to feel like whatever you're watching could very well come to life and scare the shit out of you. It doesn't work for 2D because any non-autist will unconsciously acknowledge that it's missing a whole dimension to be credible.
Being grossed out is a form of horror delivering.
It's not his point of how proficient the genre is, but the exclusion of it, especially for manga which has almost a cult following active authors.
Honestly, i can hold a conversation in Japanese but i can't read it without the help of any kind of tool.
I know around 800 kanji, but it's still not enogh. Talking is way easier than reading, so why is "being able to hold a conversation" higher than "reading unassisted"?
Fuck, I put Demonbane but I should have put Kira Kira. Well, I guess if Demonbane is what came to mind immediately than that's what it is. Kira Kira is fucking awesome though.
I'd say it's the most spiritual one. It makes you feel even a bit different compared to other books.
It's really, really good.
At first I didn't feel like really reading it, but I read some reviews and I remember a lot of avid readers would go as far as saying it's the best ever from Hesse, and you can really see why.
But like, really, if you want a good read, pick ANY book from Hesse, they're all good, I swear.
What would you say is your favorite video game?
What would you say is you favorite movie?
>Back to the Future Part II
What would you say is you favorite book?
Who would you say is your favorite musician/band?
>Nino and Roundtable
Jeez, I don't even listen to anything other than Japanese music besides ELO, and that's only because of the Daicon IV video.
Here you go.
I kind of fucked up the automatic graph generator by adding so many option, but I'll see what I can do.
Honestly, I can never answer "What is your favourite X" questions. There are simply so many different works out there and even my own opinion on them will change with time.
It's nearly impossible to think up a real answer unless I've already prepared it beforehand.
I know what you mean.
So many choices.
Probably people pick one of their favorite, rather than their favorite since they don't know which that is.
I assume it will provide more variety to the answers.
It's strange how fan art never has Tsukihi with short hair even though she only has long hair for 1 episode. I guess everyone just recognises that short hair looks shit on her.
/a/ hasn't played jack shit except Katawa Shoujo, F/SN and maybe Grisaia, hence why they're so overrated.
If you came here saying you've only watched 10 anime, people would tell you to fuck off. But when it comes to VNs /a/ is as bad as those shitters.
>Tsukihime is no longer baby's first VN
You also missed Saya no Uta from your list.
Here you go.
A few days, as high as it gets and no. If anyone knowledgeable enough can help me sort the data I'll appreciate it.
Prelude tries to tie foundation with the I, Robot series by pulling out a deus ex machina of "the robots did it". The actual book is pretty dull, it's basically an 'on-the-run' style adventure through pre-collapse Trantor and is 90% heavyhanded worldbuilding exposition and some not-so-subtle social commentary on government and educational institutions.
It was so radically different from the rest of the foundation books it's hard to call it part of the same series.
Not him but I don't read them either. I can't into words in that format and visualizing them is a pain.
Comics/Manga, and screenplays are fine though.
I just don't get it.I mean, I understand that VN's aren't as translated as anime, I get that.
But when you have something that is your 'favourite' then I just think that you should have experience in quite a bit of what you're talking about to be able to know for sure that, "Yeah, that's my favourite."
Looks like your response to me got some people ticked.
Still going strong.
I salute my virginal brethren.
If I were you I would have just left it blank then. In my eyes, you have no reason to think of it as your favourite, maybe you liked it sure, but you have no reason as to why you can say it's your favourite. You have nothing to compare to. It's not your favourite, it's just a VN you've read that you enjoy.
>/a/ hasn't played jack shit except
Only played 2.
VN's are time consuming and not worth it.
>To watch 18+ content, that's why I have one.
You don't need a shitty google account to do that you idiot.
See this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXZN5r8zg2w
No, you can't, because you need to be logged in.
Or do you?
Simply add a /v/ in order to watch any 18+ content.
Now stop being a faggot and never log into that shitty google account again.
I'm quite free these days, so I can help. But my experience is in quantitative data, not text responses like these.
What software do you plan to use to sort the data? Excel?
What statistic for measuring correlation? Not sure if ANOVA can be used here....
>midriffs/navels STILL not on the list of fetishes
Gimme a fucking break.
Nothing happened. Only about 1/3 of /a/ has a real waifu while the rest either don't have one or treat 'waifu' as 'hot anime babe i wanna fuck'. I'm guessing you fall into the latter group.
>Edgy fag who quotes nothing but books.
Use someone else.
But I'm just not cut out for it.
Yeah, but those are the big three at the current moment.
We can tell, anon.
No argument here.
Looks like your response to me got some people ticked.
Yeah, no kidding. I'm just telling it like it is. If I said the exact same thing about anime instead of eroge, I'd get nothing but thundering agreement.
And then of course there's this, a comment I can't believe the speaker never sees the irony within. "all vns are shit (except the ones I read) so I don't have to worry about it", it inherently contradicts itself. It's like they legitimately believe F/SN and KS are so unique no other title like it exists. It's like if I watched Naruto and wrote off everything else as otaku pandering shit and nothing compares to it. No difference, you just have double standards.
Okay, you have won this.
I just watch nothing but youtube and anime. So having a place to keep my favorites, and subscriptions is something I like.
An 8 year old youtube account is nice to see such an older account.
I don't comment, you have to agree to google+.
Plus I use google services for my traffic, weather, package updates and what not.
I don't like google either but until a company/group can come forward and do the things google does, I'm a cog in this machine of datamining.
Fuck Eric Schidmt, goverment paid and privacy's hardest boss.
>united states before "a" in an alphabetical list.
>saying you don't have a waifu when you actually have a waifu
I can understand wanting to distance yourself from the group but don't lie anon. If you fall deeply in love with a girl you have a waifu. On a poll like this who cares.
Kind of like how I distance myself from the Madoka fanbase even though it is my favorite anime.
I'm struggling with shit. So I can't call my special someone, "mai waifu" when I can't give him 100% of my heart.
The term is used for everything from western cartoons, to real life people. It's disgusting.
Same thing. The point is having a waifu isn't an indicator of muh oldfag status, you either have a character you love or you don't. Newfags taking it as a joke and then going 'why aren't you in on this joke too you normalfags!' are the only cancer around here.
>US and UK superseeding the alphabetical list
I guess the botnet is tracking me.
It actually started like that.
Initially it was just a joke based on that Azumanga scene, and the term was used for cute girls. Then people started to take it seriously, but the whole thing got hijacked by tripfags who used it as a vehicle for self-portrayal. Nowadays people have mellowed out again, some use it seriously, others don't.
It was a joke, originally. Then it became something to shitpost about, then it became ironic, then we forgot we were being ironic and it became serious while still being funny, then it became serious without being funny, then the rest of the internet picked up on it with varying degrees of irony and autism, and now it's a 24/7 circlejerk generalthread on /a/ that is apparently above moderation.
I think the problem was people actually started to find waifus over time. Like I have technically had 2 waifus. A joke waifu I had at first and then a serious waifu I developed years later. The joke waifu was only used in shitposting but now my real waifu is everywhere in my room, on all my wallpapers on the computer, on my phone, on my tablet. I mean she is everywhere and is someone I love. So it was just an evolution.
In his defense, it isn't as if we get a lot of threads about it these days, and the ones we do get tend to die pretty quickly, much like with Eve no Jikan or Dennou Coil.
I want to fuck Windows 98
God dammit, what the fuck
There's nothing wrong with having a character you're in love with and call your waifu.
There is a problem when we stop being able to have fun with the topic, laugh and share without devolving into blogging circlejerks where people get upset over everything.
I've read as much manga as I've seen anime, about 500, and played half as many galge.
Don't assume that everyone on /a/ is a pleb. Though we do need more lurk more shit for the ones that are.
That said, KS honestly wasn't that bad. There are some things about it that are really unique, and I mean, it's pretty complex for a fetish game. Hell, release night was fun as shit on /a/.
The time consumption is the whole point. They make your lonely useless life seem a little less lonely
Graph is broken for some reason.
>It's like I'm on /v/
And yes I agree when I beat the tanker chapter and found out I was playing as Raiden I was mad
VN's are the shortest games with the least effort, many of them make you do nothing but press X.>>117992818 Win 98 was best Windows OS
>The time /a/ tried to write an LN
>The time /a/ tried to write a VN
>The time /a/ tried to make a 4koma
>The time /a/ tried to make a manga
I'm just waiting for the time /a/ tries to dorm an animation studio and someone takes it seriously.
>/v/ and /vg/ at a combined 60%
Hope is gone.
>Concept (At least mid-90's)
I'm sure someone from post-eternal September days can verify when they first started hearing the concept on usenet and chatrooms.
>Birth and growth of word (2002 - 2006)
>Serious (2009-2012) Waifu Bible
>Ironic/Circlejerking (2012-Present) Shitposting
The number of countries actually fucked Google's automated graph generator. I'll have to use an alternative later.
Thanks anon, Man Bites Dog was my vote.
Most the replies aren't THAT pleb. Pretty entry level sure but not entirely KS and stuff. And honestly, I think KS isn't a bad choice for favorite anyways
As for anime, meh. Can't be helped. Most we can do is encourage elitism to make the plebs think twice about posting.
I can't blame people for shitting on KS in order to discourage discussion here considering how cancerous the fanbase became, but anyone who tries to claim that /a/ has always hated it is clearly trying too hard. At least we'll always have the release night archive thread to prove them wrong.
I got into anime though visual novels. I'm not reading them as much these days because I read a huge chunk of what I wanted to read, and I suck at multitasking seasonal shows, backlog, manga, and VNs.
Quite a bit of /sci/entists.
/v/ is the video games board on 4chan. I don't know where you discuss your video games but if you ever set foot outside of 4chan you'd realise that pretty much any other place is even worse than /v/.
So they are just tsundere about watching anime
The term waifu has been a thing in Japan and it didn't start with anime it was a slang turn for your side chick or mistress you fucked
look up a book called the Pink Samurai (1991) all this shit you think is new or only savy to the internet is wrong
>mfw I've been crossboarding for longer than you've probably been on /a/
No, go away /v/agoo
If you see a connection between the two it's because video games are mainstream and not because anime go hand in hand with it.
Less than half of the board cares about video games.
>The term waifu has been a thing in Japan and it didn't start with anime it was a slang turn for your side chick or mistress you fucked
That has nothing to do with our type of "waifu" though, which the Japanese call "yome".
