Which anime has the best "cinematography"?
>>
Gainax and the OVAs from the 90s.
>>
Hyouka.
>>
>>117962630
Stuff by Satoshi Kon and Makoto Shinkai are my favorites.
>>
>>117962630
The only correct answer is 1995 Ghost in the Shell.
>>
Eden of the East had some of the best cinematic timing I've ever seen.
>>
>>117962630
Evangelion
>>
the Patlabor movies, especially 2

>>
>>117962630
Probably 5cm/s or most Shinkai movies, depends on what your looking for though.
>>
>>117962630
The Tamako Market movie had surprisingly good cinematography
>>
ITT: people who have no idea what cinematography means
>>
>>117964082
>surprisingly
Kyoani is very competent. But fact that they mostly make moeshit is pretty misleading, yes.
>>
Dezaki is always a gem when it comes to anime cinematography. He basically invented that shit.

Good taste man

>>117964082
Agreed, Kyoani actually takes a very cinematic approach to their shows. Their use of digital effects to simulate realistic lighting is also rather unique. Tamako the show took a lot of cues from Ozu and the like, it had a ton of pillow shots and slow pans that really gave it a unique atmosphere.

I'll take indications of not lurking enough for 500 Alex.

>>117962944
Seconding this. Takemoto may never be able to top Hyouka.

Hyouka, even though that anime was boring and repetitive as fuck.

>HYOUKA: WAS DAT?
>MC: idk
>HYOUKA: IM CURIOUZ
>MC: fuck

The MC is too beta to make a move on hyouka so all you get is a shitty higschool detective anime.

Every SoL is like that. And usually because of the budget.

Come on son. I love Zeta as much as the next guy, but Gundam in general isn't known for good cinematography. Fight choreography, yes. But Victory is much better at that than just about any other Gundam series.
>>
>>117965149
Is this Hyouka? It looks nothing like Ozu.

Okay then, we'll come to a compromise, how about Char's Counterattack instead of Zeta? It had some good scenes despite the mess of a story.
>>
>>117965575
Not really. Lucky star didn't have that shit. Hidasketch didn't either

Ozu never uses such rapid cuts, but there are scenes in Hyouka that resemble Ozu.

Though you could say that for a lot of japanese cinema.

>>117966354
>gundam
>fight choreography
Maybe 0083 or something, but remember that for most of First and Zeta it was basically

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nxjtO8m9Pk
Excuse the dub. Now, that wasn't particularly bad for the time, but not exactly impressive either.

>>117966606
Honestly, I think Tomino's pretty neat as a director, all things considered. He's not terribly flashy but his pacing is fine and his fight scenes have impeccable editing.

I think he really shines when he has great key animators to work with. CCA, King Gainer, even G-Reco.

>>117965843
>Shaft
>gimmick
Just because they do things in a strange way doesn't mean it's one gimmicky style. There's a big difference between Nakamura Shaft and Shinbou shaft and Oonuma shaft and Oishi shaft.
